Acts 2:42-43 shows the Spirit forming a sacred space where believers are united around the Word, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. This unity is God’s work, not human effort. Through His living presence, God gathers diverse people into one deeply connected community.
First Reading: Acts 2:42-43
Gospel Reading: John 17:20-23

Last week, an email was sent to Timothy members inviting you to participate in our ““How Is God Stretching You?” Assessment as part of our Growing Pains: When God Stretches His Church sermon series.
If you have not had a chance to complete the assessment yet, we encourage you to do so prayerfully and thoughtfully. This tool is designed to help you discover the unique gifts God has given you and explore ways He may be calling you to grow in faith, service, and relationships.
The assessment can be completed online through the link provided in the email. If you prefer a paper version, copies are available at church. Once completed, please return paper assessments to the Administrative Church Office.
Your responses will be reviewed confidentially by the GIVE Commission, who will help identify areas of strength, spiritual gifts, and opportunities for service that align with how God may be leading you.
Thank you for taking the time to participate. We look forward to seeing how God is working through the people of Timothy to serve His church and community.

Christine Smith is the new Administrative Assistant at Timothy Lutheran Church and School. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, in Wyandotte County, and attended Avila College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After a dedicated 45-year career in nursing, Christine retired in May 2022.
A devoted mother, Christine raised four sons as a single parent and is now blessed with five grandchildren. She enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and band performances.
Christine is a longtime fan of John Wayne movies and has built an impressive collection over the years. Family and friends know of her passion and often gift her John Wayne memorabilia, which is proudly displayed throughout her home. In her spare time, she also enjoys sewing handmade items for family and friends and relaxing with a good mystery novel.
Her travels often take her to San Diego to visit her oldest son, Brian, and to Florida to spend time with her sister, Cathy. One particularly memorable trip included weathering Hurricane Ian together.
Following her retirement, Christine began volunteering at Timothy Lutheran Church and School's front desk, where she found joy in helping others and sharing her faith. She also volunteers twice each month with Care Beyond the Boulevard’s medical bus, providing healthcare services to individuals experiencing homelessness. In addition, Christine will continue leading Pairs and Spares, helping coordinate and support the ministry’s monthly gatherings.
Christine brings a servant’s heart, a wealth of experience, and a deep love for people to her new role at Timothy. The congregation is blessed to welcome her as Administrative Assistant and looks forward to the many ways she will continue to serve the church community—including her ongoing involvement with Pairs and Spares. ❤️

In Matthew 16, Jesus declares that His Church is built not on human strength or structures but on the unshakable confession that He is the Christ. Buildings may expand, styles may shift, and seasons may change, but the Church endures because Christ Himself is its foundation and builder. As we look to the future, our confidence isn’t in steel or drywall—it’s in the Savior who promises that even the gates of hell cannot prevail against His Church.
As we step into the midsummer groove, we will be beginning a sermon series called “Shared Spaces, Shared Lives.” In this series we will begin to explore how God forms and sustains His people through life lived together in Christ. Walking through the early chapters of Acts, we see the Spirit creating sacred spaces of unity through Word and prayer, shaping hearts through radical generosity, and sanctifying everyday relationships. Along the way, Christ brings healing and restoration, drawing broken lives back into community. Ultimately, the Spirit empowers believers to share not only space, but life itself—boldly witnessing to Christ together in the world.

Men, you are invited to join us for a weekly Breakfast Bible Study as we gather around God’s Word, good conversation, and encouragement. Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” Life can pull men in many directions, but God never intended us to walk alone. Through Scripture, prayer, and brotherhood, we are strengthened for our homes, work, church, and community. Come enjoy breakfast, build friendships, and grow in faith with other men seeking to follow Christ faithfully. Join us each week and be sharpened by God’s Word. As we prepare for the next Bible study series, Pastor Rod will lead our study this Tuesday on the topic "Iron Sharpens Iron: Why Men Need Weekly Bible Study." Hope to see you on Tuesday!

In Joshua 3, God calls His people to step into the Jordan before the waters part—teaching us that faith often moves ahead of understanding. When a church faces a big step, the promise isn’t that we’ll see the plan clearly, but that God goes before us. The river didn’t part until their feet got wet, and God still meets His people in the same way today.
As we step into the midsummer groove, we will be beginning a sermon series called “Shared Spaces, Shared Lives.” In this series we will begin to explore how God forms and sustains His people through life lived together in Christ. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our VBS Celebration Sunday! It was truly a wonderful day filled with joy, worship, and community.
Our children brought smiles to every face as they sang during both services, sharing the songs they learned throughout Vacation Bible School. Their enthusiasm and courage were a beautiful reflection of all they experienced during the week, and we are so proud of each one of them.
After the services, families gathered outside to continue the celebration. Delicious options from the food trucks made lunchtime easy and fun, giving everyone a chance to relax and connect. The laughter continued as children and adults alike enjoyed yard games, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere for all.
Events like this are made special because of each of you—those who participated, volunteered, supported, and showed up to encourage our kids. Thank you for being part of a community that invests in the next generation and together we can transform lives through Christ.
Please note that there will be no FaithRoots this Sunday, July 5th due to the holiday. This break will allow our teachers some well-deserved time to rest and recharge.
Children will remain in the worship service with their families instead of being dismissed to FaithRoots.
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to resuming our regular schedule the following week!

For many years, Mary Thompson faithfully collected and delivered aluminum pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House, helping support families with children receiving medical care. We are grateful for her dedication to this ministry.
Mary is no longer able to transport the tabs, and we are looking for a volunteer who would be willing to take over dropping off the collected pop tabs on an occasional basis.
If you would be interested in helping with this simple but meaningful service, please contact the church office, 816-228-5300. Thank you for considering how you can continue this tradition of caring for families in need.

What does it mean to be truly “rooted in Christ”? After a week at Rainforest Falls learning who God is, we’ll ask whether being rooted is something we achieve--or something God has already done for us, holding us steady through every storm.
Traveling this summer? You can still stay connected and support Timothy’s mission wherever you go. With recurring giving, it takes less than a minute to set up a secure, automatic gift—making generosity simple and consistent, even when your routine changes.
The Faith, Family, Fatherhood bible study was able to get together for a great day at the K for tailgating and baseball watching fun. In total over 50 people were able to attend the event, including at least 20 kids and parents that ran the bases after the Royals got a W on the day. Great time was had by all.
Timothy Lutheran Church was filled with excitement and joy this past week as children gathered to explore the Nature of God through a vibrant, rainforest-themed Vacation Bible School.
Throughout the week, participants learned meaningful truths about God’s character. They discovered that God knows everything, that He created each of us with love and purpose, and that He is our refuge in times of trouble. Most importantly, the children were reminded that God’s love and care are constant and never-ending.
The week’s lessons, music, and activities came together to create a memorable experience that strengthened faith and built lasting connections. The energy and enthusiasm of the children were matched only by the dedication of the staff and volunteers who made the week possible.
Families are warmly invited to continue the celebration this Sunday, June 28, for Celebration Sunday. This special day offers an opportunity for the congregation to come together in worship and for the children to share what they have learned. They will be singing the VBS headlining song, “God Is,” at the beginning of the 9:00 a.m. service and again just before the 10:30 a.m. service.
Following the second performance, all children, along with their families and friends, are invited to gather in the west parking lot from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a time of fellowship and fun. The celebration will include games, food trucks, and activities for all ages.
Timothy Children’s Ministry extends heartfelt thanks to the families who entrusted their children to this program. It has been a privilege to walk alongside them this week, and the team looks forward to continuing to partner with families in nurturing each child’s faith and understanding of God’s love.
In Him, Timothy Children’s Ministry Staff & Volunteers
This year’s Vacation Bible School at Timothy Lutheran Church was a wonderful success, made possible by our dedicated volunteers.
From teaching and leading activities to organizing, decorating, and welcoming families, each volunteer played an important role in creating a meaningful and faith-filled experience for our children. Their time, energy, and love for Christ helped bring each lesson to life and made a lasting impact.
We are truly grateful for their service and the care they showed to every child. Thank you for sharing God’s love in such a powerful way.
With sincere appreciation, Timothy Lutheran Church and School Staff

God has already placed every gift our church needs right here within the body of Christ. In Ephesians 4, we see that pastors equip the saints—and the saints carry out the ministry—so the whole church grows in strength and unity. This isn’t a plea for more volunteers; it’s a call to unleash the Spirit‑given gifts already among us.

A big thank you for the Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study who partnered with Buddy Bag Project to stuff 300 bags to be shared with unhoused men in Kansas City.
As we hopped into the cars at 6:00 a.m. on June 1, I told our 17-member mission team, “You never know what will happen on a mission trip.” With that, we set out to follow the Lord’s call. It was an incredible week in so many ways. We grew closer as a group, worked long days—sometimes up to 12 hours—enjoyed amazing food, prayed together, and spent time in God’s Word. We built relationships across language barriers and were mutually blessed by the community we served. Along the way, we sang, laughed, spotted a tarantula, learned new skills, and helped build a home for a deeply grateful family. Through it all, we experienced God’s transformational work as He stretched and strengthened us in many ways. Thank you for your support—for sending us, funding so much of this trip, and covering us in prayer. We didn’t go simply as 17 individuals; we went as Timothy Lutheran Church and School. I encourage you to come ask us about our experiences—we would love to share stories and help you see all that God has done. Once again, thank you for your financial support and faithful prayers. We had a fantastic week serving the Ojeda family in Acuña, Mexico.

In Mark 2, a crowded house becomes a barrier—until four friends decide that nothing will keep them from bringing someone to Jesus. Their bold creativity shows that when space limits the Gospel, God’s people innovate for the sake of others. As the church today, we remember that buildings aren’t monuments but tools, and when those tools get in the way of the mission, we faithfully reshape them to open the way to Christ.

We are excited to share that Pierre has recently moved into Timothy’s sponsored Hillcrest apartment. His arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter, and we are grateful to be part of his journey.
Pierre is a refugee from Zambia who brings a rich cultural background and a gift for languages—he speaks English, Swahili, and is fluent in seven other languages. During Hillcrest’s interview, Pierre shared he is not familiar with holidays, reminding us of the diverse experience and backgrounds of the residents we serve. This offers us a unique opportunity to extend hospitality and build connections in new ways.
Hillcrest shared that they wished we could have seen the look of gratitude on his face when he first saw the apartment. It was a powerful reminder of the impact this ministry has—our support provides more than housing; it offers hope and a sense of belonging.
Pierre currently works full-time at Wah Gwan and is eager to continue to work to build a stable future. While he does have a vehicle, it is currently under repair, and Hillcrest is working alongside Della Lamb to help him find a job closer to the campus.
Pierre also has a 9-year-old son, Christian, who is not yet in the United States. A major goal for Pierre is to create a strong foundation so that one day Christian can come to the states.
We’re also excited to share that Pierre’s birthday is on June 24, a wonderful chance to help him feel welcome. Cards can be sent to Pierre Yemba, 507C SW Mission Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063
Please continue to keep Pierre and his son in your prayers in the weeks ahead.

Volunteer exhaustion is not a sign of failure but a sign that the mission needs to be shared. We encounter that reality today in our text as we see Moses wearing down. It took Jethro to show him a better structure. At the end of the day ministry isn’t just the pastor’s job; the body is called to serve together.

In Luke 5, the disciples experience nets so full they can hardly haul them in—and Psalm 65 reminds us that such abundance is always God’s doing. When a church is full, the nursery is buzzing, or the parking lot is overflowing, it isn’t something we’ve achieved; it’s something God has entrusted to us through His Word and Sacraments. Growth is His gift, not our accomplishment. Crowdedness isn’t a crisis—it’s a calling to steward the people God brings.
First Reading: Psalm 65:9-13
Gospel Reading: Luke 5:1-11
Growing Pains: When God Stretches His Church explores how seasons of growth—though sometimes uncomfortable—are signs of God’s gracious activity among His people. From overflowing boats and crowded rooms to tired leaders, expanding needs, and uncertain next steps, Scripture shows again and again that growth is never our achievement but God’s gift and invitation. In this series, we’ll discover how abundance calls us to stewardship, how shared ministry strengthens the body, how creative faith opens space for others, and how God equips His people with every gift needed for the mission. Ultimately, we’ll be reminded that the Church moves forward not by our strength or strategy, but by confidence in Christ, our unshakable foundation, who leads us into the future one faithful step at a time.

If you’ve been on campus recently, you may have noticed a welcome improvement at Timothy Lutheran Church and School—the parking lot was freshly resealed on Memorial Day! This update not only enhances the appearance of our campus but also helps preserve the surface for years to come, ensuring a safer and smoother experience for everyone who visits.
Projects like this don’t happen on their own. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Festival Committee for their generous donation toward the resealing. Your commitment to support Timothy’s facilities makes a meaningful difference and helps keep our campus in great condition.

Timothy's Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) will begin collecting disposable diapers of all sizes and donate them to Happy Bottoms in an effort of helping them keep their shelves stocked. This organization, based in Kansas City, partners with social service agencies and hospitals to assure babies and toddlers from low-income families have access to clean diapers for their child's health care and comfort. The collection will run Mother's Day through Father's Day and the congregation is welcome to make a contribution to help these little ones. The diapers may be left in the container available in the lobby.

Every baptism is a gift—God welcoming a child into His family. One way our congregation celebrates that gift is by giving a Faith Chest: a simple wooden chest that can be used as an altar and to hold a Bible, devotional books, a baptism candle, pictures, and keepsakes that help a child remember, “I am baptized into Christ.”
These chests are made with care by members of our church family, and we would love to invite more hands and hearts to help build them. If you enjoy woodworking, there is a place for you in this project.
Build: cut, assemble and sand chests.
Supply support: donate wood, or gift cards (a Thrivent gift card can be used) to offset costs.
Pray: lift each baptized child and family as the chest is made and gifted.
If you’d like to help build (or support) a Faith Chest, please reach out to the church office at 816-228-5300—we’ll connect you with the materials you’ll need. You don’t have to be an expert, just be willing to help.
Thank you for helping us provide these beautiful baptismal gifts for our littlest members.
During the month of May, our donations will be collected in support of Jesus El Buen Lutheran Church, a ministry making a meaningful impact in its community. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together in service and generosity as we help meet the needs of others.
A donation cart will be available in the church lobby with a list of current needs for Jesus El Buen Lutheran Church. Please take a moment to stop by, review the list, and consider how you might help. Every contribution—large or small—makes a difference.
Thank you for your continued faithfulness and willingness to serve. Your generosity truly reflects Christ’s love in action.

The church becomes most powerful when forgiven people forgive one another, starting the whole process of Forgiveness for people not just inside the church but also outside the church.
A forgiving church is a living testimony of the resurrection.

Join Lynn Meyer for a meaningful 7-week journey into understanding and practicing forgiveness.
Ladies, if we live near people or work with people, we need to be prepared to forgive. And as long as we have air in our lungs, we will also need to be forgiven. Forgiveness is the great leveler—we all want it, but we don’t always want to extend it. Girlfriends, let’s learn to do this well together.
Due to high interest, we’ve added an additional Thursday morning session from 9:00–11:00 AM beginning May 21. Please note that the Thursday evening session (6:00–8:00 PM) is already full.
We will be using Lysa Terkeurst’s workbook and book, Forgiving What You Can’t Forget.

Please join us on TONIGHT as Timothy Lutheran School celebrates two special milestones—Preschool Graduation and 8th Grade Graduation.
The Preschool Graduation ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m., honoring our youngest learners as they take this exciting first step in their educational journey. A reception will follow the ceremony.
Later that evening, we will celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating 8th grade class during their ceremony at 7:00 p.m., with a reception to follow as well.
Families, friends, and members of the Timothy congregation are warmly invited to attend both celebrations as we give thanks for our students, teachers, and the many blessings God has provided throughout the school year. We look forward to celebrating together!
Join us as we celebrate and honor Beckie Hatcher and her many years of faithful service, love, and dedication to our students and school community. Mrs. Hatcher’s passion for music, joyful spirit, and lasting impact on generations of students has been such a blessing to Timothy Lutheran School, and we are so grateful for the way she has shared her gifts with so many children over the years.
We will be celebrating her this Sunday following the 10:30 AM service with cake and fellowship.
We would also love for families to join us for an additional celebration on Monday, May 18th from 5:00–7:00 PM at Station 7. Bring the kids out for a fun, family-friendly evening of music, laughs, kids’ karaoke, and celebrating the incredible impact Mrs. Hatcher has made through her love of teaching and music.

Please note that the church parking lot will be resealed on Monday, May 25th as part of our ongoing maintenance efforts. To prepare for this work, everyone must remove their vehicles from the parking lot immediately after church services on Sunday, May 24th.
Clearing the lot on Sunday will allow the crew to begin work promptly and ensure the resealing process goes smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to maintain our facilities for the safety and comfort of all who attend Timothy.
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the church office, 816-228-5300.
As your calendars flip to May and the summer months, the Women of Hope leadership team invites Timothy's ladies to mark your calendars for a fun fellowship event again this year! The Powell Gardens Colonial Farms Music in the Gardens free concert series is back on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm in the Courtyard. Join your sisters in Christ (and bring friends!) on June 17.
Take in the live music in a relaxed, open‑air setting while enjoying seasonal snacks and drinks available for purchase from a food truck on site.. The website (colonialfarmskc.org) indicates "seating is first-come, first-served, so come early and stay awhile" rather than signing up for the free tickets. Please RSVP by clicking on the link below by June 14 to give the team an idea of how many to expect. Contact Diane Mayfield (dianelmayfield@comcast.com) with questions. See you there!
