Do You Have a Story to Share?

Acts 2:42-43 shows the Spirit forming a sacred space where believers are united around the Word, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. This unity is God’s work, not human effort. Through His living presence, God gathers diverse people into one deeply connected community.

Last week, an email was sent to Timothy members inviting you to participate in our       ““How Is God Stretching You?” Assessment as part of our Growing Pains: When God Stretches His Church sermon series.

If you have not had a chance to complete the assessment yet, we encourage you to do so prayerfully and thoughtfully. This tool is designed to help you discover the unique gifts God has given you and explore ways He may be calling you to grow in faith, service, and relationships.

The assessment can be completed online through the link provided in the email. If you prefer a paper version, copies are available at church. Once completed, please return paper assessments to the Administrative Church Office.

Your responses will be reviewed confidentially by the GIVE Commission, who will help identify areas of strength, spiritual gifts, and opportunities for service that align with how God may be leading you.

Christine Smith is the new Administrative Assistant at Timothy Lutheran Church and School. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, in Wyandotte County, and attended Avila College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After a dedicated 45-year career in nursing, Christine retired in May 2022.

A devoted mother, Christine raised four sons as a single parent and is now blessed with five grandchildren. She enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and band performances.

Christine is a longtime fan of John Wayne movies and has built an impressive collection over the years. Family and friends know of her passion and often gift her John Wayne memorabilia, which is proudly displayed throughout her home. In her spare time, she also enjoys sewing handmade items for family and friends and relaxing with a good mystery novel.

Her travels often take her to San Diego to visit her oldest son, Brian, and to Florida to spend time with her sister, Cathy. One particularly memorable trip included weathering Hurricane Ian together.

Following her retirement, Christine began volunteering at Timothy Lutheran Church and School's front desk, where she found joy in helping others and sharing her faith. She also volunteers twice each month with Care Beyond the Boulevard’s medical bus, providing healthcare services to individuals experiencing homelessness. In addition, Christine will continue leading Pairs and Spares, helping coordinate and support the ministry’s monthly gatherings.

Christine brings a servant’s heart, a wealth of experience, and a deep love for people to her new role at Timothy. The congregation is blessed to welcome her as Administrative Assistant and looks forward to the many ways she will continue to serve the church community—including her ongoing involvement with Pairs and Spares. ❤️

Attention men! Join us for a new Tuesday morning Bible study starting on Tuesday, July 21, at 6:30 AM. We will explore the second half of the book of Acts and witness how the Holy Spirit transformed fearful disciples into bold witnesses for Christ. This study challenges us to reflect on what it means to be the church today—called, empowered, and sent to share the mighty acts of God. Begin your Tuesday grounded in God's Word and fellowship.

Timothy’s Pairs & Spares ministry invites adults ages 55 and older to connect, laugh, and enjoy meaningful fellowship together. Whether you’re single or part of a couple, you’ll find a warm and welcoming group eager to build friendships and share life’s journey.

Our Children's Ministry is expanding, and we are looking for volunteers to help teach our young people! We are looking for volunteers to serve pk-1, 2-3, or 4-5. If you feel called to work with youth, or if you have further questions, please reach out to Jessica Yanez at jessicay@timothylutheran.com, or stop by the table in the lobby between services in the upcoming weeks! We will have a volunteer meeting for all new and returning volunteers on August 9^th to catch everyone up to speed on the exciting changes that will be happening this fall in Faith Roots. 

All incoming 4th and 5th graders are invited to join us for an end of summer water games event on Sunday August 2nd, from 2p-4p. 

We will welcome our new 4th graders to the group, then partake in devotions, snack and water games.

Please bring your own towel, and a change of clothes, if you wish.

Timothy Lutheran Church and School is collecting school supplies for Blue Springs Community Services League through August 6. Help local students start the school year prepared by donating needed school supplies.

Please refer to the posted supply list for requested items and place your donations in the collection bucket located in the church lobby.

Thank you for supporting children and families in our community through your generosity!

Most Needed items: sandwich bread, chips, fruit snacks, ramen noodles, juice, bottled water, toilet paper, paper towels, face wash, shampoo, conditioner and sunscreen.

Timothy Lutheran Church and School is partnering with Hillcrest Transitional Housing this July to support individuals and families on their journey to independence. Donations of needed household and personal care items will be collected throughout the month.

Visit the collection cart at church to view the requested items and contribute as you are able. Every donation helps meet everyday needs and shares Christ’s love with our neighbors.

Do You Have a Story to Share?

In Joshua 3, God calls His people to step into the Jordan before the waters part—teaching us that faith often moves ahead of understanding. When a church faces a big step, the promise isn’t that we’ll see the plan clearly, but that God goes before us. The river didn’t part until their feet got wet, and God still meets His people in the same way today. 

First Reading: Joshua 3:1-17

Gospel Reading: Matthew 14:22-33

As we step into the midsummer groove, we will be beginning a sermon series called “Shared Spaces, Shared Lives.” In this series we will begin to explore how God forms and sustains His people through life lived together in Christ. Walking through the early chapters of Acts, we see the Spirit creating sacred spaces of unity through Word and prayer, shaping hearts through radical generosity, and sanctifying everyday relationships. Along the way, Christ brings healing and restoration, drawing broken lives back into community. Ultimately, the Spirit empowers believers to share not only space, but life itself—boldly witnessing to Christ together in the world.

Please join us for a Special Voters’ Meeting at Timothy Lutheran Church and School as we call  Katelin Austin to serve as our new 2nd Grade Teacher.  We encourage all voting members to attend. (Quorum of 40 needed). We look forward to your participation in this special occasion.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our VBS Celebration Sunday! It was truly a wonderful day filled with joy, worship, and community.

Our children brought smiles to every face as they sang during both services, sharing the songs they learned throughout Vacation Bible School. Their enthusiasm and courage were a beautiful reflection of all they experienced during the week, and we are so proud of each one of them.

After the services, families gathered outside to continue the celebration. Delicious options from the food trucks made lunchtime easy and fun, giving everyone a chance to relax and connect. The laughter continued as children and adults alike enjoyed yard games, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere for all.

Events like this are made special because of each of you—those who participated, volunteered, supported, and showed up to encourage our kids. Thank you for being part of a community that invests in the next generation and together we can transform lives through Christ.

Please note that there will be no FaithRoots this Sunday, July 5th due to the holiday. This break will allow our teachers some well-deserved time to rest and recharge.

Children will remain in the worship service with their families instead of being dismissed to FaithRoots.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to resuming our regular schedule the following week!

Ladies Book Club will be taking a break for the summer months, with no meetings scheduled in June, July, or August. We look forward to gathering again in September as we kick off a new season of reading and discussion.

Timothy Lutheran High School youth enjoyed a fun outing together at a Royals game this June! It was a great time of fellowship, laughter, and cheering on the home team. Take a look at some highlights from their time together! ⚾

Join us for a night of baseball August 6th 6:40pm as we cheer on the Royals. RSVP with Pastor Ryan by July 12th to secure a spot! We will need some adult drivers but I will balance that with how many youth we have going. If interested in driving let me know how many seats you have.

For many years, Mary Thompson faithfully collected and delivered aluminum pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House, helping support families with children receiving medical care. We are grateful for her dedication to this ministry.

Mary is no longer able to transport the tabs, and we are looking for a volunteer who would be willing to take over dropping off the collected pop tabs on an occasional basis.

If you would be interested in helping with this simple but meaningful service, please contact the church office, 816-228-5300. Thank you for considering how you can continue this tradition of caring for families in need.

Timothy Lutheran Church and School is partnering with Hillcrest Transitional Housing this July to support individuals and families working toward stability and self-sufficiency. Throughout the month, we will be collecting much-needed items to help meet everyday needs for those in the Hillcrest program.

Hillcrest Transitional Housing provides a pathway for families and individuals to transition from homelessness to independence, offering housing, financial education, and life-skills support. By contributing to this collection, our Timothy community can play a meaningful role in encouraging and uplifting our neighbors during their journey.

A designated collection cart will be available at church throughout July. We invite you to stop by, take a look at the list of requested items, and bring donations as you are able. Every item given—big or small—makes a difference and reflects Christ’s love in action.
