We know what is supposed to happen when something is planted. It is supposed to GROW. And when it doesn’t, we think something must be wrong. God has planted within each of us the seed of faith. And what should we expect that faith to do? GROW! But how does that faith grown, and what is the purpose of the growth? Those are the things we will explore this week, so join us.
The church in Scriptures is described as the “bride of Christ.” As we gather as Timothy Lutheran Church and School, the question is, do we look like Christ’s bride? And the answer is probably “not always.” So, how does Timothy Lutheran Ministries pursue the identity God has given to us? Well, throughout our history here in Blue Springs, we have sought to stay grounded in that identity by rallying around a vision. That vision is to “transform lives through Christ.” Through August 31, we are going to come back to that vision grounded in biblical truths and refresh our hearts and minds to the calling and commitment we must walk as Christ's bride, right where He put us.

We GATHER together just about everywhere we go. Sports games, homes, community pools, school, work, parks, and more. The church gathers too but there’s something distinctly different about the Gathering of the church. And that is, Jesus is at the center of it all. That doesn’t seem all that different, and yet it changes everything. Join us as we explore our call as the church to GATHER in Christ.

Sixteen youth and four adults returned home after traveling to New Orleans from July 17-23 to join 20,000+ other youth from around the country and the globe at the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Youth Gathering which occurs every 3 years. Their trip started out with 1.5 days of exploring New Orleans, team building, and devotions covering spiritual warfare. The Gathering then officially started Saturday night. Each night from Saturday through Tuesday, everyone attending, piled into the Superdome and we worshiped, encountered skits which deepened our understanding of the Gather theme “Endure,” heard from powerful speakers like Michael Zeigler (Lutheran Hour Speaker), Bethany Hamilton (Soul Surfer), Flame (Lutheran theologian and rapper - yes you read that correctly), and recapped each day. Then during the morning Sunday - Tuesday we attended Bible study with 5,000 others as we dove into our theme text from Hebrews 12:1 - 3 with two pastors. The afternoons were spent attending speaker sessions from over 115 different topics and over 50 different speakers.
Our kids attended talks on knowing their worth, the impact of mass media, what it means to be Lutheran, honoring God through dating, following Jesus on a wild ride, and so much more. During the afternoons we also had opportunities to connect with various Lutheran colleges, districts, organizations, donate blood, and even get a little gaga ball in to burn off some energy. Our youth also had the privilege on Monday to do a servant event at a local school in the city of New Orleans. We spread mulch, pulled weeds, cleaned walls, and readied the school for a new year leaving a blessing for the community that welcomed us for this Gathering. behind the scenes we walked no less than 20,000 steps a day, drank countless jugs of water, enjoyed some tastes of New Orleans like jambalaya, fried alligator, and beinets. We will be showing a video at worship on Sunday August 3rd to add some visuals to these words so please join us for worship. For now through we want to say a huge THANK YOU to all who supported us through financial support, prayer, and encouragement. Lives have been transformed through Christ and we are excited for the ways God will continue to grow those seeds.
The Call Committee was busy with weekly zoom interviews with Senior Pastor candidates on Tuesday evening in July. Each of these interviews has been insightful and fruitful as we seek to discern God’s Will in finding the man He has already chosen as Timothy’s next Senior Pastor.
Second interviews with a select group of the candidates will be scheduled for August. While it has been a very busy summer at Timothy and for the all Committee’s and candidates’ personal schedules, we remain diligent throughout the process and are pleased with progress so far. A goal is to resent a slate of candidates for congregational review and vote in September.
Please continue to keep the Divine Call process, Timothy’s Call Committee, Timothy church, and the senior pastor candidates and their churches in your prayers. May God’s Will be done.
We need your helping hands this Saturday, August 9th at 8:00 AM for a special Mulch Party at Timothy! As we prepare for the upcoming school year, it’s time to freshen up the landscaping around our church and school. And we’d love for you to join us in making our grounds look beautiful!

It all starts with the vision. And what vision has God put on the hearts of those who have faithfully led and shepherded Timothy Lutheran Ministries over the years, “Transforming Lives Through Christ.” We begin our series recalling and reclaiming this vision. But first, we need to understand what it means and how it happens. Join us!

This past Saturday, several dedicated members of our church family gathered to care for and improve the grounds of Timothy Lutheran. We extend our sincere gratitude to Tary Krahenbuhl, Jeff Kappelman, Louie Wilbers, Bob and Sandy Logan for their hard work and servant hearts during the cleanup effort.
The team worked diligently to clear tall weeds from both corners of the property and trimmed back overgrowth along the side of the road. Their efforts have made the property cleaner, safer, and more welcoming to all who visit.
It’s moments like these that reflect the love and unity within our church family—individuals coming together in service to glorify God through their actions.
We are reminded of the encouragement found in Scripture:
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
Thank you again to Tary, Jeff, Louie, Bob, and Sandy. Your work is appreciated more than words can express, and your example inspires us all to serve with joyful hearts.

Have you ever been overwhelmed, burdened, confused, lonely, or isolated? Of course you have. That’s part of our broken world. As Christians, what are we supposed to do about that? Of course, we know we should turn to Jesus. And Jesus certainly meets us. But He does more than that, He also provides relationships to us. And that is one of the most amazing gifts we have in Christ. So, let’s gather today and give thanks for the relationships God has given.

Would like volunteers to bring weed eaters, chainsaws, boots, and gloves, which are strongly recommended. Volunteers can text Louie for questions or details.

On Thursday, June 19th, the Call Committee met to review and discuss our analysis and consideration for the 13 candidates we selected from the original list sent to us by the Missouri district office. We had a very long discussion about each member’s review process and the extensive research that we conducted for each of the 13 pastors. The teamwork, energy, and cohesiveness amongst all the members of our committee are amazing and very exciting to be a part of, truly a blessing to be thankful for. We narrowed down our list of pastor candidates to 9 pastors that we felt very strongly about conducting a Zoom interview to learn more about them and to help us determine if they were the right match to be our next Senior Pastor. We scheduled four Tuesdays in July to conduct Zoom interviews with each of the Pastors. We have contacted each of the pastors and provided them with our time and date schedule for them to select what works best for them. We have finalized a good number of the scheduled interviews as of now, but we are waiting for a few more to fill in the remaining date and time slots.
The Call Committee really appreciates all the support, kind words, and prayers that we have been receiving from the Timothy congregation. Please continue to pray for the Call Committee, the pastor candidates and their congregations, Pastor Ryan and Pastor Rod, and for Timothy Lutheran Church as we follow God’s will and direction in this Divine Call process.
Dads, you’re invited to the next Faith, Family, and Fatherhood gathering on Friday, July 11, from 7–9 PM. This group brings together fathers navigating the same season of life—raising children, leading their homes, and walking in faith.
Our time together offers encouragement, real conversation, and Christ-centered support for the highs and lows of fatherhood. Whether you're a new dad or have years of experience, this is a space to grow in community and purpose.
Guided by Proverbs 22:6 — “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it” — our mission is clear: to raise the next generation with intentionality, integrity, and a strong foundation in Christ.
Would like volunteers to bring weed eaters, chainsaws, boots, and gloves, which are strongly recommended. Volunteers can text Louie for questions or details.
Mark your calendars to volunteer a couple of hours on July 19th, 8 am-noon
Men, women, and teens will all be helpful and much appreciated. It is recommended to bring/wear gloves.

Please take time to read the letter from Pastor Ryan regarding the Missouri District Convention. Thank you to Gary Flandermeyer for attending with him. Also, thank you to George Zimmerschid for being a backup if Gary could not attend.

It is incredibly easy to lose sight of the truth in our world. That’s true whether we are young kids or seasoned adults. Over this past week, our VBS invited both leaders and youth to gather around in worship, learning, games, experiments, and crafts, all to remind us that Jesus is our True North. And we can trust His direction and guidance in our lives. Let’s celebrate our joy-filled VBS week by looking to our True North.

We are excited to introduce Jessica Yanez as Timothy’s new Children's and Middle School Ministry Coordinator!
Jessica is a lifelong Lutheran originally from Nebraska. After college, she and her family moved to Missouri from Texas and have called the Kansas City area home for the past eight years. During that time, Jessica worked in libraries throughout the metro before transitioning to being a full-time stay-at-home mom after the birth of her third child.
Jessica brings a love for faith, family, and learning to her new role at Timothy. When she’s not busy with her children, she enjoys gardening, crocheting, and spending quality time with her family.
As she begins this new chapter in ministry, we encourage you to give her a warm Timothy welcome! Be sure to say hello and introduce yourself when you see her around campus as she gets to know our church family. We’re thrilled to have her on board and can’t wait to see how God will work through her to bless our children and middle school students.

Next week is True North VBS, don’t miss out on Timothy Lutheran Church’s VBS this year. We will explore the great majesty of the northern lights as we are reminded that in a world that may lead us astray, Jesus is always our trusted, faithful friend to guide us to truth. It’ll be quite the adventure!
📍 Location: Timothy Lutheran Church 🗓️ Dates: June 23–27
Bonus Activities:
Friday, June 27th, VBS wrap-up family movie night
Sunday, June 29th, VBS celebration Sunday!
Let’s make this a week of faith, fun, and memories that last a lifetime!
This year, collections will be taken during the week of VBS for LUMA. Here is the list of their needs: canned fruits, soups, canned meats, sweet cereal, canned veggies, body bar soap, cooking oil, cleaning products, crackers, dish soap, frozen meats, feminine hygiene products, meal (boxed & canned), laundry soap, pasta sauce, paper towels, peanut butter and toilet paper.
This year, all money collected will go to support LASE Specialized Education (a Lutheran School advocate, partner, and resource). LASE (formerly known as Lutheran Association for Special Education) began with the dream and vision of parents who longed for their children with disabilities to be in a Christian education setting.
Middle schoolers’ VBS week is coming up. We hope you’ve signed up to serve, but we also want you to know, we haven’t forgotten you. During VBS week, we will be hosting Middle School SwimTalks on Tuesday, June 24th (Norm & Lois Kuecker’s home) and Thursday, June 26th (Rod and Miriam Lindemann’s home) evenings from 5:30-7 pm. Come swim, eat, and dive into God’s Word with us. Bring a snack or dessert to share and some friends. Contact Pastor Ryan for addresses and more information.

The Call Committee met last night to discuss pastor profile information and self-evaluations for 13 new candidates, as submitted by the MO District Office, to serve Timothy as its next Senior Pastor. As the process continues, please keep the Call Committee, Timothy church, and the candidates’ churches in your prayers as we seek God’s will in the divine call process.
The Missouri District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod holds a convention every three years. This year’s convention will be held in Columbia, MO, from June 22-24. Pastor Ryan will serve as Timothy’s pastoral delegate, and Gary Flandermeyer will represent Timothy as its delegate, as he did in both 2019 and 2022 as well. If Gary is unable to attend for some reason, George Zimmerschied is Timothy’s lay alternate delegate. We praise God for their willingness to serve in this important capacity! Thank you!
Donna Stephens extends her heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support she has received as she begins her chemotherapy journey. Your kind words and thoughtful gestures have meant so much to her during this time.

June is the time for fun outings, so Mary Martha Circle gathered for a picnic at a local park and continued collecting items for Care Beyond the Boulevard (CBB), the group they are supporting this month. CBB provides medical and mental health care to the homeless and under-served populations of Kansas City outside the bounds of traditional health care settings. It has been a labor of love for the group. So far, they have collected over 575 individual items, and some are shown here.
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) extends a heartfelt thank you to the Timothy congregation for your incredible generosity during this year’s Diaper Drive.
Thanks to your support, we collected 1,179 diapers for HappyBottoms, a local nonprofit that provides diapers to families in need across the Kansas City metro area.
Because of you, many little ones will stay clean, dry, and healthy—and their parents will breathe a little easier.
From the bottoms of our hearts, thank you for helping us cover more bottoms!
During June, we’re collecting items and gas cards ($10–$30) for Community Services League. Pick up a list of needed donations at the cart in the lobby. Gas cards can be dropped off with Sandy at the front desk. Thank you for supporting our community!

Being heart-healthy isn’t always the easiest task. It absolutely takes change and growing pains. As a result, it can be frustrating when we watch others trash their spiritual hearts and yet seemingly thrive. Our Psalmist today experiences this struggle, and in prayerful reflections, walks us through our response to it all.
The heart is vital for life. Once your heartbeat stops, life ceases to exist. The Scriptures speak of the heart often, although it isn’t simply the muscle that pumps blood through the body. The “heart” symbolizes the inner person, the source of thoughts, emotions, desires, and will of one’s life. This Sunday is the final message for this sermon series, as we will wrestle with what the Scriptures reveal about our hearts and how God engages and redeems our hearts. Yep, it’s time to do some “Heartwork,” so join us this Sunday.
This Sunday, Timothy’s Gather Commission invites you to join us in celebrating Father’s Day with a special token of appreciation and a chance to capture the moment. All men will receive a free pen as a small thank-you for the big ways they serve and lead in their families, church, and community.
A photo backdrop will also be available in the lobby for families to take pictures together—don’t miss the opportunity to snap a keepsake with those you love!
Thank you to all the men of Timothy Lutheran for your faith, strength, and example.

When Adam Reed was diagnosed with leukemia at age 12, his Timothy family formed a prayer chain known as “Adam’s Army.” It spread until hundreds of “prayer warriors” were lifting daily prayers in support of Adam during his 2 1/2 years of treatment. After Adam’s death, the Reed family and our Timothy family established the Adam’s Army Blood Drive to honor his memory and help others in need. Last Saturday marked the 20th annual drive! At the latest drive, we collected 43 units of blood.
Support for the drive through the years has been amazing, and we are so grateful for everyone who has volunteered, contributed, and given of themselves (literally!) to support this important cause. Over the years, Adam’s Army has collected more than 1300 units of blood, which represents nearly 4000 lives impacted. Together, we have truly made a difference in our community. Thank you, Timothy family!
You’ve heard the phrase “covering all the bases”—now Timothy’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is aiming to cover as many little bottoms as possible! This Sunday is the final opportunity that, LWML will collect disposable diapers of all sizes to support local families in need.
All donated diapers will go to HappyBottoms, a Kansas City-area organization that partners with social service agencies and hospitals to ensure that babies from low-income families have consistent access to clean diapers.
Join Pairs & Spares for a time of devotion, fellowship, and food on Monday, June 16, at 11:30 a.m. at Pointe of Hope! Come enjoy a summer picnic featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, and mac and cheese.
Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.
This group is open to all adults age 55 and older—we’d love to have you with us for great conversation, warm community, and a meaningful time together.
Summer is here, which means the free live Wednesday concerts at Colonial Gardens are back! All Timothy ladies and their friends are invited to join Women of Hope on Wednesday, June 18, at 6 pm in their greenhouse to relax with friends and make new friends! Colonial also offers farm-to-table food and a variety of drinks to purchase. Questions? Contact Diane Mayfield at dianem@timothylutheran.com.
The Tuesday morning Journeymen’s Bible Study finished 1 Peter: Walk the Talk, which began on April 15th. The heart, like anything else in our body, is a tricky thing. We can be doing all the “right” things, and everything on the outside can look fine, but that doesn’t mean our heart is functioning the way it should be. The same is true for our spiritual heart. And Jesus declares today the importance of monitoring our heart by seeing what it is producing. Maybe it’s time to take the test and see where we are at.
Over the next 5 weeks, we will wrestle with what the Scriptures reveal about our hearts and how God engages and redeems our hearts. Yep, it’s time to do some “Heartwork,” so join us starting May 18th.

Memorial Day Closure In honor of Memorial Day, the offices of Timothy Lutheran Church and School will be closed on Monday, May 27. We remember and give thanks for those who gave their lives in service to our country. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, May 28.
This past year, our church and school community rejoiced together as twelve individuals connected to Timothy Lutheran received the gift of baptism. Each baptism is a powerful reminder of God’s grace at work—calling, claiming, and covering these souls with His everlasting love.
We joyfully celebrate the baptisms of Aurora, James (former Pre-K student), and Olivia Carper, along with their mother, Rachel Carper; Charlotte Green (7th grade student, daughter of Steve and Carrie Green); Charlotte Helmich (5th grade student, daughter of Brandon and Jennifer Helmich); Miles Mattoon (son of Tyler and Katie Mattoon); Keziah Montgomery (daughter of Jeremy and Guin Montgomery); Kayden and Raena Myers (children of Thomas and Micaela Myers); Cooper Saylor (son of Aaron and Jennifer Saylor) and Lucas Tierney (3rd grade student, son of Andrew and Kristina Tierney).
These baptisms reflect the Holy Spirit at work in our midst. We lift these families in prayer and rejoice in their continued walk with Jesus.
Faith, Family & Fatherhood is a space for dads to grow in faith, build brotherhood, and support one another through the highs and lows of fatherhood. Whether it’s the daily grind or sacred milestones, you don’t have to walk it alone.
Guided by Proverbs 22:6
"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it."
If you’re a dad looking for biblical encouragement, real connection, and a community that gets it—this is for you.
We’ll meet the first Friday of every month moving forward.
Let’s walk this road of fatherhood together—with faith, family, and purpose.
Dear Timothy Congregation,
The Senior Pastor Call Committee has been patiently waiting for a new candidate list, which arrived last week, from the MO District Office. The committee asks for your prayers as its work continues to find the man that God has already chosen as Timothy’s Senior Pastor. Please watch for future updates about this call process. We also ask that you keep Timothy and the candidates’ churches in your prayers as we seek God’s wisdom and guidance throughout this journey.

More than 40 years ago, the Missouri District established an endowment to provide scholarships for university and seminary students from our state who were preparing for professional church work vocations. This school year, that same fund provided aid to 62 students. Praise God! As we prepare for our upcoming convention, congregations will be praying for the proceedings and taking a special offering on June 1 to help strengthen the Missouri District’s scholarship endowment. Our convention theme—"Bold Hope in Christ"—is a fitting reminder of how we can confidently work together in His kingdom for His glory. Thank you for your support!
Please donate directly to the Missouri District if you would like to donate. Click the button below to donate.
God’s continual care and concern for all of us have made us well-equipped to do the same for others. Thank you for showing the love of Christ to a community needing comfort. Should you have any questions, please reach out to the District office at 314-590-6200.

You’ve heard the phrase “covering all the bases”—now Timothy’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is aiming to cover as many little bottoms as possible! From Mother’s Day (May 11) through Father’s Day (June 15), LWML will collect disposable diapers of all sizes to support local families in need.
All donated diapers will go to HappyBottoms, a Kansas City-area organization that partners with social service agencies and hospitals to ensure that babies from low-income families have consistent access to clean diapers.
As we look forward to the joy and fun of summer, we’re facing a challenge: we are very low on FaithRoots volunteers as we head into summer. With many of our regular volunteers away or taking a little break, your help is more important than ever.
It is important for us to pour into the lives of our kiddos here at Timothy as we continue to grow generation after generation of Christ followers. Please prayerfully consider your gifts and willingness to serve in this way. Without more volunteers, we won’t be able to continue this amazing opportunity for our kiddos to grow in faith each week in the same way. Also be assured we work with individual’s schedules.
If you’re willing to help, or even just want to learn more, please reach out to Pastor Ryan or stop by FaithRoots area on a Sunday morning.
Let’s work together to make this a meaningful, faith-filled summer for our kids.

The Timmy Boys breakfast bunch at Timothy Lutheran Church enjoyed a special international flair at their recent gathering. Joining the group was Mike Johnson, visiting all the way from New Zealand. Mike is the father-in-law of Maria Spilker, daughter of longtime members Doug and Cathy Spilker.
The group welcomed Mike with warm hospitality and lively conversation over breakfast, making the morning extra memorable with this unique connection from across the globe. It was a wonderful reminder of how faith and fellowship bring people together—no matter the distance.

When there are heart issues, everything is put in jeopardy. The Scriptures speak the same way about our heart toward God. And Ezekiel starts out with some dire news. Man’s heart commonly becomes hardened like stone. As we contemplate this condition, the question becomes, “Is there anything that can be done?” Join us as we reflect on what the Lord has to say through the prophet.
Current Sermon Series
The heart is vital for life. Once your heartbeat stops, life ceases to exist. The Scriptures speak of the heart often, although it isn’t simply the muscle that pumps blood through the body. The “heart” symbolizes the inner person, the source of thoughts, emotions, desires, and will of one’s life. Over the next 5 weeks, we will wrestle with what the Scriptures reveal about our hearts and how God engages and redeems our hearts. Yep, it’s time to do some “Heartwork,” so join us starting May 18th.
