First Reading: Proverbs 29:18 Gospel Reading: Matthew 16-20
Churches rarely lose their way all at once. More often, they drift while remaining very busy. Calendars fill, programs continue, meetings multiply, and good people work hard—yet the congregation can slowly forget why it exists. Proverbs 29:18 is frequently treated as a leadership slogan, but the biblical tension is deeper: the “vision” the people need is not human ambition or an impressive strategic plan. It is God’s revealed Word, which exposes our drift and directs us back to His purposes. Without that Word, preference, fear, nostalgia, and convenience quietly become the congregation’s compass. Timothy is preparing to think about its future, its ministries, and its physical space. That creates a temptation to begin with square footage, budgets, personal wishes, or the question, “What would we like?” The Gospel begins somewhere else. Jesus declares that all authority belongs to Him, commands His Church to make disciples through Baptism and teaching, and promises to remain with us. The issue is not whether Timothy can create a compelling future; the issue is whether we will be centered on Christ’s Word and participate faithfully in the future He gives. The congregation must feel the difference between being active and being aligned, between preserving what is familiar and pursuing Christ’s mission, and between building our dream and receiving His direction. |

| | | My Dear Timothy Church and School Family,
During worship this Sunday, August 23, the elders will announce an upcoming change to our Sunday-morning schedule. Beginning November 1, our schedule will be: 8:30 am — Contemporary Worship 9:45 - 10:35 am — Worship+ 10:45 am — Traditional Worship
After prayerful conversation and careful consideration, the elders believe this is the direction Timothy Lutheran Church and School needs to take. We also understand that Sunday morning is an important and familiar rhythm in our lives. Changes to that rhythm naturally bring questions, and we do not take those concerns lightly.
Our vision is “Transforming Lives through Christ,” and our theme this year has been “Revitalizing Relationships by Sharing Sacred Spaces.” Yet our current schedule leaves little meaningful time for fellowship, conversation, and spiritual growth between services. If we are going to live faithfully into our vision and the 4 G’s — Gather, Grow, Give, and Go — we need to make room for those relationships.
The present schedule also gives our pastors very little time to check in with people between services. For many members, Sunday morning may be the only opportunity during the week to speak personally with a pastor.
Worship + will provide dedicated time for fellowship, FaithRoots, youth ministry, and a pastor-led Bible study. It will also allow more people to volunteer with FaithRoots without having to choose between teaching and attending worship.
Our desire is not simply to move times on a calendar. It is to create sacred space for people to worship, build relationships, grow in God’s Word, and care for one another.
Although the elders have decided on this direction, we sincerely want to hear your questions and help everyone under the the reasons behind the change. You may submit questions through the button below. |
|
| | Questions will be addressed during our informational meetings and through future editions of Timothy Connects. Informational meetings will be held: Sunday, August 30, at 11:45 am Thursday, September 3, at 6:00 pm Sunday, September 6, at 11:45 am
The Sunday meetings will take place following the second service, when seating will already be available. Please attend whichever meeting works best for you.
We ask you to pray for our congregation, our school, our leaders, and one another as we prepare for this transition. May God use this additional space to deepen our relationships, strengthen our faith, and help us continue Transforming Lives through Christ.
In Christ, Pastor Kendall Meyer, Senior Pastor On behalf of the Elders |

Last year, Timothy set a goal of connecting with each other through small group Bible study. As of today, there are ten small groups up and running with over 100 adults involved! Many groups welcome children, so adults, kids, and families are all forming bonds and growing in faith with others in the church. It’s amazing to see God’s work among us! There is nothing like having a church family. Come join the fun! Fall is a perfect time to jump in. Several existing groups have room for new members, and a new group will be starting on Wednesday evenings during Confirmation, led by Kate Kuecker. See the Timothy website for more info. https://timothylutheran.com/timothy-lutheran-small-groups/ or contact the GROW Commission at GROW@timothylutheran.com with questions or ideas. |

Grieving the loss of a loved one can bring a deep sense of sadness that touches every part of life. You may feel overwhelmed, stuck in a fog, or wonder if you will ever feel like yourself again. While grief is deeply personal, it is not a journey you have to walk alone. GriefShare offers a welcoming and supportive community where you can connect with others who understand the challenges of loss. Through encouragement, practical insights, and caring conversation, you can find hope and begin taking steps toward healing. Whether your loss is recent or occurred years ago, GriefShare provides a safe, compassionate place to share, listen, and grow alongside others who are traveling a similar path. Join us for Timothy’s GriefShare beginning September 10, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the Music Room. We invite you to come as you are and discover comfort, support, and hope for the days ahead. Join us for Oasis on September 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium for an evening of dinner, activities, fellowship, and time spent in God's Word.
Our September theme is "God Calls Us", based on 1 Samuel 3:1-14. In this Scripture, we hear the story of young Samuel, who was confused when God called him three times. Samuel did not yet recognize God's voice or understand the message God was giving him. Like Samuel, we can sometimes wonder if God is speaking to us or what He wants us to hear.
The good news is that we can be confident that God has called us. Through Holy Baptism, God has claimed us as His own children. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, He continues to guide, strengthen, and speak through His Word and through our lives.
Come and explore this important message with us as we gather for faith, fun, and fellowship. We look forward to seeing you there! 😊 |

| Tiffany graduated from Hillcrest Transitional Housing in 2016 and has since become a trailblazer in her family and community. Tiffany has not only maintained independent housing for herself and her children since 2016 but has also emerged as a community leader. She launched her nonprofit, Hold Em Up 4 Care, the only organization focused on providing perfect-fit clothing to youth and adults, thereby promoting equality, enhancing self-esteem, and supporting mental health resilience. Over the past four years, Hold Em Up 4 Care has provided access to mental health care, educational resources, and life-changing programs in safe, clean spaces. Not only has Tiffany established a thriving organization, but she also decided to run for Missouri State Representative and began her term as the new State Representative in 2025. Tiffany is a beacon of hope and light for the entire Hillcrest Transitional Housing family, serving as an inspiration and role model for all. We are truly grateful for your commitment to our mission and for making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. Your kindness and generosity make our work possible, and we couldn't do it without supporters like you. We look forward to keeping you updated on the impact your gift is making.” |
