We finally find ourselves at the heart of this letter. These words today challenge and call out a church who had become complacent in its faith. And while we think we are above that the truth is this is a constant struggle within the church. It’s a danger that every generation faces. So today we stop to reflect and listen. Today, we recognize it’s time to grow up in our faith.
Who is the greatest? It’s a debate in sports circles, artist circles, fashion circles, and beyond. Even within the Scriptures, these debates are found: is Moses the greatest or is Abraham, is the law the greatest, or is grace even greater? On Sundays through May 11th, we will walk together through the book of Hebrews in a series called “Greater is He.” This book is a letter written to the church in Israel as they struggled to grasp the fullness of God’s victory in Christ. Chapter after chapter, we will see that Jesus is indeed greater than all things, all people, all promises. So join us by reading, worshiping, and being grounded in this eternal truth. Indeed, “Greater is He!”
You are invited to join us in the Auditorium for Dining with Jesus, meals (6-6:30 pm) followed by worship (6:30-7:00 pm).
Why around a table? Because that’s where our Lord often did some of His most important ministry. As a matter of fact, throughout the Scriptures, we see meals as a beautiful place where God does some amazing stuff. This year we will spend our worship/study time exploring the sacrificial system of the Old Testament as found in Leviticus 1-6. Yes, we are serious, and while we won’t be bringing animals to be slaughtered, you will be interactively involved in the series in some simple ways. Intrigued? Good! I’m pretty sure you won’t want to miss it as we dine together, grow together, and set our eyes on the greatest sacrifice, our Lord and Savior’s death. This series will carry us through and be our reflection on Good Friday. Join us!

Nobody loves to suffer. As a matter of fact, we spend a lot of money and energy trying to make our lives less difficult. And when suffering comes we have no problem voicing our dis-pleasures with God. But the author of Hebrew tells us that suffering has at least one purpose. What is it? Well join us and find out.

For nearly eight years, Janie Wilson has faithfully served as the instrumental music teacher at Timothy Lutheran School, bringing passion, dedication, and excellence to the program. Her commitment to music education has not only strengthened the school’s offerings but has also enriched the lives of students and the entire school community.
When Janie first took on the role, the instrumental music program had just six members. Through her enthusiasm, expertise, and encouragement, it has grown tremendously. Today, the program has expanded to the point where two classes are needed to accommodate the increasing number of students. Looking ahead, enrollment is expected to exceed 30 students in the upcoming school year—a true testament to Janie’s ability to inspire young musicians and foster a love for music
Beyond her contributions in music, Janie plays a vital role in the Timothy Lutheran School family. She regularly shares the Word of God with students and colleagues, living out the school’s mission in both word and action. Her presence is a blessing, and the impact she continues to have on students is deeply valued.
As Timothy Lutheran School looks to the future, the community is grateful for Janie’s leadership and dedication. Her efforts have not only shaped a thriving music program but have also instilled a lifelong appreciation for music and faith in the hearts of many students.

Whether sleeping in, taking a vacation, or starting a new hobby, rest is good for our minds and bodies. But in the climate we live in, it seems we are always chasing it and rarely catching it. The Lord is well aware of this and wired rest into creation. But the issue is that we miss it, and we settle for something far less. So, join us as we “strive” to enter the Lord’s rest.

We are genuinely grateful for Gary’s hard work, kind spirit, and servant’s heart. Be sure to give him a big “thank you” next time you see him around!

Blue Springs Rotary hosts an annual coloring contest for students in the local schools. Each year has a different theme. This year's theme is "What Does Kindness Look Like to You?". Teachers select the students' artwork and post it to be voted on at $1 vote. All the money collected from the votes is distributed to the students with the most votes in their age group (K-2 and 3-5). The two winners split the money raised, and a check is donated to the school for art supplies.
This year, the K-2 winner was a student from a Grain Valley school. The 3-5 winner was Lydia Nicolaus, a 4th grader at Timothy in Mrs. Kim Brunkhorst's class. Blue Springs Rotary presented a check to Mrs. Brunkhorst and Lydia to be used for art supplies. Congratulations to Lydia, and a special thanks to Mrs. Brunkhorst for making it a possibility!

Moses has always been “the guy” to any Jew. He rescued, led, and gave the law to the people. What he did during his earthly life was unmatched. The problem is we can get so caught up on Moses or another that we fail to see the greater one that God promised and God sent. Jesus does things Moses and the law could never do. So, let’s take a closer look.
Join us!

Did you know that part of Timothy’s tithe ($5,000 annually) supports the operation of one of the apartments at Hillcrest Transitional Housing in Lee’s Summit? Timothy Hillcrest team volunteers clean and stock the apartment prior to the move-in date and then deliver a “welcome meal” which provides an opportunity to meet the resident and offer prayerful support. During the three-month stay in the apartment, the Hillcrest staff leads the resident/family to self-sufficiency on an “all need and no wants” budget.
Timothy’s current resident, Tracy, works full-time, Sunday through Wednesday, at Amazon. She has four children, but they do not currently live with her. Please keep Tracy in your prayers as she is working hard to pay off an eviction. If you would like to send cards of encouragement throughout her stay, please send to Hillcrest Transitional Housing, 501 SW Mission Rd., Apartment 307C, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063. Thank you for supporting Hillcrest by donating items for its food pantry and at Christmas when the family receives gifts through Timothy’s Journey to the Manger minsitry

If Jesus is Lord and His Word carries such power, why in the world does everything feel messy? Why do so many of our days feel heavy and out of control? Chances are you have probably questioned these things, and maybe you’ve even questioned Jesus’s Lordship. Today we ponder whether Jesus is Lord is enough.

This week, we are delighted to recognize Ms Phyllis Westermann for her dedication and service to our school. As a devoted Pre-K teacher, she plays a vital role in shaping our youngest students. Beyond the school year, she continues to impact children’s lives through the Summer Care program, providing consistency, care, and Christ-centered guidance.
Ms Phyllis’s love for her students is evident in the many hugs she receives—even from those who have long since left her class. She has a special way of making children feel cherished while instilling in them the love of God.
Her commitment to our ministry goes beyond her own classroom. She is always willing to assist fellow preschool teachers by sharing resources and ideas, often using her own time and materials to ensure that all students are well-prepared for the next stage of their education.
Ms Phyllis is a “Rock Star” of Timothy Lutheran School, demonstrating unwavering love and dedication to our ministry. We are incredibly grateful for her passion, kindness, and the lasting impact she has on our students and staff alike.

Last week we dove into the book of Hebrews by solidifying who Jesus is and the importance of what He is saying. But words without a hearer do no good. Jesus Himself said, “He who has ears let him hear.” This week we are warned that not listening to Jesus can set us adrift. And taking His words lightly can be just as dangerous. So join us as we reground our lives in the words of our savior.

Jesus is, in fact, universally known. Very few, if any, refute His existence. But who Jesus actually is can take you all over the place, depending on who you talk to. As a matter of fact, our own hearts often place our own ideas on who Jesus is. Well at the beginning of this beautiful sermon, the truth is laid that sets a foundation for the rest of the book of Hebrews.

What is it? A piano? An organ? The answer is “YES” to both, and it is many other instrumental sounds in between! Timothy’s music ministry is asking for your help to purchase a new instrument to be used at both the 9 am contemporary service and the 10:30 amtraditional service at Timothy. This new digital keyboard - Yamaha Clavinova - has a wide variety of instrumental settings and features that will really “Raise the Praise”, adding richness and variety to both of our worship services. You can donate toward our goal of $10,000 by clicking the button to donate or write “Raise the Praise” on your envelope.

The story seemingly has come to an end. Boaz and Ruth marry and have a child; Naomi is blessed by it all. But that’s not the end. When God acts generously in the lives of His people it’s never intended for just a moment. God sees a bigger picture and has a much bigger plan. So how might God’s generosity in your life make generational impacts? Let’s explore that together.
Who is the greatest? It’s a debate in sports circles, artist circles, fashion circles, and beyond. Even within the Scriptures, these debates are found'; is Moses the greatest or is Abraham, is the law the greatest or is grace even greater? From February 23rd through May 11th we are going to walk together through the book of Hebrews in a series called “Greater is He.” This book is a letter written to the church in Israel as they struggled to grasp the fullness of God’s victory in Christ. Chapter after chapter we will see that Jesus is indeed greater than all things, all people, all promises. So join us reading, worshiping, and being grounded in this eternal truth. Indeed “Greater is He!”
What is it? A piano?

When we have an abundance, it makes it a little easier to be generous. But the truth of the matter is generosity at times is going to cost us something. Boaz’s offer to redeem Ruth comes with some serious costs, costs our Lord knows all about. As we encounter this climax to the story, we also must consider what it means to give generously even when it costs us.

As Ruth sets to work in the fields to earn a dangerous and hard living she encounters a man who is beyond generous—a Man with wealth but with it he gives to her in abundance for the sake of blessing. As we come to another first fruits Sunday we reflect on the abundance of what God has given in the past and we look ahead trusting His faithfulness ahead. So how do we give as Boaz did to bless others trusting in God to provide?
Did you know that offering your First Fruits is a powerful act of worship?
In the Bible, First Fruits offerings held immense significance. They were a tangible expression of gratitude to God for His abundant blessings. By presenting the very first and best of their harvest, the Israelites acknowledged God as the true source of His generosity.
This act symbolized their deep trust and commitment to honoring Him in all areas of their lives.
Join us in this meaningful tradition as we offer our First Fruits to God this Sunday, February 2, during worship.
By dedicating the first portion of your blessings back to God, you demonstrate your faith in His provision for the year ahead.
We invite you to prayerfully consider how you can participate in this special offering. Let us come together as a community of faith, expressing our gratitude and trusting in God's abundant grace.
May God bless you as you seek to honor Him with your First Fruits.
Timothy Lutheran invites all members to attend a Special Voters’ Meeting on Sunday, February 2, immediately following the second service. The purpose of this important meeting is to extend a divine call for Timothy’s next Senior Pastor.
This is a significant step in the life of our congregation, and your participation is vital. A quorum of 40 voting members is required to proceed with the decision-making process, so we encourage everyone to make this a priority.
Please prayerfully consider attending as we come together as a church family to seek God’s guidance in this important decision. We look forward to seeing you there!
This week, we are thrilled to celebrate Debbie Rose as we continue to recognize our “Rock Star” teachers.
Miss Debbie currently teaches preschool, the two half-day classes. She started mid-September 2024 and hasn’t slowed down one bit. She has experience working for and running a pre-school, so coming to Timothy wasn’t a difficult choice. She is a constant source of encouragement and positivity, pouring her heart into her students each day.
I know I have used this verse to describe other staff, but it does fit Miss. Debbie. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Colossians 3:23-24
Miss Debbie, thank you for your joyful heart, unwavering commitment, and the love you pour into your students. We are truly blessed to have you as part of our Timothy Lutheran Preschool family!
Timothy Lutheran is here to support you through life’s challenges. GriefShare and DivorceCare will resume in February, offering a safe space for healing and encouragement. GriefShare helps those navigating the pain of losing a loved one, while DivorceCare provides guidance and hope for individuals going through separation or divorce. Both groups meet weekly, fostering community and spiritual growth. Don’t face these struggles alone—let Timothy be part of your healing journey.
