True Contentment Matters

Are you feeling restless, like something is missing but you can't quite place it?  Join us for worship this week, where we'll explore the idea of true fulfillment.  The Bible teaches us that chasing material possessions can leave us empty, but there's a deeper joy to be found.  Come discover the peace and contentment that comes from trusting in God's promises.

Some of the Most Relief Giving Words

If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. James 1:5 The Message
These might be some of the most relief-giving words in the Bible: “If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray  to the Father. He loves to help.” So often in life, we don’t know what we’re doing! We don’t know what we’re doing with our careers, with parenting a difficult child, with finding the right treatment for a daunting diagnosis. We don’t know how to help a friend understand our perspective or how to move forward from past trauma. Today’s Scripture assures us that it’s okay not to know! Because God is here to help.
The NIV translation says it this way: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).
Raise your hand if you’re lacking wisdom today. Pray and ask God for what you need! He is so kind, generous, and faithful to give it.

Church Matters

Resurrection Sunday is the pinnacle of our faith and the amazing work of Christ on our behalf. But it isn't the end. As Jesus stepped out of that tomb, He spent the next 40 days preparing His disciples to be the bricklayers for building His church. And then on Pentecost, He entrusted them with His Holy Spirit to carry on the task.

Today, we still take part in this incredible thing called the church. Yet, at times, we forget what it's all about or what matters within the church. As we continue our transition here at Timothy, we will take time this spring to let the Lord remind us what matters to Him within His church. To do that, we will work our way through the book of 1 Timothy.

1 Timothy is a letter written by the Apostle Paul to a young pastor named Timothy as he navigates the church he has been called to lead. In this letter, Paul reminds both Timothy and the church of some incredibly important things that keep the church grounded in its identity.

Our series will be called "Church Matters." We are eager to spend April and May studying together some of the things that matter within the church so that we might continue to pursue the calling of God and rejoice that we get to be a part of His church.

Call Committee Update

Timothy’s Call Committee is currently preparing the Senior Pastor Congregational Survey. After final draft is  prepared by the MO District personnel, this survey will be available for the congregation to complete, either online or print copy, from June 9 – 30. Thank you for continuing to keep the Call Committee and the entire call process in your prayers.

Highlighting Timothy Tithes

Today we are highlighting Timothy's tithe for Lutherans for Life. Through your generous tithes and donations, we can support Lutherans for Life in their efforts to promote life-affirming values and provide resources for individuals facing difficult decisions regarding pregnancy, end-of-life care, and other critical issues.

Lutherans For Life exists to equip Lutherans and their neighbors to be Gospel-motivated voices For Life. They do this through their quarterly journal, “LifeDate,” countless resources produced for local congregations, Life Sunday materials, speaking and preaching, online Chats 4Life, Frontline conference calls, Life Teams, Life Chapters, and Life Advocates, as well as national and regional conferences.

Please take time to educate yourself on this organization at https://lutheransforlife.org/

Timothy Hillcrest Team Needs You

Timothy Lutheran Church has been a part of the Hillcrest Transitional Housing team for many years.  If you don’t already know, Hillcrest is a program that helps move homeless families and youth from homelessness to self-sufficiency, becoming self-supporting, self-reliant contributors to society. Timothy sponsors an apartment in Lee’s Summit.  Participants in the program usually stay in our apartment for 3 months.

We praise God for the success of the recent graduates: 1) he used his time at Hillcrest to save over $4000 but also to cultivate positive habits for a better life;  (2) during her time in the program she has demonstrated a strong commitment to personal and financial growth, managing to save over $5000; (3) recognizing her own needs and the needs of her daughter, she has taken the necessary steps to improve their future; (4) throughout her journey in the program, she encountered numerous obstacles but did not let them deter her from her ultimate goal of securing housing for herself and her 4 children, whose story serves as an inspiration to others that even the most difficult circumstances can be overcome;  (5) his journey with Hillcrest has been marked with determination to dedicate himself in paying off his eviction as well as focusing on his emotional well-being and working to rebuild significant relationships, particularly with his parents and his son.

If you would love to be a part of Timothy's Hillcrest team, contact Sandy Gregory at church (816-228-5300). Currently, we need help cleaning and restocking the apartment when residents leave, approximately every 3 months.  We would love a hospitality group that takes a meal when the new resident moves in, send cards to our residents during their stay, and helps with graduation, birthdays, holidays, etc.  This is not a big time commitment but a chance to walk alongside someone working so hard.

Serving Matters

In today's passage, Paul offers inspiring words to Timothy, but his message extends far beyond Timothy. We are all servants of Christ Jesus, and though the world may try to belittle and discourage us, our work for transforming lives through Christ and the strength we find in each other will propel us forward until the glorious return of our Lord Jesus.

When You Struggle While Running the Race of Life

A while ago I hurt my ankle. After time, healing and therapy, I woke up on a sunny morning and laced up my sneakers. I was ready to begin walking again. You got this! The voice of hope whispered. Yeah. I got this! I  whispered back. But my motivational pep talk waned as I labored to breathe, and my legs grew heavy. What a disappointment. Just like that, I allowed pessimism to replace the voice of hope.

Starting over is a courageous act that requires faith — and it’s okay to begin again. Sometimes it’s even necessary. God doesn’t hold us hostage to our past or compare whom we are today to whom we were yesterday. God sees us as the people He created us to be before He laid the foundations of the earth. When we’re struggling while running the race of life, barely catching our breath, God never changes His mind about us based on our performance. He is our Ultimate Coach — strengthening our feeble arms for the journey, propelling us forward through fatigue, quenching our thirst, and nourishing our weary souls.
When life happens and we want to give up, He reminds us whom we are from His lens. We just need to trust the Coach and exercise patience with ourselves during the process — even if it means beginning again.
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

Call Committee Update

Last Thursday, the Call Committee welcomed MO District President Dr. Lee Hagan and Circuit Visitor Pastor Gary Stolle to its meeting to learn an overview of the steps in the divine call process for our next Senior Pastor. The congregation is encouraged to view these steps on Timothy’s website in the About Us link.

Before leading extensive discussion and answering follow-up questions concerning these steps, President Hagan outlined three options for the committee’s focus:  1) calling a current Timothy associate pastor; 2) not calling a current Timothy associate pastor; and 3) calling a pastor from outside the congregation.

At the Call Committee meeting last night, Pastor Peter Kirby from the MO District was welcomed as he led the group through the development of a Congregational Survey which will be available in early June for the congregation to complete. Please continue to keep the Call Committee and the entire call process in your prayers. Thank you!

Shepherds Matter

Though Jesus leads the Church, He entrusts ministry to carefully chosen pastors. These leaders aren't simply appointed; Jesus sets clear expectations and holds them accountable for this weighty calling. The congregation also plays a vital role, both in honoring and challenging their pastors.

MOMS

Proverbs 31:10 "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."

Moms are the ones who hug, dance, and snuggle. Moms get overwhelmed, whose snarls sometimes come easier than smiles. Moms live in the push-pull of exhaustion and joy. Moms long for more. More grace. More patience. More coffee. More time (always more time). More Christ in them. At the same time, moms long for less. Less laundry. Less fighting. Less yelling. Less clutter. Less selfishness. Less guilt. Less business.

As Mother’s Day approaches, I know that it is a complex day full of many emotions and experiences. Every single woman who loves, encourages, and nurtures the children in her life becomes part of the next generation. We all are doing amazing work and is to be celebrated.

The Call Committee was commissioned in worship on May 5th. They will meet on May 16th with Pastor Peter Kirby  from MO District to learn about creating a congregational survey. The congregation is encouraged to check Timothy's website regularly for updates as well as in Timothy Connects and on Sundays, as time allows.
Please continue to keep the Call Committee and the call process in your prayers, that His will be done to find the next man to serve as Timothy's Senior Pastor.

2024 Timothy Lutheran Service Opportunities

As the Church Matters sermon series continues, the Give Commission is excited to offer a tool to help the congregation get involved with Timothy’s ministry and service opportunities. In addition, clicking on this link  Service Opportunities Survey - Timothy Lutheran Ministries will send you an online form if that is preferable. Once submitted through any of the various formats, you will be contacted soon to get you connected. Thank you very much!

Potluck, Puzzles and Prayer

Check out the winners of Potluck, Puzzles, and Prayer Night. Everyone came together to share food, listened to a wonderful devotion by Pastor Ryan, and had some healthy puzzle competition.

God Speaks Incomplete

Though Jesus leads the Church, he entrusts ministry to carefully chosen pastors. These leaders aren't simply appointed; Jesus sets clear expectations and holds them accountable for this weighty calling. The congregation also plays a vital role, both in honoring and challenging their pastors.

The Grace of the Upside-Down Kingdom

“The point is this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart — not reluctantly or out of compulsion since God loves a cheerful giver. And God can make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Generosity and provision in the Kingdom of God don’t make sense. From our perspective, there’s always an end.  Things run out, whether that’s finances, energy, or time. It seems that if we give too much, if we invest too much, we may not get the same in return, or we may even burn out.
But God’s Kingdom is an upside-down kingdom. As the passage says, He can make every grace overflow to you. It won’t come from striving or hustling, but it will flow from the Father down to you and then to those around you. We can sow generously, and give generously, because the overflow of God’s provision of abundant grace never ends.

Church Matters

Resurrection Sunday is the pinnacle of our faith and the amazing work of Christ on our behalf. But it isn't the end. As Jesus stepped out of that tomb, He spent the next 40 days preparing His disciples to be the bricklayers for building His church. The Call Committee will meet also on May, 16th to learn about creating the congregational survey. Ministry Together Matters

Forget the idea of a one-man show or a select few doing all the heavy lifting. The church, as God envisioned it, is about a shared journey. He equips each of us with unique gifts and calls us to use them in different roles, building up the church as a whole. This might not always align with our preferences, but that's a conversation worth having.

God Will Meet Us in the Muchness

I’m writing this just after Easter. Holy Week, the days stretching from Palm Sunday to Easter, hold the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. In my personal life, this week holds tender and difficult memories. Where is Jesus in  the hosanna and the how can it be, the deep betrayal and the bewildering silence and the sustaining joy?

As I open the Gospels and read the account of what happened that week, each one is like a chapter in a larger story. We know how the story ends. God goes back to a garden, Jesus doesn’t run, and Love stays on the cross. Resurrection comes with the morning, and Friday becomes Good. But in our own stories, during the terrible Fridays and confusing Saturdays of our own lives, when we know the last page of the story yet have no idea what tomorrow will bring, it’s this truth that brings comfort: “I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’” Isaiah 46:10

God knows the end from the beginning, and no matter what or how much our days hold, He will hold us. Nothing – nothing – will take Him by surprise. There’s no such thing as “too much” for God, and He will be faithful to meet us in the muchness of our days. Somehow, mysteriously, and miraculously, God holds us.

The Senior Pastor Call Committee met on April 23 for organizational purposes, introducing the members and  reviewing the steps in the divine call process. Any voting members interested in serving as the chair or secretary of this committee will contact Tary Krahenbuhl by today, April 26. On April 24th, the committee learned that  MO District President Hagan will meet with the committee on May 9th. The Call Committee will be commissioned on May 5th, at the end of the 9 am service and at the beginning of the 10:30 service.  The congregation is encouraged to check Timothy's website regularly for updates as well as in Timothy Connects and on Sundays, as time allows.
Please continue to keep the Call Committee and the call process in your prayers, that His will be done to find the next man to serve as Timothy's Senior Pastor.

Grace Matters

Do you ever question your faith? It's common. We all have moments of doubt, and the enemy loves to fuel that doubt. But remember, those doubts don't define you. God's grace extends to everyone, no matter where they are on their spiritual journey. Let's refocus on the power of that grace today.

Hope for When Life Doesn't Add Up

You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good.
He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. Gen. 50:20

As I dumped the bag of 100 puzzle pieces onto the table, I was challenged because the box was gone. It’s hard to attempt something so confusing without guidance.
Putting together a puzzle without the picture is like trying to fix life’s problems without considering God’s blueprint for our lives. Our relationships, our friendships, and our families are all pieces of God’s master puzzle, but we must use the Bible as our box top to best navigate those difficult times. Often His picture takes time to unfold. We want to give up. The waiting is a challenge. So when it feels too hard, we need to just work on a few ‘pieces’ at a time.
Often, God’s plan doesn’t come together on our timetable. Yet one truth we cling to: God’s purpose and plan for us is good because God is good. All the time, God is good. Work one piece at a time, cling to His goodness, and rest in His sovereignty.

Church Matters

Resurrection Sunday is the pinnacle of our faith and the amazing work of Christ on our behalf. But it isn't the end. As Jesus stepped out of that tomb, He spent the next 40 days preparing His disciples to be the bricklayers for building His church. Senior Pastor Call Committee

After much prayer and discussion, the Board of Elders has approved the Senior Pastor Call Committee roster to begin the divine call process of following God's direction to find the man He has already chosen as Timothy's next Senior Pastor.

While every effort was made to follow MO District President Hagan's recommendation to keep the committee from seven to nine members, a stronger consideration to provide a broad demographic representation brought the total to ten voting members with four additional members serving as non-voting advisors/consultants.
The voting committee members are Charlie Bock, Charlie Cronkhite, Sam Downs, Mel Falk, Rachel Honig, Tary Krahenbuhl, Kate Kuecker, Diane Mayfield, Rachel Pierce, and Tyler Shaffer. Non-voting committee advisors/consultants are Pastor Ryan, Pastor Rod, Nancy Nowiszewski, and Steve Schild. Circuit Pastor Gary Stolle will assist the committee as a representative from the MO District.

The next steps include an initial meeting of Timothy's Call Committee on April 23rd, followed by a meeting with President Hagan soon. Congregational input will be essential throughout the entire process. Updates about the call process can be found on the church website under the About Us link.  Please keep this process and the Call Committee in your prayers as we seek God's will to be done.

Doctrine Matters

Sure, we hear it all the time, “Just believe in Jesus and you’re good to go!” While faith in Jesus is absolutely essential and necessary, faith is much more. The Bible offers a rich tapestry of truths waiting to be explored. What we believe shapes who we are, so let’s turn to Paul’s letter and discover the fullness of God’s truth together.

Make Space in Your Soul for Hope

Ask anyone from Missouri about “fake spring” and they’ll surely have a story for you about packing away all the coats or planting flowers just to have to back track when the temperature drops and the frost returns. While I’m all for a shortened winter, I think these false-start spring days have something to teach us about the spiritual practice of living expectantly.
We should never mind false-start sunny days. Hope deferred is still hope. We need the small offerings of hope in our lives to remind us that just as there is darkness around us, light is near, too. It’s easy to close our hearts and say hope is too far gone from a season, situation, or person. But it’s the braver choice to have the audacity to believe hope will return to our hearts.
In Mark 9, a man is desperate for relief for his son who is having seizures. He begs Jesus to help his child, and says, “I believe. Help me in my unbelief.” When hope seems lost, maybe the best we can do is get really honest with the One who knows every ache of our heart by praying this prayer: “I hope. Help me in my hopelessness”.
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

Church Matters

Resurrection Sunday is the pinnacle of our faith and the amazing work of Christ on our behalf. But it isn’t the end. As Jesus stepped out of that tomb, He spent the next 40 days preparing His disciples to be the bricklayers for building His church. And then on Pentecost, He entrusted them with His Holy Spirit to carry on the task.

Today, we still take part in this incredible thing called the church. Yet, at times, we forget what it’s all about or what matters within the church.

Our series will be called “Church Matters.” We are eager to spend April and May studying together some of the things that matter within the church so that we might continue to pursue the calling of God and rejoice that we get to be a part of His church.

Senior Pastor Call Committee

After much prayer and discussion, the Board of Elders has approved the Senior Pastor Call Committee roster to begin the divine call process of following God’s direction to find the man He has already chosen as Timothy’s next Senior Pastor.

While every effort was made to follow MO District President Hagan’s recommendation to keep the committee from seven to nine members, a stronger consideration to provide a broad demographic representation brought the total to ten voting members with four additional members serving as non-voting advisors/consultants.
The voting committee members are Charlie Bock, Charlie Cronkhite, Sam Downs, Mel Falk, Rachel Honig, Tary Krahenbuhl, Kate Kuecker, Diane Mayfield, Rachel Pierce, and Tyler Shaffer. Non-voting committee advisors/consultants are Pastor Ryan, Pastor Rod, Nancy Nowiszewski, and Steve Schild. Circuit Pastor Gary Stolle will assist the committee as a representative from the MO District.

Next steps include an initial meeting of Timothy’s Call Committee within the next two weeks, followed by a meeting with President Hagan. Congregational input will be essential throughout the entire process. Please keep this process and the Call Committee in your prayers as we seek God’s will to be done.

Missouri District Youth Gathering

Our Junior High kids had a great post Easter gathering at Cross Pointe Retreat Center at the Lake of the Ozarks. We gathered with about 450 others to worship, grow, serve, and play! Our main speaker, Cassie Moorec invited us to recognize that we all are going through things from anxiety, fears, past baggage, and dark thoughts. Then she challenged us to lay those things on/at the cross and know that Jesus is in the midst of it all. The other speaker, Tanner Olson, shared some amazing poetry that stirred our hearts also. During breakouts we created baptismal birthday bags and made thank-you cards for our local fire department. We came back physically tired but spiritually full. Thanks for your prayers!!

Your Turn

Throughout Lent, Holy Week, and Resurrection Sunday, we saw how Jesus gathered people around a table to share a meal and teach them about the Kingdom of God. Today, following a simple meal at the side of the lake, Jesus calls Peter aside to prepare him because the time was coming when Jesus would ascend into heaven, but the meals wouldn’t end. No, instead Jesus called Peter to be His representative and to continue to “feed my sheep.” While Peter’s calling from Jesus was unique to care for the church, it sets before us an invitation, that all who know the blessing of being at the Lord’s table are called to go out and share with others and invite others to the feast that has no end. Can we do it? Will we do it?

When You’re Not Ready, Jesus Shows Up Anyway

We had a big move in our family this week. Decisions needed to be made, what to take and what to sell. Inside I was saying, “We aren’t ready.” Moving is incredibly hard. No one talks about the emotional side. It takes a lot of grace to get through. That’s when I hear the gentle reminder of Jesus’ words to His friend Martha when she was worked up at her own overwhelm: “There is need of only one thing” (Luke 10:42)

That one thing is always and everywhere to see the face of Christ in the people around us. The sacred image-bearer of the divine that walks with us makes decisions and helps us move the obstacles before us. We remember that our most important, loving actions on any given day are often when we let ourselves get interrupted by God. We might never feel ready, but Jesus shows up anyway. What a gift when we remember that we can show up with compassion for each other, too.

A Celebration of Faith, Unity, and Community

At Timothy Lutheran Church, the Lenten Season was a vibrant celebration that brought our faith community together as one. The Dining with Jesus mid-week services were well-attended and received, carrying over into packed services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Easter Sunday services were also successful in bringing together congregation members and the wider community in a joyous and meaningful observance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. All Holy Week services were characterized by heartfelt worship, inspiring sermons, and beautiful music, providing worshipers with opportunities for reflection, renewal, and spiritual growth.

This week would have not been possible without the visionary leadership of the dedicated staff and volunteers at Timothy Lutheran. Their unwavering commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and spiritually enriching environment set the stage for a truly memorable Easter celebration this week. As we reflect on the Easter season, we are filled with gratitude for the blessings of faith, fellowship, and service experienced at Timothy Lutheran.

Mr. Holland Accepts Call

At the Annual Voters’ Assembly Meeting in January, the voters approved the motion from the School Board, with support from the Board of Elders and Executive Board, to extend a divine call to TLS School Administrator Ken Holland as a LCMS-rostered School Principal. Over the past few months, all paperwork has been completed and approved for this process to continue. Last week, Ken officially accepted the call, and now Timothy awaits word from the MO District that Ken’s installation can occur during a worship service in the near future. We praise God and give Him glory for Ken’s service to Timothy. Below is Ken’s letter to the congregation.

“Dear Members of Timothy,

It is with joy that I can report the acceptance of the call to Timothy Lutheran Church to serve as Timothy Lutheran School Principal. With firm conviction, I believe God wants me to participate in ministry with you. What a special blessing for me!

May our loving and gracious God bless our efforts in ministry together.

In Christ,

Ken Holland”

Supporting St. Paul Lutheran High School

Saint Paul Lutheran High School sent a thank-you letter to Timothy Lutheran regarding the donation received from the February 11th performance by the Singing Saints. They are so thankful for the gift of $1,264.00. (additional $250 in checks directly to St. Paul)

Saint Paul Lutheran High School’s Servants of the Saints will host their Spring Rummage Sale April 17-20.

April 17 6pm-8 pm, April 18 7am-6pm, April 19 8am-6pm, April 20 8am-noon.

This is a great sale to purchase adult and children’s clothing, shoes, toys, home goods, tools, antiques, books, and more at great prices. The sale is located in the Weis Gym Annex at 205 S. Main Street, Concordia, MO.

Supporting Haiti

In the midst of turmoil and uncertainty, a beacon of hope continues to shine in the town of Jacmel, Haiti. While the country grapples with unrest and violence, the church in Jacmel stands as a testament to resilience and unwavering faith. Despite the challenges they face, the community remains steadfast in their commitment to serve and uplift one another.

Recent reports may paint a grim picture of Haiti, with images of rioting and gangs dominating the headlines, particularly in the capital city of Port-au-Prince. However, it’s important to note that Jacmel, nestled along the southern coast, remains relatively calm amidst the chaos. The church in Jacmel is safe, providing solace and support to its members during these trying times.

However, behind the scenes, a different challenge looms large for the congregation. Ministry in Mission, a vital source of support for the church, has encountered financial difficulties. For several years, Ministry in Mission was giving the church $2000 per month to pay their pastors, secretary, and musicians but recently stopped. Timothy Lutheran’s tithe was originally designated for the support of the church in other ways; it will now be directed to these ministry leaders to aid in the support of their church. Timothy’s Lutheran’s original tithe went to building this church building.

Progress is moving right along for the storage building. Please see the projected steps below.

Next Steps in the project plan:

  • Apply for the building permit (week of April 1st)
  • Provide the city planning commission with color renderings of the building (week of April 1st)
  • Work with Gary Flandermeyer and the Property Board to finish the request for proposal documents for bid (week of April 1st)
  • Executive Board, legal, and business manager RFP(Request for Proposal) reviews and sign off (week of April 8st)
  • Release RFP(Request for Proposal) documents for bid (week of April 15th)

A Ghost Don’t Eat Toast – Easter Sunday

It’s been a journey this Lent, sharing a table with Jesus, learning from Jesus, watching Jesus. That seemingly came to an end for the disciples though when Jesus’ lifeless body was laid in a tomb, but on this day, this Resurrection Sunday, we know that our Redeemer Lives! We celebrate that Christ has risen from the grave. And You know what we find this risen Lord doing? Sharing meals! So before we sit around the table with family today let us encounter this risen and hungry Lord.

When It Feels Like You’re Wilting

The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courts of our God. Psalm 92:12-13

These past few weeks, I haven’t been taking as much time reading my Bible. I see it sitting next to my chair, but I am just so busy right now. I have a list of reasons, and all of those reasons are legitimate. But without any time spent with Jesus, all of those reasons are slowly emptying me. A few days ago, as I was sitting on my bed, I told Jesus, “I feel like I’m withering like I’m shriveling right up.” If I were a flower, it would be a wilted one.
Jesus is the real source, the One who takes our shriveled-up selves and breathes life into us, allowing us to slowly, slowly begin to work our way from wilted flowers to people who can flourish — Without Him, we are empty. Only when we lay ourselves down, when we give Him our worries and fears and anxieties can we finally be full.

So join me on a return journey, praying and reading our Bibles. So we are a people, no longer wilting. Our circumstances may remain the same, but our roots can vastly change. Jesus: the Rock who is the One who can forever sustain us.

At the heart of Maundy Thursday service is the celebration of Holy Communion. As we gather this Thursday, let’s welcome the Early Communion Class to join us during Holy Communion.
They spent 4 weeks learning about The Lord’s Supper and now will be joining us at the altar.

Celebrating Easter at Timothy

As you enter the auditorium this Sunday, you’ll notice the long Easter banners hanging on the walls on either side of the stage. Thanks to Don and Gary for completing this process.Timothy is excited to announce a new opportunity to enhance worshipers’ experience during this joyous season. Recognizing the parking challenges on busy church days, we are proud to introduce a convenient solution: a golf cart service to assist worshipers parking in the church lots or along either side of Lincoln Avenue. Please do not park any further west than 6th Street.

One of the golf carts on Sunday will be a loaner, driven by Louie Wilburs. We also thank Louie for loaning his cart as a second vehicle for Easter Sunday. We are committed to enhancing the worship experience for our congregation and guests as well as providing a vehicle for staff to transport supplies to and from outdoor storage facilities rather then using their personal vehicles.

Easter Photo Op Courtesy of Gather Commission
Join us Sunday for a unique opportunity to capture cherished memories with your loved ones! Our Easter photo op promises to add an extra layer of joy and celebration to your day as we commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Photo Op will be available before the first service and after the second service. Praise God!
Whether you’re attending our Contemporary or Traditional service, be sure to swing by our photo op area and strike a pose! Share your photos on social media, using our designated hashtag to spread the Easter joy with friends and family near and far. #TLCEaster

Thank you to all the generous donations. Each group is truly blessed.

OASIS Easter Event a Success
Chilly weather did not deter approximately 200 people from enjoying the Easter event at Timothy last Saturday. After filling their bellies with a delicious breakfast of pancakes, eggs, & sausage cooked by Timothy’s Festival Committee, families of all ages enjoyed a traditional egg hunt for the little ones and Capture the Egg for the not-so-little ones. Thank you to the Festival Committee for providing this free breakfast and to all those who donated candy for the “hunts.” Rumor has it that it will be wise to mark your calendars next year for an even bigger event??

Coffee Fundraiser – TLS PTL

Timothy Lutheran School PTL is offering a fundraiser again through Giving Bean, selling bags of coffee and tea! Coffee will be served from this company on April 14th and 21st before both services..

Visit by LBT Pastor Mendedo

Timothy welcomes Pastor Tilahun Mendendo of Lutheran Bible Translators on Sunday, May 5, to preach in both services. Please join us! LBT is one of Timothy’s tithe organizations, and we appreciate his visit to learn more about LBT. On Saturday, May 4, the congregation & friends are also invited to attend a 60th anniversary celebration for LBT in Oak Grove (see details in graphic). Please note that this event is not a fundraiser.  We praise God that Timothy supports LBT in its efforts to translate the Bible into many languages.

Organizations Grateful for Timothy’s Tithes

Thank you, Timothy, for continuing to support our commitment to tithing 10% of all general contributions to various local, regional, and international organizations. Below are excerpts from letters received recently. Watch for more thank-you’s next week!

  1. From The Apple of His Eye Mission Society:  “It is hard to believe that the war in Israel continues after the attack took place on October 7, 2023, the same day our firstborn, Micha, went to be with the Lord following a 12-year battle with Huntington’s Disease. The challenges in Israel have opened doors of cooperation and communication among many Israelis and Messianic believers, leading to numerous witnessing conversations about Y’shua….Our ministry is now in its 28th year, and we move forward because many caring, praying friends like you give us a vote of confidence through your sacrificial mission support. Thank you so much on behalf of all of us at The Apple of His Eye! Your co-laborer in Christ, Steve Cohen, Founder”
  2. From Community Services League:  “Thank you for your recent gift to CSL. Your support allows us to maintain neighborhood-based social services that are accessible and helpful to families. Just two of our accomplishments the past year that your generosity helped support is the assistance to more than 20,000 individuals in need and provision of tuition-free job training for more than 200 people, with 80% of them moving onto jobs that doubled their household income. Thank you for your continued support. Jennifer Hurst, Chief Development Officer”
  3. From Mission Central, Serving the Lord Jesus & Representing The Office of National & International Missions of LCMS:  “It is such a blessing to hear from you and receive your gift of love for the mission work of our dear Lord Jesus! Your gift is helping to make baptisms happen around the world by our dear missionaries. Sharing the wonderful sacrament of baptism with people in total darkness is such a special blessing, knowing that we will see these people with us in our real home in heaven. Thank you! Your Co-workers for our Savior, Gary & Maxine Thiess”
  4. From POLBO International Ministries:  “Thank you for your generous donation to POBLO International! Your financial partnership is a great blessing an allows us to continue meeting the physical, social, and spiritual needs of Muslims and other immigrants and refugees in the United States by sharing the love of Jesus with them in practical and relevant ways. Rev. Farrukh Khan, Development Director”
  5. From Mother’s Refuge:  “Thank you for supporting Mother’s Refuge. Your gift will enable us to continue our mission of helping homeless, pregnant young moms and their babies. Your compassion does not go unnoticed. Thanks to your generosity and the generosity of others, Mother’s Refuge has provided a loving home and services for more than 2,100 young moms and babies since 1987. We currently have a full Maternity Home and Transitional Living Program with 14 moms & 18 children. Your support allows us to wrap around these families. Together, we are making a positive impact in the lives of those most vulnerable in our community. With gratitude, Angel McDonald, Executive Director”
  6. From Hillcrest Transitional Housing:  “Thank you so much for supporting Hillcrest. When organizations sponsor a Hillcrest apartment as Timothy does, we are able to provide families with stability, warmth, and security–A HOME. They’re saving money, learning budgeting and life skills, and working so hard to reach self-sufficiency. Hillcrest walks with them every step of the way. Your support makes this possible. Thank you! Barbara Fitzgerald, Vice President of Development”

As We Gather for Worship This Weekend

“Trouble All Around

Setbacks are an inevitable part of life, but they can be incredibly demoralizing, especially when they are caused by others. As we examine God’s people attempting to get back on track, we can observe that some of the most destructive trouble to the people comes from within their own community. So, how do we deal with it?

Devotion: How to Find Strength in Surrender

“I DO IT!” Toddlers love declaring their independence as they navigate the world. I’ll admit, I’ve caught myself echoing that sentiment more times than I can count – as an adult. Something is appealing about the idea of doing things on our terms and proving our capabilities to the world.
It’s a lesson that echoes throughout the pages of Scripture. Take the story of Abraham — a man whose faith defied logic and who chose to hope against hope in the face of impossibility. Abraham’s hope wasn’t rooted in his accomplishments but in God’s promise.
Romans 4:13 It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
God didn’t work in Abraham’s life because Abraham had proven himself perfect and capable, solid and without need for help. Perhaps God worked in Abraham’s life specifically because it didn’t make sense – because God does what God does with open arms that invite us in. And that is grace.
Imagine waking up in the morning and embracing a reality where our worth isn’t hinged on what we can (or can’t) do but on whom God is — a life where we find comfort in a loving Creator who journeys alongside us, catching us with the open arms of grace.
Imagine a life where your “I DO IT!” is replaced with the loving whisper of God saying, “I will do it alongside you.”

Discovery Class

Are you searching for a connection that transcends the everyday, a love that surpasses all understanding? If so, then our Discovery Class is for you.

Lent 2024

Please join your brothers and sisters in Christ on  Wednesdays during Lent in the Auditorium for Dining with Jesus meals (6-6:30pm) followed by family-oriented interactions (6:30-7pm) for worship, fellowship, and a snippet of what Jesus has for us.

Why around a table? Because that’s where Jesus often did His most important ministry. As a matter of fact, throughout Scriptures, we see meals being a beautiful place where God does some amazing stuff. So we are going to dive into the Gospel of Luke where we will find Jesus not only sitting with those who loved Him but also with those who hated Him. We will hear some powerful red letter words, and we will wrestle with what it means to be sustained by God’s Word. This series will carry us through Lent, Holy Week, and Resurrection Sunday.

  • Mar. 13, 6pm:  Provided by GATHER Commission (menu: pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, juice, & water); freewill offering to support upgrades to the gathering area in the 4G’s
  • Mar. 20, 6pm: Provided by TLS 7th & 8th (menu: pasta bake, salad, rolls and dessert); freewill offering to support 2024 spring class trip

Please be aware that entering through the west doors and parking lot is not available until 6pm due to TLS AfterCare.

RESTORE

It seems like every time we blink, something is changing at Timothy lately. Not only that, but there is a lot of hurt, loss, concern, and grief stirring within many of us. And we are left in a heap of confusion. Let’s be honest—there are those who are disgruntled, those who are saddened, those who have stopped supporting ministry at Timothy, and those who are thinking about leaving. So what do men and women of faith do? We turn towards the God who loves and cares for us. We turn toward the one who promises renewal and restoration. That’s what we will do together through March 24th. We will tune into the books of Ezra and Nehemiah to be reminded that we worship a God who restores His people in the midst of their confusion, chaos, and grief. We will also ask the Lord to restore us: restore our hope, restore our focus, restore maybe even our faith. We invite you to join us and even come prepared! Here’s a suggested reading plan for our season of Lent:

  • Prior to Sunday:  Ezra 4:21-5:2 & Nehemiah 4:10-15, 5:1-12, & Nehemiah 6:10-14
  • Prior to March 17: Nehemiah 8:9-18

Timothy Lutheran School Auction

Saturday, February 24, was a night that made history. Timothy Lutheran School held its annual auction at Adams Pointe Conference Center. It was a masquerade ball with the theme “A Night in Disguise”, but there was no disguising that every guest came to support the scholarship fund.
The annual event had a record-breaking number of tickets sold, just topping 200, with a record-breaking over $40,000 for the TLS scholarship fund. This amazing amount will help so many students get the Christian education they so very much want, need, and crave.
A giant THANK YOU to everyone who donated items, services, sponsorships, attended, and bid. This event would not have reached its success without all of you!
Give the Glory to God!
