On Mission with Jesus

Acts offers more than history; it reflects the Spirit's ongoing work within the church. We'll examine how early  believers faced challenges, built community, and boldly shared the gospel—experiences relevant to us today.

With a dedicated reading plan, we’ll explore the stories of Peter, Paul, and others, learning how the Holy Spirit empowered them and how He can empower us. We’ll find practical ways to apply these lessons to our lives and become effective witnesses for Christ.

Follow along with our sermon series and weekly Prepare for Worship emails for reading assignments. Let’s be inspired by the early church's courage and faith and ignite a fresh wave of God’s Kingdom.

This week’s reading: Chapter 17-18

The Book of Acts details the early church's dynamic growth, showcasing ordinary people doing extraordinary things through the Holy Spirit. Over 13 weeks, we'll see the birth of a movement that reshaped the world.

Upside Down Reformation

We live in a world that shudders at the thought of being turned upside down. Yet, on this Reformation Sunday, we celebrate a Gospel that did just that. A Message so radical, so counter-cultural, that it shook the world to its core. But let's be honest: the upside-down Kingdom of God isn't always welcomed with open arms. It challenges our comfort, our traditions, and even our understanding of God. Join us as we explore the power of a message that defies expectations. Let's rediscover the revolutionary love of Christ and the courage to share it with a world in desperate need of transformation. Are you ready to embrace the upside-down and experience the life-changing power of the Gospel?
This weekend welcome Guest Pastor Thomas Lange. Pastor Ryan will be leading service.

Call Committee Update

Timothy's Call Committee has been praying diligently for God's guidance in the divine call process, studying candidates' profiles, interviewing candidates, and discussing for hours and hours to discern the gentleman He has already chosen as Timothy's next senior pastor. The committee requests your continued, fervent prayers as the process enters its final stages to present candidates for Voters' Assembly approval within the coming weeks. To God be the glory, and may His will be done. Thank you!

Staff Highlight This Week

In a world where instant gratification often takes center stage, Mrs. Melissa Hochgrebe shines as a model of dedication, showing that true success comes through perseverance and commitment. Her students and colleagues benefit greatly from these qualities. Fellow teachers describe her as "a hardworking preschool teacher, deeply devoted to her students, their families, our school, and Timothy Lutheran Church." Melissa’s care, patience, knowledge, dedication, compassion, and inspiration go far beyond teaching; she is genuinely touching lives for Jesus, as is evident in everything she does.

TLS students also express their admiration, saying: “She is kind and always plans fun activities for us,” “She loves us no matter what,” “She’s nice,” and “She’s funny—in a good way.”

As a school leader, Mr. Holland deeply appreciates Mrs. Hochgrebe’s commitment to the ministry. Her steadfast faith calls to mind 1 Corinthians 15:58: "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." This verse beautifully reflects Melissa’s enduring love for the Timothy Lutheran School Ministry.

Fall Generosity Emphasis

This fall, Timothy’s GIVE Commission is implementing an emphasis to promote Biblical generosity to “fuel” our ministry efforts moving into 2025. During the offering this Sunday, an introductory video will kick off our Fall Generosity Emphasis. Next Sunday, November 3rd, a pledge card inside a plain white envelope will be given to each family unit for its personal prayerful consideration about serving in and funding Timothy’s ministries. The same information will be emailed to families on Monday, Nov. 4. On Nov. 17, 24, & Dec. 1, families will return their 2025 response inside the sealed envelope in the offering plate as a promise between them and their Lord. While the envelopes will be collected, they will not be opened for budgetary or other purposes. The sealed envelope will be returned to the families a year from now for reflection upon their 2025 response to God’s goodness and blessings.  We praise God for walking with us on His mission with love, grace, and unlimited generosity. Please pray how you can support Timothy’s growing ministries in 2025, not only through valuable volunteerism of time and talents, but also through a personal financial promise to do all we can to serve and honor Him. Thank you!

Conflict Control

Conflict. It's an ugly word, but a familiar reality. Even within the walls of the church, disagreements and divisions can arise. It's in these moments that we're truly tested. How do we respond when faced with those who differ from us? Can we maintain unity in the midst of conflict? Acts 15 offers a blueprint for navigating these stormy waters. It's a story of grace, wisdom, and unity. Let's explore together how to apply these timeless principles to our lives today. Join us as we delve into the Word and discover how to foster reconciliation, build bridges, and create a space where everyone feels welcomed and loved.

Importantly, Heit's Point Lutheran Ministries is also one of the tithes of Timothy Lutheran Ministries, reflecting a strong partnership in service to the community.

Heit's Point invites everyone to pray about contributing to this vital project. Each donation brings them closer to a fully operational Spitz Center, essential for hosting events and programs that benefit the community. Together, they can make a lasting difference. On the Mission with Jesus

This week’s reading: Chapter 14

The Book of Acts details the early church's dynamic growth, showcasing ordinary people doing extraordinary things through the Holy Spirit. Over 13 weeks, we'll see the birth of a movement that reshaped the world.

Fall Generosity Emphasis

We praise God for his steadfast love and grace as He walks beside us to transform lives through Christ. As we walk with Jesus on His mission, we pray the Holy Spirit will open more and more doors for us to offer our time, talents, and resources to share His love. We have so much to be thankful for, both within our personal families and our church family, and we pray our generous response within and through both will further His kingdom near and far.
As we draw closer to the new year, Timothy's GIVE Commission urges the congregation to respond to God's generosity with hearts full of gratitude. Biblical generosity is our response to God's abundant blessings. As the ultimate Giver, He invites us to reflect His love by generously giving as He has generously given to us. In the upcoming weeks, you will learn more about the goals of Timothy's Fall Generosity Emphasis. Please pray how you can support Timothy's growing ministries in 2025, not only through volunteerism of time and talents, but also through a personal financial pledge to do all we can to serve and honor Him. To God Be All the Glory!

This Week's Staff Highlight

Psalm 96 invites us to “Sing to the Lord a new song,” a spirit embodied by our Vocal Music teacher, Beckie Hatcher, at Timothy Lutheran School. Her dual role in teaching second grade and music education makes a profound impact.
Colleagues praise her for her dedication and love for music, noting how her programs reflect the love of Christ and inspire service. "As Principal, I value Mrs. Hatcher’s energy and innovative approach to sharing God’s word through music. She leads our Christmas and Spring programs, tirelessly preparing students to showcase their talents." per Principal Ken Holland. Through her guidance, students learn to express their gifts and uplift others in praise and prayer.
Thank you, Mrs. Hatcher, for filling our hallways with the joyful sounds of children’s voices. Your expertise and positivity are truly appreciated!

Celebrating Generosity at Timothy

God has done (and continues to do) marvelous things at Timothy! He guides His people through important ministries as we celebrate worshiping and serving under one roof, perhaps none greater than walking alongside Timothy’s senior pastor call process. OASIS, the Wednesday evening children and family ministry program, offers children, teens, and parents the opportunity to grow in their faith. Timothy Lutheran School continues to provide a strong Christian presence for children and their families. “The Center,” a new young adult ministry at Timothy, is in its formative stages. LWML, Women of Hope, and JourneyMen continue to reach many longing to embrace and deepen their relationship with Jesus and other Christians. An additional Sunday morning Adult Bible Class starts on October 6 as another opportunity to dig into God’s Word. Timothy’s Discovery Class is once again active in bringing in new members. While the transition to one campus has affected us all, God sends the Holy Spirit to remind us that our generosity towards others will refresh us!

This fall, Timothy’s GIVE Commission will promote a generosity emphasis to educate the congregation about the financial resources needed to transform lives through Christ through its thriving ministries. While time and talents are equally important, our treasures (finances) are also necessary to support bringing us and the unchurched closer to Christ. More to follow soon. Please prayerfully consider how your generosity can impact Timothy’s mission of transforming lives through Christ in 2025 and beyond.

Round one interviews are complete, with second round interviews to be scheduled during the first three weeks of October, depending upon candidates' availability. Due to circumstances we also have a pastor who was just able to schedule his first interview. This will be scheduled in such a way that it will not slow down our process as we will continue with second interviews. Please continue to keep this divine call process in your prayers as we discern God's Will in finding the man He has already chosen as Timothy's next senior pastor.

On Mission with Jesus

The Book of Acts details the early church's dynamic growth, showcasing ordinary people doing extraordinary things through the Holy Spirit. Over 13 weeks, we'll see the birth of a movement that reshaped the world.

This week’s reading: Chapters 9-10.

Together

Mission impossible? Not for us! While the task of reaching the world with the Gospel might seem overwhelming, remember, we're not in this alone. The enemy loves to isolate us, making us feel small and insignificant. But the truth is, we are a powerful, united body with Christ as our head. Let's come together to encourage, challenge, and equip one another for the mission. Together, we can overcome any obstacle, reach new heights, and make a lasting impact. Are you ready to experience the incredible power of unity in Christ? Join us and let's embark on this journey together.

Timmy Burger Thank You

A BIG thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the Steakburger booth a success this year.  We weathered excessive heat, shelter-in-place storms, and cool rainy weather.  Over 200 volunteers made this event go smoothly: members, past members, future members, family, and friends.  We had several new volunteers and lots of seasoned veterans - they ranged from 4 years old to a little bit older than that.  Everyone worked together to feed and witness to our community.   A special thank you to everyone who worked multiple shifts and all of the heavy lifters at set up and tear down.  We were able to sell some of the leftover cheese and meat as well as donate the rest to shelters in the area.   It truly takes a team effort to make this such a success each year.

Unplanned Plans Prosper

"Go and make disciples of all nations." A simple command, a world-changing mission. It's easy to stay within our comfort zones, surrounded by familiar faces and shared experiences. But Jesus calls us to something bigger, bolder. He's pushing us beyond our borders, challenging us to step out into the unknown. It might feel uncomfortable, but it's where the real adventure begins. Let's explore together how to break free from our comfort zones and embrace the mission God has for us. Are you ready to answer the call and become a disciple-maker?

Timothy Ladies Book Club

After taking a summer break, the ladies in Timothy's Book Club resumed with a September meeting to discuss The Wind Knows My Name.  Numerous thoughts and ideas were combined after reading a story that covers eight decades of a person's life as he leaves Nazi-occupied Austria at 5 years old to eventually live as an adult in America.  You can only imagine the "wisdom" expressed by these loving mothers as they shared their views on a story about family and home, sacrifices of parents, danger and dreams.  If you are interested in joining the Book Club, please contact Barb Kalbfleisch, 816-807-7575.

Ready to Serve

This year LWML will recognize Lutheran Women in Mission on Sunday, October 6, with the theme "Ready to Serve" (Luke 1:38).  As redeemed children of God, Lutheran Women in Mission give thanks for the opportunity to serve others as we have been served, to proclaim that Jesus is our Lord, and that He came for all nations, as we respond with our mite offerings supporting God's mission throughout the world.  The widow and her mites are an example.  Her offering she made was observed by our Lord, leading Him to share that her two small copper coins, her mites, were "everything she had, all she had to live on" (Mark 12:43).   May our mite offerings be blessed for our Lord's Kingdom.

Hillcrest's 2024 Recap

Hillcrest's 24th Annual Gala was their largest fundraising success in Hillcrest history - all because of the communities unwavering support, whose generosity enabled Hillcrest to raise over $940,000 for their housing programs. There is a a special focus on their Youth Program this year, because of a 48% increase in the number of youth applicants from 2022 to 2023. The generous support and the support shown at this year's gala enables Hillcrest to face the growing needs of their communities. Eight people from Timothy were able to attend this event this year. Daryl and Becky Fowler are pictured to the right. Timothy Lutheran continues to support Hillcrest as one of our outreach ministries.

Adopt-A-Mower: A Heartfelt Thank You!

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news with you! Thanks to your incredible generosity, we have received all the funds needed to purchase not just one, but two new mowers for our grounds.

We initially set out to replace our current mower and had planned to include the cost of a second mower in next year's budget. However, your overwhelming support has allowed us to accelerate this process and secure both mowers now. This is a game-changer for us, given the extensive land we maintain.

Your contributions have made a significant impact, and we are immensely grateful for your support. With these new mowers, we’ll be better equipped to keep our grounds in top condition, ensuring that Timothy Lutheran Ministries remains welcoming and beautiful for all.

Thank you once again for your unwavering generosity and for helping us achieve this important goal. Your support truly makes a difference!

Frightened to Fearless

From fearful to fearless. That's quite a leap, isn't it? The disciples were no strangers to doubt and panic. Yet, something radical happened to transform them into bold witnesses. What was it that ignited such a dramatic change? Was it courage, conviction, or something else entirely? Let's explore this together. Join us as we delve into the lives of these ordinary men who became extraordinary disciples. Let's uncover the secret to overcoming fear and embracing a life of faith and boldness. Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone and into the extraordinary?

On Mission with Jesus

The Book of Acts details the early church's dynamic growth, showcasing ordinary people doing extraordinary things through the Holy Spirit. Over 13 weeks, we'll see the birth of a movement that reshaped the world.

This week’s reading: Chapters 3-4.

Adopt A Mower: Help Us Replace Our Lawn Mower: A Heartfelt Thank You!

We have some fantastic news to share! Thanks to your incredible generosity, we’ve raised $8,640 for our lawn mower fund. We are truly grateful for your support.

Initially, we urgently needed to replace our current mower. While we had planned to include the cost of a second mower in next year’s budget, given the extensive land we maintain, your generous contributions have enabled us to expedite both the immediate replacement and the purchase of a second mower.

With these donations, we are well-positioned to buy one new mower. If we can raise an additional $2,960, we’ll be able to secure the second mower as well. This would greatly enhance our ability to maintain our grounds beautifully and keep them welcoming.

Thank you once again for your unwavering support. Your contributions are making a real difference in keeping Timothy Lutheran Ministries looking its best!

UnHoly Incomplete

Can you believe it? Jesus died, rose, and now...He's leaving again? That's right. But don't worry, His mission isn't over. It's being passed on to us, His Church. The problem? We're far from perfect. So how does a God of love transform a bunch of misfits into world-changers? Join us as we explore this incredible mystery. Let's worship together, be challenged, and discover how God's grace can equip us to be His hands and feet in the world. Are you ready to answer the call?

On Mission with Jesus

On Mission with Jesus: A Journey Through the Book of Acts

The Book of Acts is a thrilling chronicle of the early church's explosive growth. It's a story of ordinary people empowered by the Holy Spirit to do extraordinary things. As we embark on this 13-week journey through Acts, we'll witness the birth of a movement that would change the world.

But Acts isn't just history; it's a picture of how the Spirit has worked within the church then and now. We'll  see how the early believers faced challenges, built community, and shared the gospel with boldness. These same challenges and opportunities exist for us today.

By following a dedicated reading plan, we'll delve deeper into the inspiring narratives of Peter, Paul, and countless others. We'll explore how the Holy Spirit equipped them and how He can empower us. As we journey together, we'll discover practical ways to apply these ancient truths to our lives and become more effective witnesses in transforming lives through Christ.

To enhance your experience, we encourage you to read through the Book of Acts alongside our sermon series. Each week, we'll provide specific reading assignments in our weekly Prepare for Worship email to guide your study.

Let's be inspired by the courage and faith of these pioneers. Together, we can ignite a fresh wave of God's Kingdom on earth. Are you ready to step into your role in this epic story? The series begins on Sunday, September 1.

Reading for this week: Chapters 1-2.

Staff Highlight Corner

Per Ken Holland, "Taking a moment to reflect on how blessed we are to have such a supportive community embracing Timothy Lutheran School is an enjoyable pause in my day. While I have collectively raised up our teaching staff, I would like to introduce you to the first teacher I hired at Timothy Lutheran School: Kelly Butz. Kelly is one of our Early Childhood Preschool Teachers."

Kelly is a beloved colleague and teacher. Her colleagues describe her as, “…a kind, giving and patient teacher.” “She automatically makes each child feel like he or she is the most important person in the room.” “She truly is a good listener.”

Thank you, Kelly Butz, for being the colleague, educator, and friend that you are. Timothy Lutheran School is proud to call you one of our own!

Call Committee Update

Timothy’s Call Committee met on Aug. 27. The final draft of the new Senior Pastor position description was approved and referred to the Executive Board for its review and to the Board of Executive Elders for its approval. Prior to the meeting, Call Committee members individually ranked the 15 candidates and submitted their rankings for a composite score of all rankings. From that process, the Committee selected its top six candidates to interview soon, based on solidarity and clear choice to meet Timothy’s needs. Virtual interviews are scheduled to start the week of Sept. 9, depending upon candidates’ availability.  The next Call Committee meeting will be Sept. 3 to summarize and organize interview questions to meet Timothy’s needs as derived from the recent congregational survey as well as the candidates’ experiences and qualifications.

Please continue to keep the Call Committee and call process in your prayers as we seek to find the man God has already chosen as Timothy’s next senior pastor. Thank you!

Church Worker Tithe Thank You

Dear Timothy Lutheran Church,

This past semester, I completed my first systematic theology class as part of my theological training, focusing on God's character and creation. I must admit that my previous understanding of God’s character often led to abstract and unhelpful thoughts. This class really opened my eyes to a deeper level of understanding. Next, I will be moving on to Systematic Theology 2, where I will delve deeper into the study of Christ and the Church. I am excited to continue this journey and am deeply grateful for your ongoing financial support.

In Him,
Meg B

Kurt’s last Sunday with us will be September 1st
We pray God’s Blessings upon them as they begin this new journey!

LWML Society Meeting Success

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Jessy and Thomas visited Timothy's LWML Society meeting last weekend.  The trained Golden Retrievers, members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia, serve as ambassadors for Christ with their calming nature and skills as they interact with humans in need.  It was a joy to have these loving animals share their morning with the group and help us understand how their mannerisms and compassion are able to bring relief, some joy, and love to those who are hurting from disasters, crises, or illness/death of a loved one in our communities.

One More Walk

Jerusalem brought our walk with our Lord to an end in many ways. As Jesus was crucified, He died and was buried. But we know the Easter story and the powerful Resurrection that followed. And with that Resurrection, Jesus takes one more significant walk in the gospel of Luke. It's a walk where He reminds, recalls, and reteaches all that He's already given so that when the day draws near, and He ascends, we can be confident as we move forward into the mission He's given.

Staff Highlight Corner

A Fresh Start at Timothy Lutheran School

Timothy Lutheran School began the new academic year with enthusiasm, highlighted by its cherished opening chapel service. The day brimmed with excitement and set an optimistic tone for the year ahead.

The chapel service centered on Hebrews 12:1-3, which calls for perseverance and a focus on Jesus as the "pioneer and perfecter of faith."

As classrooms buzzed with new routines and the school grounds echoed with laughter and conversation, the first day at Timothy Lutheran School set a hopeful and purposeful tone. The day reaffirmed the school’s commitment to nurturing both the academic and spiritual growth of its students. Here’s to a year of discovery, growth, and faith for the Timothy Lutheran School community!

This year Timothy Lutheran School has 41 preschoolers, 115 K-8th grade and 5 homeschoolers.

Property Board Update

We’re sure you’ve noticed, but Timothy is moving dirt for the new storage building! While rains this week have resulted in a week behind schedule, the building pad and base materials are in place and ready for footings. Our contractor believes this time can be made up with the following schedule adjustments:

  • concrete pours from Aug. 22-Sept. 16
  • building erection during week of Oct. 7th
  • plant trees this fall by Timothy’s Property Board and senior high youth attending 2025 NYG
  • transfer all church property from storage containers and offsite storage in early Nov.; volunteer workdays to be scheduled
  • sell storage containers after first of the year

Thank you for supporting this project and keeping it in your prayers! To God Be the Glory!

We are looking forward to seeing all Timothy ladies at the Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) meeting tomorrow morning beginning at 10 am in the 4G's Area and Auditorium.  Special guest Renee Ravanelli with the Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) Comfort Dogs will have a faithful Golden Retriever companion with her to share information about this special ministry.  Please join us as we listen to her heartfelt explanation of the valuable way God uses these loving animals.  A short meeting and picnic lunch will follow.  No reservations are required.  Contact LWML President Kim Duffy (913-488-7677) if questions arise.

Volunteer Opportunity

Timothy’s leadership is seeking individuals to serve on the Nominating Committee from Sept. 1 through Nov. 24 to fill open positions on the Executive Board, Commission Leaders, and Board of Elected Elders for the upcoming biennium (Jan. 1, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2026).
