First Reading: Ephesians 1:3-10 Gospel Reading: John 15:9-17
Most child-sponsorship experiences begin with an adult looking through photographs and deciding which child to sponsor. World Vision’s Chosen turns that familiar pattern around: adults offer their photographs, and a child in a partner community is given the opportunity to choose a sponsor. That reversal is meaningful because poverty so often takes ordinary choices away from children. Yet the sermon cannot stop with an innovative sponsorship model. The deeper Gospel truth is that before we chose Christ, God chose us in Christ. We were not selected because we were impressive, useful, or deserving. We were chosen by grace, redeemed through Jesus’ blood, and adopted into God’s family. That creates a searching tension. Being chosen can become a moment that makes us feel special, or it can become a grace-filled calling to see and love someone else. Christian mission can unintentionally treat vulnerable children as projects, statistics, or distant recipients of our generosity. Jesus sees people differently. He sees names, faces, gifts, dignity, and futures. Chosen places a measure of agency back into a child’s hands and invites the sponsor to enter a relationship marked by humility, prayer, faithfulness, and love. The emphasis is not that we arrive as heroes, but that forgiven people become instruments through whom Christ’s compassion is made visible. For Timothy, this guest Sunday belongs within the vision of Transforming Lives through Christ. Christ transforms us from observers into neighbors and from consumers of ministry into people willing to be sent. The central question is not simply, “Which child might I choose?” It is, “Because Christ has chosen me and called me His own, where is He now sending His love through me?” |

Today take time to pause as Timothy Lutheran Church and School to remember the events of September 11, 2001, and lift up our nation in prayer. As we reflect on this day, we give thanks for the courage and sacrifice of first responders, military personnel, and all who served during times of tragedy and uncertainty. We also remember those who lost loved ones and continue to carry the memories of that day in their hearts. Through prayer, we place our trust in God, who remains our source of strength, comfort, and hope. As a Timothy family, we ask for His continued guidance, protection, and peace for our community, our nation, and the world.
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Psalm 46:1 May we always remember, pray, and place our hope in the Lord. |

The Hillcrest Gala was an unforgettable evening filled with great food, outstanding music from a talented live band, and inspiring stories of lives transformed. Guests heard powerful testimonies from individuals who have successfully moved from homelessness to stable housing and renewed independence. Their journeys served as a reminder of the life-changing impact of Hillcrest's ministry and the generosity of those who support its mission. It was a wonderful celebration of hope, resilience, and the opportunity for a brighter future. |

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and willing to provide a safe, caring environment for our little ones while parents attend church programs and small groups. On Wednesday, September 9, Timothy Lutheran Church and School kicked off the first Oasis gathering of the season with a tremendous turnout of 125 attendees.
The evening brought together members of all ages for a time of fellowship, a shared meal, and spiritual growth. Participants gathered around God's Word as they explored the theme "God Calls Us" from 1 Samuel 3:1-14. Through the story of young Samuel hearing and responding to God's call, attendees were reminded of the importance of listening to the Lord and faithfully following His direction in our daily lives.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening a success. We look forward to many more opportunities this year to gather as a Timothy family, grow in faith, and encourage one another as we remain Rooted in Christ.

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Connect 55+, 2000 NE Coronado Dr., Blue Springs, MO 64014. Whether you're an avid reader or simply enjoy good conversation, we would love to have you join us. This week, seven new lunch tables were delivered to Timothy Lutheran Church and School, providing an important addition to our ministry and fellowship spaces.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Fall Fun Festival Committee (Timmy Burger team) for making this purchase possible. Their dedication and hard work throughout the year continue to bless our church and school community in countless ways.
These new tables will serve students during lunch, support fellowship gatherings, and provide seating for many church, school, and community events for years to come. This investment reflects the committee's commitment to creating welcoming spaces where relationships can grow and our Timothy family can gather together. |

A few months ago, we invited volunteers to help with this ministry, but unfortunately, we did not receive any responses. We are reaching out again because we truly need additional help if we are to continue providing these meaningful gifts to our newest members. The good news is that you do not need to be an expert woodworker to get involved. The member who currently builds these chests is willing to teach and mentor someone who would like to learn the process. If you have basic woodworking tools and a willingness to serve, this could be a wonderful opportunity to use your gifts to bless young families in our congregation. This ministry has been a treasured part of welcoming children into God's family, but it cannot continue without additional volunteers. We are at a point where we need others to step forward and learn this process so that future baptized children can continue receiving these special gifts. If you are interested in helping, having questions, or would like to learn more about what is involved, please reach out. We'd love to connect with you and show you how you can be a part of this meaningful ministry. Thank you for considering how you might help us continue sharing this special baptismal blessing with the children and families of our congregation. Every helping hand truly makes a difference. |

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) invites you to participate in LUMAA's September meeting at Peace Lutheran Church, KCMO, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Registration begins at 9am with the Opening Service scheduled for 9:30am. If you are not a member of LWML but would like to attend the meeting and see what many activities the group performs in the Metro Kansas City area, you are welcome to join us. The Program presentation will be given by Carla Hamilton, Director of Grow in Peace Day Care, with songs by children attending the daycare. If you would like to stay for lunch after the meeting, please contact Lois Kuecker at 816-868-5500, by Sunday, September 13, so reservations can be made. Family-sized hygiene products and cleaning supplies (e.g., paper towels, TP, laundry soap, dish or bar soap, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes) are the items chosen to be collected in September and given to struggling families. A collection container is available in our church lobby to hold donated items. All Timothy members are welcome to assist in this drive. |

Throughout the month of September, Timothy Lutheran Church and School will be collecting donations for the Community Services League. We invite all members and friends of our congregation to participate by donating needed items to support individuals and families in our community.
