A Ghost Don’t Eat Toast – Easter Sunday

It’s been a journey this Lent, sharing a table with Jesus, learning from Jesus, watching Jesus. That seemingly came to an end for the disciples though when Jesus’ lifeless body was laid in a tomb, but on this day, this Resurrection Sunday, we know that our Redeemer Lives! We celebrate that Christ has risen from the grave. And You know what we find this risen Lord doing? Sharing meals! So before we sit around the table with family today let us encounter this risen and hungry Lord.

When It Feels Like You’re Wilting

The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courts of our God. Psalm 92:12-13

These past few weeks, I haven’t been taking as much time reading my Bible. I see it sitting next to my chair, but I am just so busy right now. I have a list of reasons, and all of those reasons are legitimate. But without any time spent with Jesus, all of those reasons are slowly emptying me. A few days ago, as I was sitting on my bed, I told Jesus, “I feel like I’m withering like I’m shriveling right up.” If I were a flower, it would be a wilted one.
Jesus is the real source, the One who takes our shriveled-up selves and breathes life into us, allowing us to slowly, slowly begin to work our way from wilted flowers to people who can flourish — Without Him, we are empty. Only when we lay ourselves down, when we give Him our worries and fears and anxieties can we finally be full.

So join me on a return journey, praying and reading our Bibles. So we are a people, no longer wilting. Our circumstances may remain the same, but our roots can vastly change. Jesus: the Rock who is the One who can forever sustain us.

Celebrating Easter at Timothy

As you enter the auditorium this Sunday, you’ll notice the long Easter banners hanging on the walls on either side of the stage. Thanks to Don and Gary for completing this process.Timothy is excited to announce a new opportunity to enhance worshipers’ experience during this joyous season. Recognizing the parking challenges on busy church days, we are proud to introduce a convenient solution: a golf cart service to assist worshipers parking in the church lots or along either side of Lincoln Avenue. Please do not park any further west than 6th Street.

One of the golf carts on Sunday will be a loaner, driven by Louie Wilburs. We also thank Louie for loaning his cart as a second vehicle for Easter Sunday. We are committed to enhancing the worship experience for our congregation and guests as well as providing a vehicle for staff to transport supplies to and from outdoor storage facilities rather then using their personal vehicles.

Easter Photo Op Courtesy of Gather Commission
Join us Sunday for a unique opportunity to capture cherished memories with your loved ones! Our Easter photo op promises to add an extra layer of joy and celebration to your day as we commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Photo Op will be available before the first service and after the second service. Praise God!
Whether you’re attending our Contemporary or Traditional service, be sure to swing by our photo op area and strike a pose! Share your photos on social media, using our designated hashtag to spread the Easter joy with friends and family near and far. #TLCEaster

The act of dining with Jesus during Lent served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community and fellowship in the Christian journey. We here at Timothy Lutheran are blessed with the amazing number of people that came to the table. What a blessing everyone was to all of the groups serving the amazing meals. Thank you to all the generous donations. Each group is truly blessed.

OASIS Easter Event a Success
Chilly weather did not deter approximately 200 people from enjoying the Easter event at Timothy last Saturday. After filling their bellies with a delicious breakfast of pancakes, eggs, & sausage cooked by Timothy’s Festival Committee, families of all ages enjoyed a traditional egg hunt for the little ones and Capture the Egg for the not-so-little ones. Thank you to the Festival Committee for providing this free breakfast and to all those who donated candy for the “hunts.” Rumor has it that it will be wise to mark your calendars next year for an even bigger event??

Timothy welcomes Pastor Tilahun Mendendo of Lutheran Bible Translators on Sunday, May 5, to preach in both services. Please join us! LBT is one of Timothy’s tithe organizations, and we appreciate his visit to learn more about LBT. On Saturday, May 4, the congregation & friends are also invited to attend a 60th anniversary celebration for LBT in Oak Grove (see details in graphic). Please note that this event is not a fundraiser.  We praise God that Timothy supports LBT in its efforts to translate the Bible into many languages.

Organizations Grateful for Timothy’s Tithes

Thank you, Timothy, for continuing to support our commitment to tithing 10% of all general contributions to various local, regional, and international organizations. Below are excerpts from letters received recently. Watch for more thank-you’s next week!

  1. From The Apple of His Eye Mission Society:  “It is hard to believe that the war in Israel continues after the attack took place on October 7, 2023, the same day our firstborn, Micha, went to be with the Lord following a 12-year battle with Huntington’s Disease. The challenges in Israel have opened doors of cooperation and communication among many Israelis and Messianic believers, leading to numerous witnessing conversations about Y’shua….Our ministry is now in its 28th year, and we move forward because many caring, praying friends like you give us a vote of confidence through your sacrificial mission support. Thank you so much on behalf of all of us at The Apple of His Eye! Your co-laborer in Christ, Steve Cohen, Founder”
  2. From Community Services League:  “Thank you for your recent gift to CSL. Your support allows us to maintain neighborhood-based social services that are accessible and helpful to families. Just two of our accomplishments the past year that your generosity helped support is the assistance to more than 20,000 individuals in need and provision of tuition-free job training for more than 200 people, with 80% of them moving onto jobs that doubled their household income. Thank you for your continued support. Jennifer Hurst, Chief Development Officer”
  3. From Mission Central, Serving the Lord Jesus & Representing The Office of National & International Missions of LCMS:  “It is such a blessing to hear from you and receive your gift of love for the mission work of our dear Lord Jesus! Your gift is helping to make baptisms happen around the world by our dear missionaries. Sharing the wonderful sacrament of baptism with people in total darkness is such a special blessing, knowing that we will see these people with us in our real home in heaven. Thank you! Your Co-workers for our Savior, Gary & Maxine Thiess”
  4. From POLBO International Ministries:  “Thank you for your generous donation to POBLO International! Your financial partnership is a great blessing an allows us to continue meeting the physical, social, and spiritual needs of Muslims and other immigrants and refugees in the United States by sharing the love of Jesus with them in practical and relevant ways. Rev. Farrukh Khan, Development Director”
  5. From Mother’s Refuge:  “Thank you for supporting Mother’s Refuge. Your gift will enable us to continue our mission of helping homeless, pregnant young moms and their babies. Your compassion does not go unnoticed. Thanks to your generosity and the generosity of others, Mother’s Refuge has provided a loving home and services for more than 2,100 young moms and babies since 1987. We currently have a full Maternity Home and Transitional Living Program with 14 moms & 18 children. Your support allows us to wrap around these families. Together, we are making a positive impact in the lives of those most vulnerable in our community. With gratitude, Angel McDonald, Executive Director”
  6. From Hillcrest Transitional Housing:  “Thank you so much for supporting Hillcrest. When organizations sponsor a Hillcrest apartment as Timothy does, we are able to provide families with stability, warmth, and security–A HOME. They’re saving money, learning budgeting and life skills, and working so hard to reach self-sufficiency. Hillcrest walks with them every step of the way. Your support makes this possible. Thank you! Barbara Fitzgerald, Vice President of Development”
