As We Gather for Worship This Weekend

“Rally Around Worship

As many Israelites make their way back to the Promised Land, the first thing we find them doing is building an altar. Within them is this deep desire to worship and be near to the Lord. However, after their sinful past will the Lord meet with them?

Devotion: “What Good Can Come of This

Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” (Timothy’s at one site?) Philip said to him, “Come and see.” John 1:46

I don’t know if you were able to attend services on February 11th , but Timothy Church had a real treat which was enhanced by our current single site for both services. Singing Saints from St Paul’s Lutheran High School blessed our worship through song, bringing an amazing energy to both worship services. We were able to utilize them at both traditional and contemporary because we worship at a single site. Yes, GOD is doing marvelous things through our current worship isn’t it wonderful to be a part of?

Lent 2024

Please join your brothers and sisters in Christ on  Wednesdays during Lent in the Auditorium for Dining with Jesus meals (6-6:30pm) followed by family-oriented interactions (6:30-7pm) for worship, fellowship, and a snippet of what Jesus has for us.

Why around a table? Because that’s where Jesus often did His most important ministry. As a matter of fact, throughout Scriptures, we see meals being a beautiful place where God does some amazing stuff. So we are going to dive into the Gospel of Luke where we will find Jesus not only sitting with those who loved Him but also with those who hated Him. We will hear some powerful red letter words, and we will wrestle with what it means to be sustained by God’s Word. This series will carry us through Lent, Holy Week, and Resurrection Sunday.

  • Feb. 28, 6pm:  Provided by Women of Thursday Bible Study (menu: ham, cheesy potatoes, green beans, desserts); freewill offering to support Timothy’s operating fund
  • Mar. 6, 6pm: Provided by TLS (menu: pizza); freewill offering to support TLS Scholarship Fund
  • Mar. 13, 6pm:  Provided by GATHER Commission (menu: pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, juice, & water); freewill offering to support upgrades to the gathering area in the 4G’s
  • Mar. 20, 6pm: Provided by TLS 7th & 8th (menu: tacos); freewill offering to support 2024 spring class trip

Please be aware that entering through the west doors and parking lot is not available until 6pm due to TLS AfterCare.

Upcoming Sermon Series

It seems like every time we blink, something is changing at Timothy lately. Not only that, but there is a lot of hurt, loss, concern, and grief stirring within many of us. And we are left in a heap of confusion. Let’s be honest—there are those who are disgruntled, those who are saddened, those who have stopped supporting ministry at Timothy, and those who are thinking about leaving. So what do men and women of faith do? We turn towards the God who loves and cares for us. We turn toward the one who promises renewal and restoration. That’s what we will do together starting this Sunday through March 24th. We will tune into the books of Ezra and Nehemiah to be reminded that we worship a God who restores His people in the midst of their confusion, chaos, and grief. We will also ask the Lord to restore us: restore our hope, restore our focus, restore maybe even our faith. We invite you to join us and even come prepared! Here’s a suggested reading plan for our season of Lent:

  • Prior to this Sunday:       Ezra Chapter 3
  • Prior to March 3:              Nehemiah Chapters 1&2
  • Prior to March 10:            Ezra 4:21-5:2 & Nehemiah 4:10-15, 5:1-12, & Nehemiah 6:10-14
  • Prior to March 17:            Nehemiah 8:9-18

Hanging Cross Has a New Home

 Appreciation for Tithe

The following letter from If Not for Grace arrived this week:
“Friends and partners in ministry at Timothy Lutheran Church,
Thank you so much for your generous support. Your donation will help us to meet the needs of women, men, and families that have been in bondage from an abortion in their lives. Our mission is to enable those impacted by abortion to live authentic, abundant lives so they can walk in freedom while serving in their God-given purpose. We thank you sincerely for your contribution toward this mission.
Jeff Edlund”

Consolidation & Other Updates

A joint leadership meeting will occur on Tues., Feb. 27, to discuss next steps in the Divine Call process to call Timothy’s next Senior Pastor, including direction from MO District President Hagan and development of a congregational survey for that purpose.

The City of Blue Springs Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Mon., Mar. 11th, concerning Timothy’s building project. The Public Hearing Sign is erected at the Wyatt Road entrance.

As the consolidation process moves forward, leadership and staff encourage members to express their One Campus Questions as well as Consolidation Success Stories.  Click here for One Campus Questions. Click here for Consolidation Success Stories.
Thank you!

Consolidation Success Story
The following Consolidation Success Story was submitted last Thursday evening after the Timothy Connects weekly deadline. Please note that two additional Success Story submissions this week contained no content. Feel free to re-submit and/or call the church office for assistance.

“I used to miss my friends who attended services at the Wyatt Campus because a 9am service seems to fit our lifestyle more often than not. But now that we have consolidated the campus, I get to run into them arriving for second service while I’m leaving the first! A couple weeks ago, I ran into a young mom whom I hadn’t seen since she compete in sports against my now grown daughters (Trinity vs. Immanuel) and we realized we’ve lived only a few blocks from each other the past five years!”

The following questions were submitted this week. The first one below came in last Friday afternoon; the second one came in Tuesday this week. Both are included even though similar.

  1. Are our retired pastors being paid to assist Pastor Ryan? Was the assistance of the elders requested before asking our retired pastors to help? Or did we just default to them? Response:  Our retired pastors are receiving some compensation, but their volunteer efforts are far greater and beyond any compensation that is being offered. We are grateful for their willingness to serve. Each offered his services before being approached. The elders are volunteering their time and talents to assist as well in areas that they are trained and available. All options have been and will continue to be considered to support Pastor Ryan. The elders, along with Pastor Ryan and retired pastors, have collaborated to fill the many ministry roles at Timothy.
  2. Please clarify what roles the two retired pastors will have, how many hours per week they are assisting, and whether they are being paid. Response:  Pastor Ryan meets regularly with Pastors Lieb and Rod to discuss ways in which they can support him and moving ministries forward. The tasks listed below are some of the areas in which they are serving:
  • Pastor Rod:  Worship planning (slides, announcements) for Sunday and Wednesday services, preaching on Sunday once monthly, funerals as appropriate, and leading upcoming Discovery Class
  • Pastor Lieb:  Weekly meetings with Care Coordinator, hospital visits, homebound visits, member visits as appropriate

They do not “log” their hours as ministry needs vary often. Their focus encompasses helping where they can regardless of the time required to do so. NOTE:  Other ways in which members can help Pastor Ryan with ministry is to volunteer assistance with children & youth ministry activities.
