“All Things New!”

We often say that you can’t go home again. It’s a stark reminder that time can’t go backwards. We can’t go back to the way things were. Even if we recycle or repurpose what we have, we can’t make old things new again. But God can. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, all things are made new. And that includes us, too!

Honest Questions Lead Us to Deeper Intimacy: A Devotion

He sits next to me, untwisting the small, green cap of an applesauce snack. After each squeeze, he tells me something small about his day—then he asks me, “Why is Russia attacking Ukraine? And why do people kill each other?” I take a deep breath, noticing how small his hands are and that he has dirt on his jeans. I tell him, “That’s a really good question,” then whisper, “Help!” to God as I realize I have the same questions.

Our natural tendency is to shield our kids from the harsher realities of the world and run from some of these questions that we are afraid of.

Our fear of questions and doubt reveal our limited understanding of love. John, a disciple of Jesus, wrote this, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4: 18

We can welcome the questions of our children and our own. Doing so will require us to dig beyond them and find the fears we hide and offer it all to God. Our fear and doubts can lead us to a deepened faith.

God, we are so often afraid. We cover it up with statements of faith and stubborn platitudes. Reach past it all—show us our real questions. Give us the courage to trust You. Be near to us in our doubts and deliver us from our fears with Your perfect love. Amen.

Timothy Volunteers Serve at One City Café

Do you know about this ministry? On the 5th Thursdays throughout the year (usually 3-4 times), the One City Café servants from Timothy have served the homeless in Kansas City at the Bishop Sullivan Center on Troost Ave. for several years.

Since COVID, the size of the group reduced from 6-7 each time rather than 18 serving from Timothy pre-COVID. Pictured here are those Timothy volunteers serving on March 31st. Back row: John Williams, Greg Galvin, Steve Schild; front row: Sandy Galvin, Janel Schild, Donna Williams.

If you are interested in learning more about this ministry, please contact Pat Bock (chbock1@gmail.com). Future dates for Timothy’s group to serve are June 30 and Sept. 29, 2002. Thanks to all involved in this ministry!

National Day of Prayer

All are welcome to take time to pray on the May 5 National Day of Prayer. Timothy’s sanctuary will be open, and the Prayer Room, at the back of the lobby, will be available form 9am-4:30pm. Next Generation:  TLS Modular Unit Project and Raise the Roof Updates

Last November, a gracious donor offered to fund the installation of three modular units at Wyatt to meet the need additional space for school expansion (1st unit installed Summer 2022, 2nd unit installed Summer 2023, 3rd unit for office space/meeting rooms installed after sale of RD Mize).

In early January, the preliminary project documents received general approval from the City of Blue Springs Planning Department. Timothy also received instructions concerning the construction permitting process. A “Wyatt Trailer Team,” chaired by Gary Flandermeyer, was appointed, and Voters approved the Wyatt Trailer Project at a special meeting on Feb. 6th.

Williams Scotsman was the successful bidder for the Unit 1 trailer lease (27’6” X 72’0” double wide) on March 7th. On Feb. 24th, Powell CWM of Independence was awarded a contract to provide civil engineering services. They are preparing trailer site layout and construction drawings & specifications; their work is nearly completion. On March 30th, a Request for Proposal was issued to three electrical construction firms to provide design/build services for the electrical construction related to this project. Bids are due April 11th.
Current preparation includes the issuance of the last construction contract, Site Preparation, which includes construction labor & materials for grading, installation of the support for the trailer, underground potable water, and sewer system piping and equipment. In early May, a permit application will be submitted to the City of Blue Springs. The project is currently on schedule for occupancy date of July 15, 2022. Please keep this process in your prayers.

The location for the outdoor storage building at Wyatt will be east of the parking lot behind the dumpster, south of the fire pit. Leadership is currently talking to potential vendors about designs. Leadership looks forward to sharing more updates soon. Thank you for supporting this project through prayer and special contributions. To God Be All the Glory!

“Thank you for your faithful gifts during the first quarter of 2022, as we received your gifts in the total of amount of $1,081.11.  In the four plus years I have been Director of LUMA, I am amazed what God has done and continues to do. He is also actively giving out His Word through the many ministries we support, including three African refugee communities, three Hispanic communities, which now includes partnering with ICOA, a holistic outreach agency located at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Kansas City, KS.
