In the aftermath of VBS and an exciting Celebration Sunday, with no place to run to this morning, I looked at the news. War, fighting and death were the prevalent topics. COVID and monkeypox grabbed the headlines. What a vast contrast to the week of VBS and the mountain-top experience I shared with 170 children. Shutting off the television, I opened my Bible to John 14:27: Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.
Lord Jesus, bless Your people as we reach out to our community with Your Good News. We ask that You will bless the Word that we will be proclaimed in the approaching adult membership class starting on Wednesday, September 7. Gather the men and women You have chosen to hear Your saving Gospel. Do not let the evil one hinder them. Prepare this congregation to receive those You will gather around us. Amen.
Calling all middle school parents! We are working at creating some encouraging, fun, and Jesus-centered events this year for your kiddos. Stephen Ministry provides one-to-one Christian care to those who are hurting or struggling with any of life’s challenges: divorce, loneliness, relocation, hospitalization, illness or job loss. Have you considered God’s call to serve as a Stephen Minister? Timothy’s next training session begins Tuesday, September 6. Classes meet weekly from 6:30-9pm. Program topics include: The Art of Listening, Distinctively Christian Caring, Assertiveness, Relating Gently and Firmly, Maintaining Boundaries in Care Giving. For the upcoming school year, Lutheran High School—Kansas City will welcome three wonderful students, two girls and one boy between the ages of 15 & 18, waiting to live out their American Dream in the USA. They all speak English and provide their own spending money for personal and educational needs as well as health insurance.
