As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
Money Matters: Money Matters: Sowing and Harvesting

Earlier this year, farmers and gardeners sowed their seeds into the ground and by now, they’ve been able to harvest their crop. What you sow determines what you harvest. The same is true when it comes to our Christian living. What we sow in God’s name will eventually be harvested. So what can we expect to find when it comes to our money?

Exchanging Envy for Celebration: A Devotion

The miracle of baptism was celebrated on Sunday. I looked at the young couple standing so picture perfect with that small child between them, and I revel in a God who comes down to touch us in such a personal way. Recently, someone had shared their envy for those women who were able to have children. She lived a life of pain and loneliness which crowded out her capacity to celebrate with her friends. She shared how it seemed God was making everyone else’s dreams come true and she was somehow forgotten.

The apostle Paul had a similar experience. In John 21, Jesus gives Peter a glimpse of how he’s going to die. Peter doesn’t know how to handle what Jesus tells him, so he awkwardly looks over at John and asks, “Lord, what about him?” I imagine Jesus keeping His eyes on Peter as He replies, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”

We all have moments when we look at the world and see people with so much more in life, and we ask Jesus, “What about them? Why are their lives going the way they want? Why are their dreams coming true?” And I think Jesus keeps His tender eyes trained on us and says with kindness, “What is that to you? You must follow Me.”

We must follow Jesus.

Even if it still hurts, we can keep our eyes on Jesus through the pain. We can choose to trust Him instead of envying others. Trust is more powerful and braver than envy. Trust chooses, over and over, to see the good.

If in the midst of our celebration and trust, the envy, pain and loneliness still sneak in, we can bring every ache into the light of Jesus. Because no matter what happens in the lives of the people around us, we are following Him.

Blessed Thanksgiving to All

A blessed Thanksgiving to our Timothy family! We pray God continues to richly bless each family as we seek to transform lives through Christ. Everyone is invited to Timothy’s Thanksgiving Eve Service TONIGHT at 5:30 in the RD Mize sanctuary. Holy Communion will be celebrated. Tonight’s offering will fund Timothy’s Emergency Assistance Fund for the coming year. Thank you for your generous support of this solid Transforming Lives through Christ blessing.

Speaking of blessings, Timothy so generously supports food donations all year long for Community Services League, Hillcrest Transitional Housing, and Jesu el Buen Pastor congregation in KC. Especially during this time of year, donations are abundant with the annual Brown Grocery Sack Ministry to provide staples for holiday meals for the hungry in KC. The Donations Closet is overflowing—what a blessing! There’s still time to bring in your filled sacks but please do so by Nov. 27th. We already know it will require two trucks to deliver all of the food! Thank you!!

Confirmation Students Serve Others

Transforming Lives through Christ was evident last Wednesday, Nov. 16, when over 50 Confirmation students and their Prayer Pals gathered in the Family Life Center to pack 100 meals for Metro Lutheran Ministries. These lunches will feed area homeless over the next several weeks. After completing the packing project, the youth and their adult prayer pals enjoyed a hot chocolate bar while becoming better acquainted. Lots of good connections were made, and lots of people will appreciate the food packed into these bags! Thank you, youth and adults for your service!

Youth Scavenger Hunt

Timothy’s youth had a rowdy time on our Scavenger Hunt last Saturday, Nov. 19th. They ran around to visit some of our local members where they acted out skits and sang silly songs, ran through stores to purchase items, took some silly photos, and collected items for charity. It was a great day filled with laughter and holiday cheer by collecting over 40 items to donate to Resource Health for single moms.

Youth Servant Event at Our Redeemer Lutheran

Timothy youth and families made their way to Our Redeemer Lutheran in KC last Sunday, Nov. 20th, to serve a Thanksgiving meal to 45 members in the community. It was a great opportunity to be generous servants! Pastor Ryan shared a brief devotion about the God who is for us and with us. We continue to have our lives transformed!
