As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
Take 10: Word”

It’s so important for us to stay connected to God’s Word. The Word has power behind it, bringing about change and transformation in the ways that God wants. We pray that God would make us receptive to what His Word can teach us and do for us so that we may produce good fruit in keeping with our faith.

Devotion: “How Much Longer?”

“How much longer?” the small voice asks from the car seat. I smile at my granddaughter, but after the third time, I realize: This is the very thing I’ve been asking God. Day after day. Prayer after prayer after prayer. I wait and pray. Wait and wonder, “How much longer, God, until You heal what’s broken?”

It isn’t that we don’t trust God’s goodness and sovereignty. We’re strapped in, seat belts buckled, certain that God will bring us all the way Home, but waiting is hard. Waiting is woven throughout Scripture.

Noah didn’t build the ark overnight. Sarah and Abraham longed for a child. The Israelites wandered in circles for forty years.

What we want is a miracle — and instead, we receive just enough strength to carry through the day. One day “how much longer” will be no longer. But for today, we pray “on earth as it is in heaven.” We remember that God will not be rushed, but neither will He be late. We wait and we trust: God really is going to carry us through.

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
 Isaiah 46:4

Timmy Burgers Thanks Everyone!

THANK YOU, TIMOTHY!! The Festival Committee is most appreciative of the outpouring of support for its major outreach and fundraiser event at the Fall Fun Fest last weekend. They report that everything about this year’s effort was the most successful in a long time, everything from prayerful support to willing volunteers to efficient organization.  It was just a lot of fun to fellowship with each other and the community. Timothy thanks the Festival Committee for its phenomenal “down-to-a-science” planning and implementation. To God Be the Glory!

Report from Real Estate Task Force

The congregation is invited to read a report from the Real Estate Task Force, explaining its work over the past six months. Timothy’s leadership thanks the task force for its expertise, dedication, commitment, and professionalism throughout this process.  To God Be the Glory!

Called Staff Appreciation Month

The month of October is traditionally celebrated as Clergy Appreciation Month. For many years, Timothy has included all of its called (rostered) employees in this special recognition. In addition to Pastors John and Ryan, TLS teachers Kim Brunkhorst, Beckie Hatcher, Jill Otte, and Mary Beth Self are rostered with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

We praise and thank God for all of Timothy’s staff! Members are encouraged to keep all Timothy staff in your prayers and extend words of thanksgiving, encouragement, and appreciation as you have opportunity. There are some simple “thank-you” note cards at each Information Center if you care to pick one up for a special note to someone.

Timothy’s Tithes Appreciated

Timothy continues to support organizations through its commitment to send 10% tithes on a regular basis. Below are excerpts from two thank-you letters received this week.

From St. Paul High School, Concordia  —  “Thank you for your gift of $868.09. Your partnership helps fuel our mission of raising Christian leaders to declare Christ. We cherish our relationship with you and pray that we will continue to be partners for His mission. We promise to give our very best to the students in our care. We are the last of the LCMS residential high schools, and we know that we have an awesome responsibility to raise up Christian leaders to go out into this broken world.”

From Community Services League  —  “Thank you for your recent gift of $1,157.45 to Community Services League. Your support allows us to maintain neighborhood-based social services that are accessible and helpful to families. This year we assisted more than 20,000 individuals in need. We provided direct aid of more than $36M for rent, utility, and mortgage assistance, saving 7,000+ families from eviction. We helped our 500th community member with a disability achieve an employment milestone. The list goes on and on . . . Thank you for your generous support.”
