As We Gather for Worship This Weekend

“Take 10: Do”

When God calls on us to join Jesus on His mission, it’s not just about talking. It’s also about doing. We are called on to work to make the world better for the people in our lives: our family, friends, neighbors, and community. We are called to shine the light of Jesus through what we do. But the best part is this: Jesus is the One who prepares those good works for us to do in advance. We just follow where He’s leading so that we can do what we are called to do.

Devotion: “Simply Living Out Our Faith”

As I let the antsy teen driver go first at the four-way-stop, I smile, even if no one is around to observe. When we live out our faith, God is glorified.

I’ve grown frustrated and admittedly judgmental toward the absence of civility among people. Social media loves to stir the pot. And yet that doesn’t give any of us permission to be rude or hateful. Quite the contrary! As people created in the image of God, we have the privilege of reflecting His character.

“Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them…. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:29-32

Every interaction with others is an opportunity to love well and bring glory to God. We never know whom might be watching, and our words and actions might just be preaching a message they need to hear.

OASIS Family Night

The next OASIS family night is Oct. 11th. This new program is offered on the second Wednesdays so families can gather together for a free, catered meal from 6-6:30pm in the Family Life Center and then break out into separate education and fellowship activities for both students and parents. Resources will be provided for family devotions at home on the other Wednesdays of each month. Please contact Pastor Ryan (816.228.5300 Ext. 8046) or Clancy Heisel (816.228.5300 Ext 8047) with questions. RSVP’s are requested to help in planning the catered meal of herb roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and dessert!
Thank you!

Free Financial Presentations

Are you interested in learning more about “Estate Planning and Role of Executor”? Make plans to attend a free overview of these topics THIS Sunday, after each service. Timothy member and Financial Advisor Christy Yager will share valuable information to consider when researching these important topics.

The presentation at RD Mize will be in the Fellowship Hall, and the presentation at Wyatt will be the Music Room. Childcare will be available. Contact Dave Domsch (816.809.5839) with questions.

All Timothy children and their friends are invited to a fun Harvest Party on Friday, Oct. 20, from 6-8pm at the Wyatt Campus. They will be treated to pizza, games, prizes, and opportunities to make new friends! Plan to attend!

LWML KC South Zone Fall Rally

LWML MO District KC South Zone 2023 Fall Rally will be Tuesday, October 24, 2023, with the theme “Christ Our Anchor” based on Hebrews 6:19. Timothy LWML will host this rally. Program: REHOPE – Restoring Survivors of Human Trafficking. Gifts from the Heart: Monetary donations for REHOPE Farms (checks payable to LWML MO District KC South Zone). Registration begins at 9am; opening devotion at 9:30am. Cost is $5 (includes lunch). RSVP to Kim Duffy at 913-488-7677 by Oct 15th. Hope to see you there!

Called Staff Appreciation Month

The month of October is traditionally celebrated as Clergy Appreciation Month. For many years, Timothy has included all of its called (rostered) employees in this special recognition. In addition to Pastors John and Ryan, TLS teachers Kim Brunkhorst, Beckie Hatcher, Jill Otte, and Mary Beth Self are rostered with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

We praise and thank God for all of Timothy’s staff! Members are encouraged to keep all Timothy staff in your prayers and extend words of thanksgiving, encouragement, and appreciation as you have opportunity. There are some simple “thank-you” note cards at each Information Center if you care to pick one up for a special note to someone.

TLS Christmas Wonderland Shop

Again this year, the TLS Parent-Teacher League (PTL) is organizing a Christmas Wonderland Shop for TLS students to shop for gifts for their parents.

The congregation is invited to support this project by picking a gift tag from a Christmas tree in each lobby from October 18 through November 19.

The unwrapped gift items may be returned to the bin next to the tree before Nov. 19 so that the Christmas Wonderland Shop can be set up for students to shop the week of Dec. 4th. Thank you for your support!

Christmas Giving Trees

Now is the time to start thinking of families who may need some extra assistance at Christmas. If you know of an individual or family from our congregation or school who would be a candidate for our Giving Tree ministry, please submit their name(s), address and phone number in a sealed envelope and place in Sandy Gregory’s mailbox in the RD Mize Communication Center or contact her at 816.228.5300 (8042). Deadline to submit names is October 30 for the team to coordinate all necessary steps for a successful 2023 Giving Tree ministry.

A Giving Tree will be displayed at each campus starting Wed., Nov. 22nd, for members to choose tags and return the suggested gifts on Sunday, Dec. 10th, for Timothy’s annual Journey to the Manger. Gifts will be distributed to families suggested by Timothy members, Community Services League, Immanuel Lutheran in KC, and Our Redeemer in KC. Thank you for your generous support in the past. We look forward to this year’s gifts of love.

2024 Germany & Austria Tour with MO District President Lee Hagan

MO District President Lee Hagan and his wife will host a 2024 tour of Germany and Austria. You are invited to join them on this journey through the German and Austrian alps down the Reformation Road. From the majestic beauty of the German alps surrounding the storybook castle Neuschwanstein and the Eagle’s Nest at Bechtesgaden to Mozart’s Salsburg and the Austrian hills, the tour will explore the breathtaking sights and sounds of this region. As the journey turns north, the group will explore the history of Martin Luther and the Reformation. One of the highlights of the tour will be visiting Wittenberg for the annual festival commemorating Martin and Katie Luther’s wedding. Group events will include a Rhine River dinner cruise, beer-tastings at a Bavarian brewery, and dinner at a Bavarian Biergarten. Other historical sites will include visiting the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz and the J.S. Bach Museum in Eisenach along with the famed Wartburg Castle. The tour will include 12 nights hotel lodging, daily breakfasts, five dinners, daily devotions, and historical introductions to the Luther sites by Dr. Hagan.
