As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
“Watch Closely”

Keep your eye on the ball!  At least that’s what baseball coaches say to their players.  They knew that a big key to hitting was watching that ball closely.  Today in our gospel lesson we meet a group of folks who are trying to keep their eyes on Jesus.  They are watching His every move and listening to His every word.  Despite their “efforts” they miss it anyways.  The question we ponder today is not simply are we keeping our eyes and ears on Jesus but rather are we missing it?!

God Calls Our Troubles Light and Momentary:  A Devotion

I have Bible verses I don’t like. I know I’m probably not supposed to admit that. That’s not to say I don’t believe them. The entirety of God’s Word is active, alive, inspired, and for our good. I know that. But some of the things God says are hard pills to swallow. One of the verses in Scripture is 2 Corinthians 4:17. It states, “For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory”. I’ve never liked the fact that God tells us that our struggles are “momentary and light.”

Have you ever felt that way?

Some of us have tough roads to walk. Our bodies are failing us. Some of us have lost loved ones. We’ve been wounded by people in our inner circles. Our mental health is struggling. None of what we’re going through is light.
What I’m learning, however, is that God doesn’t scoff at our pain. In fact, 2 Corinthians 4:17 isn’t about minimizing our sufferings at all. God isn’t telling us that our struggles don’t matter. He’s giving us a promise that one day our pain will end. In fact, He’s telling us that even the worst imaginable suffering on earth will be nothing compared to the “eternal weight of glory.”
This might not mean much now, but know this: everything in life is temporary, including our pain. God won’t always take away our pain, but He does promise to be our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Rest in that promise. This world is not our final home. A day is coming when joy will be ours and no one and nothing can ever take it away again.

Join the Wyatt Worship Team!

Do you love worshiping Jesus through music? We do!
Timothy is currently seeking vocalists, musicians, and sound techs for its Wyatt Campus worship team. If God has gifted you with a talent to share, and you feel Timothy may be the place, let’s connect and talk about it. We are currently accepting applications and would love to have you complete one so you can share your desire to serve the Lord and His people.
Have questions? Join us on Sunday, August 28th, at 11:30am after the 10am worship service for an informal question-and-answer time. Come meet Sandy Sauter, Wyatt worship team leader, Pastor Rod Lindemann, and other worship team members to discover what it’s like to be a part of the team. Our goal is to seek talented people who desire to share their gift in leading others in worship.
Applications available at https://timothylutheran.com/worshipteam/
If you have questions, you can contact Sandy (sandys@timothylutheran.com) or Pastor Rod (rodl@timothylutheran.com).

REMINDER: RD MIZE WORSHIP SCHEDULE CHANGE

Over the past six months, we have had two worship services at RD Mize at 8:00 and 9:15. This was done as an experiment to see if the attendance at RD Mize warranted having two services. The Board of Elders has been monitoring the attendance patterns at RD Mize for the past several months.
At their last meeting, the Elders decided to discontinue the 8:00 worship service. This is being done to better focus our efforts at RD Mize and better utilize our volunteers and staff. Starting on Sunday, September 11, there will only be one worship service at RD Mize at 9:00 AM.
We are thankful for the elders, ushers, sound techs, and organists who put in a lot of hard work to make the 8:00 service possible.

Sr. High Mission Trip

The National Youth Gathering was an amazing trip but now it is time for our Sr. High kids to pursue God’s calling for them to “GO” and love the least, lost, and lonely.  That’s right we will be taking our youth on a national mission trip summer 2023.  There will be an informational meeting to discuss first steps in this planning process on August 28th following worship at the Wyatt campus in the music room.  Any kiddos AND parents 8th grade to 12th grade are invited to come and hear a little about the plan.  If you cannot make it but are interested please contact him before August 28th.  Let’s see how God will stretch us.

Youth Living and Loving like Christ!

13 total youth and adults headed down to Kansas City last Saturday August 20th to serve at Agape Pamoja’s “Camp Twende.”  This camp is a once a month camp for refugee children who live in the area.  There’s games, a Bible Story, small group time, pizza, and even a little dancing.  Our youth and adults were absolutely amazing sharing Jesus along with lots of laughs.  Jesus is on the move. #Heartyourhood

We Need You – Timmy Burger Volunteers!

This year, Timothy’s Festival Committee is celebrating its 40th anniversary of gathering in fellowship to support the famous Steakburger traditions. This all-hands-on-deck outreach ministry needs 300+ volunteers to ensure another successful effort at the annual Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest on Sept. 16-18 on Main Street in Downtown Blue Springs (volunteers also needed on Sept. 15 for booth set-up). Proceeds are always designated for non-budgeted church facility needs, after a 10% tithe is allocated for a worthy internal or external mission focus.
SO, it’s time to sign up for one or more of your favorite shifts! It’s a wonderful opportunity to put our collective hearts to serve into action in our community. Starting this Sunday, you can sign up in the lobby at either campus or click on the link or QR code provided here.  Join the FUN and get your TIMMY BURGER!  Stop by the table to visit with Festival Committee members if you have questions about this fun opportunity!

Nancy’s Retirement Luncheon

On Sunday afternoon we hosted Nancy Nowiszewksi’s retirement party in the Family Life Center at RD Mize.  There was an amazing turnout of current and former Timothy members along with family and community members who have served alongside Nancy throughout the years.  Lunch was an amazing spread of salads, fruit, sides, tasty chicken tenders, and an abundance of desserts.  After lunch, we were reminded of God’s amazing work through Nancy as words were shared from the executive board, the board of elders, Pastor John, Pastor Lieb, Tom Nowiszewski, and a few others.  Nancy wrapped up the event making sure we all knew she really was retiring.  There were certainly laughs to share and some tears shed.  We are so grateful for the countless lives that were transformed through Christ as our Lord worked through Nancy.  The best news is, she and Tom aren’t going anywhere and will remain a part of our Timothy family!
