“God Chose You”

What kind of things are worth your time, your energy, and your efforts?  These are the things we often say are important.  Today we tune into one of the most important things for God, this thing called “life.”  From Genesis through Revelation life is something our Lord commits an abundance of His time, energy, and effort to.  Which means life IS special, every single life from embryo to elderly, whether healthy or hurting, whether from a surprised pregnancy or facing a terminal diagnoses.  So let’s talk LIFE because it is important!

“Life Sunday:  God Chose You”

Choice is a divine gift to humankind. That means choice isn’t a right. And death isn’t a decision. It’s everyone’s inevitable destiny. You can’t “choice” your way out of death. We won’t keep our own deaths from happening by making anyone else’s death happen. Thanks be to God Jesus displaces freedom of choice and replaces it with freedom from choice. The choice we need is not a choice we make but choice we are. What saves, what gives life, is not choosing but being chosen. The choice we can’t make, the one that matters most, is the one we don’t have to. God chose you, and that changes everything.

No matter who has left you alone, the Almighty Maker chose you. No matter what makes you afraid, the Lord God chose you. No matter why you feel ashamed, the Heavenly Father chose you. God chose you into existence. Your body proves it. You are a privilege. God chose you into forgiveness. Jesus’ body proclaims it. He is a gift. God chose you into making a difference. Every neighbor portrays it. They ar your invitation. You’re not an accident or an afterthought, even in sufferings or difficulties. You’re special. No human life is a joke or a mistake, not even in surprise pregnancies or terminal diagnoses. Each one’s precious, from fertilization to forever. None of us are hand-me-down or half-hearted, not embryos, not impaired persons, not elderly ones. We’re all priceless, whatever our ages, abilities, and appearances. God chose you to embody and to enact the sanctity of human lives. Christians advocate this kind of choice.

Join Pastor Rod for worship this Sunday to hear God’s Word on abortion and assisted suicide. God Chose You . . . “You do not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go an bear fruit.” John 15:16

“Take Your Time and Take It Slow

As many of you may have noticed, I sprained my ankle and have been not so patiently dealing with it. The frustration of going up stairs, walking down a hallway or simply getting ready for the day had forced me to slow down and take my time. I had to reinvent how I moved about in work and play.

This is true for any of us walking through a new season. In a way, we must reinvent ourselves as we maneuver lives that look different from before. We must resist the urge to rush towards panic and refuse to move through this season alone.
In the quiet of the morning or the still of the evening or the calm before the storm of the carpool line, we can take time to sit in the presence of Jesus. Consider a Scripture that reflects God’s promises:
This is what the Lord says — he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters . . .Isaiah 43:16-17 (NIV)

There’s no obstacle change brings that God does not bring a way through. There’s no change we encounter that God is not master over. There’s no season we experience that He doesn’t provide us with endurance. Take your time with Him and take it slow.

Next Generation Update

A quorum of 58 members registered attendance at the Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting last Sunday. The 2022 Development Plan, including a PowerPoint presentation and accompanying printed handout, was shared with the assembly. Printed copies of both are available at the Information Centers at both campuses and on the church website. The congregation is urged to review the information and email Diane Mayfield (dianem@timothylutheran.com) by Feb. 1 with comments and questions. The congregation was reminded that a stabilized budget throughout 2022 is imperative in moving forward with much of the expansion plan.

The congregation will convene again for a Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 11:30am to vote on two motions from the Executive Board regarding expansion at the Wyatt Campus:

  1. “The Executive Board moves to lease three modular trailers and install necessary infrastructure for Wyatt classroom space, youth activities, and meeting/office space for 2022-2023 (with first trailer installed in 2022, second trailer installed in 2023, third trailer as needed) at an approximate cost of $300,000 plus monthly operating expenses.”

SPECIAL NOTE:Following the meeting, a generous donor met with church leadership to commit to funding the trailer capital costs, infrastructure support costs, and annual rental of trailers for five years (2022-2027).

  1. “The Executive Board moves to construct a yard storage building at Wyatt at an approximate cost of $300,000.”

SPECIAL NOTE:This fundraising project, called “Raise-the-Roof,” will house outdoor equipment now moved back and forth between both campuses. More details soon.

The assembly approved the following resolution: “BE IT RESOLVED that the congregation of Timothy Lutheran Church empowers the Executive Board to accept a real estate offer of no less than $3.00 per square foot for the sale of 6.60 Wyatt acreage along MO Highway 7.
SPECIAL NOTE:  The March 2020 market summary valued the current value of this property between $3.00 and $3.50 per square foot.

“A Holy Gift”

Even though Christmas was just a few weeks ago, we might still have gifts on the brain. Maybe we’re still enjoying the presents we found under the tree. Maybe we’re making plans to exchange them for something better. But it’s good for us to remember that God gives us gifts, ones that come from the Spirit, that enable us to serve and empower that service. These special gifts are given to each of us so that we can serve God by serving each other. So as we recognize our gifts, may God help our love for others to overflow so we can be a blessing to the people around us.

That Time the Gospel Showed Up:  A Devotion

It was right there, with fluorescent lights shining over the Christmas music playing through the speakers. I could hear two voices. A niece and an aunt? A daughter and her mother? I’ll never forget what the older woman firmly—and yet kindly—said. “Now, remember, this is a gift. All you have to do is receive it.”

Tears prick my eyes even now, writing such a simple sentence. It’s more than the generosity of the words or the thoughtful reminder. It’s the Gospel, right there in the front of the store. Perhaps God said the same to us, as heaven touched earth, and the glory of God was a baby placed in a manger as angels sang in the skies above.

We’re in between Christmas and Easter now, and it won’t be long before we turn our attention to the reminder of Lent and the joy of celebrating a stone that was rolled away as death died once and for all. But here, as a new year begins to unfold, I’m sticking with the truth of a simple sentence that has the Gospel written all over it. Now, remember, this is a gift. All you have to do is receive it.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Romans 1: 16

A SONG WAS HEARD!!

We just finished Christmas. I didn’t get to worship in person due to COVID, but the songs and music played through my computer. The feeling of the gift of song which was sung by our choirs, our children and our soloists came through loud and clear. The psalmist said it best, Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Psalm 150: 6.

THANKS TO EVERYONE for bringing Praise to the Lord of creation, the Lord of salvation. If you would like to join the sanctuary choir, practices are on Wednesday nights from 7-8pm at RD Mize; please contact Miriam Lindemann (miriaml@timothylutheran.com). If you would like to join the Wyatt worship team, please contact Sandy Sauter (sautersandy5@gmail.com). Both ministries are eager to welcome new singers! It’s a great way to praise the Lord as we begin walking with Him through the Lenten season.

Children’s Epiphany Party

All Timothy children and their friends are invited to an Epiphany Party TONIGHT (Jan. 14) at the Wyatt Campus. Arrive any time from 6-8pm for a fun fellowship time. Please bring one canned good as the “admission fee” and plan to enjoy a fun journey filled with crafts, fun, and treats. Plus there will be a pizza dinner!

Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting
THIS SUNDAY, Jan. 16     11:30am     Wyatt Auditorium

Please plan to attend to learn about the 2022 action plan for addressing care of RD Mize and expansion of Wyatt. The presentation includes dependency factors for each step of the process.

Voters will also be asked to approve a resolution submitted by the Executive Board:
BE IT RESOLVED that the congregation of Timothy Lutheran Church empowers the Executive Board to accept a real estate offer of no less than $3.00 per square foot for the sale of 6.32 Wyatt acreage along MO Highway 7.

A minimum of 40 voters is required to conduct business. Thank you!

Little Dresses for Africa

Several LWML ladies gathered on Jan. 8th to learn how to sew “Little Dresses for Africa.” Using gently-used pillow cases and a few sewing notions, the ladies made little dresses for girls in remote villages of Africa. Sewn by volunteers around the world, these little dresses give hope to little girls and remind them that they are worthy.  As relationships form, projects are completed through clean water, education and community.

Thanks to Timothy LWML members, pictured left to right, Susan Ready (standing), Kim Duffy, Shirrell Routon, Lois Domsch, and Sandy Galvin (standing) for sharing their talents in this project on Jan. 8th. Since there are no current plans to organize group sewing sessions for this ministry, anyone is welcome to participate individually in your own homes. Contact Susan Ready (sready2@comcast.net or 816.229.7688)) if you are interested.

Lent Is Fast Approaching

As the season of Lent approaches, mark your calendars to worship with your Timothy family at the Wednesday evening Lenten Services.  On Ash Wednesday, March 4th, two services at RD Mize will occur4pm and 6:30pm., with Holy Communion.  There will be no education classes on Ash Wednesday.

The subsequent Lenten services (March 9, 16, 23, 30, & April 6) will occur at 5:30pm only, also at RD Mize.

At this time, Timothy’s LWML plans to host the annual Ash Wednesday Ham Dinner in the Family Life Center. Ministry groups wishing to coordinate/sponsor one of the other five Lenten Dinners should contact Diane Mayfield (dianem@timothylutheran.com) to reserve a preferred date. Since education classes will be held on all Wednesdays following Ash Wednesday, the recommended serving time is 5-7pm. Look for more information soon.

“A Holy Name”

When we own something, we have a desire to label it as ours. Maybe this is done with markers on the bottom of a doll’s foot. Or it could be done with a label maker. Or by putting up signs to make sure our ownership is clear. But we mark our territory and declare that something is ours. God does the same thing for us, calling us by name, saying that we belong to Him. And the way He marks us and makes us His is through the miracle of water and the Word, Holy Baptism.

The Goodness of Our Creative Callings: A Devotion

In bearing God’s image, humans share God’s creative impulse. When God made the world, He put His creativity on display, breathing to life a colorful diversity in all things. Every plant, creature, and human is a testament to God, our Creator and King, who delights in us for whom we are and the ways we reflect His image in the world. After each day of creation in Genesis 1, we read that God surveyed all that He created and declared, “It is good.” God created for the purpose of beauty, goodness, and truth, and we can, too. In our skills and abilities and talents, God has planted the seeds for us to co-create good and beautiful things as a form of worship to God and for His glory.

Through our crafted creations, whether they be in word, object, or aesthetic, we have the ability to further God’s goodness in the world. This is how we create for both our own joy and the joy of the world. This year, let’s return back to our first creative loves. May we awaken to curiosity and delight, wonder and imagination, and join God in the cultivation of goodness, beauty, and truth as a way of worship to Him.

Psalm 8: 1-2 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

Revised Worship Times

Starting Sunday, Feb. 6, Timothy will add the 8am worship service at the RD Mize Campus. The 9am service will move to 9:15am. At this time, the Wyatt 10am service will remain the same.

“Lost Sight”

Have you ever lost sight of something precious?  If so, you probably can imagine the fear, anxiety, and even confusion when Joseph and Mary lost the Savior of the world.  This Sunday, we are going to take a look at this unique text that takes place during Jesus’ childhood, and we are going to wrestle with the question, “Do we lose sight of Jesus, too?”

Moving Ministry Forward in 2022

Timothy’s leadership thanks its members for attending the Annual Voters’ Meeting on Dec. 5th. Following that meeting, the Executive Board continues to develop plans to move ministries forward regarding expansion at Wyatt prior to securing funding for Phase 1.  Have you seen the master plan architectural drawings yet? If not, stop by the lobby at either campus to check it out! The Executive Board also continues to prayerfully monitor general operating contributions, keeping in mind how the congregation’s financial support moves ministries forward in the new year.

A letter to the congregation, communicating a plan for increased funding for ministries in 2022 as well as outlining a Phase 1 Program action plan for moving Wyatt expansion forward, will be mailed next week. A Special Voters’ Meeting is scheduled for Sun., Jan. 16, after the 10am service at Wyatt to allow the congregation an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about Phase 1 Program. Please plan to attend!

Friends Café

Timothy’s Women of Hope ministry invites ladies to the next Friends Café! Mark your calendars and plan to attend on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 9:30-11am in the Fellowship Hall at RD Mize. Bring family and friends along!

“The Gift, the Call”

CREATIVE TENSION (December 24): Christmas is a time when people give gifts to each other. Sometimes those gifts are trivial, but sometimes, they can change a person’s life for the better. That is what God does for us. He sends us His love in the person of Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem. And this love changes us and changes the world. It’s a gift that comes with a call, a call to us to love each other the way God first loves us.

“The Contradiction

CREATIVE TENSION (December 25): In the Christmas epistle from Hebrews, we see this powerful picture of who Jesus is: greater than the angels, the one who speaks to us in these last days. It’s a contradiction, though, to hear these words on Christmas, when we remember how Jesus became one of us, taking on frail human flesh and becoming a baby. He does this to lift us up, fallen creatures that we are, and to make us God’s children. Christmas is a miracle of contradictions.

“Pink Tie Sunday – The Loss of a Child

CREATIVE TENSION (December 26): “Lord, if you had been here…” asked Mary at the loss of her brother. Perhaps we ask the same question at the loss of a child. God’s Word tells us that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. The mystery of faith in a child is beyond our comprehension. Jesus says, “The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” We put our trust in a merciful loving God. It is by Jesus’ wounds our spiritual illness is healed, and we are given new life, even to the unborn. It is a Resurrection promise in Jesus to new life with no more pain, suffering or death.

What’s the One Thing That Matters Most to You Now? A Devotion

I watch the saltwater taffy machine, stretching, squishing, and twisting as the color reaches the end of the candy. Suddenly, I feel like I’m being stretched and compressed as I think through my list of these last few days before Christmas. My anxiety immediately skyrockets, and I dive into getting things done.

The Apostle Paul said, “I focus on this one thing:  Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (Philippians 3: 13-14) It can seem to us like Paul did a lot of things in his lifetime, but he really just did one thing in many different ways.

How would you fill in the blank in Paul’s declaration, “I focus on this one thing . . .”?  You might answer with words about loving well, serving faithfully, living with excellence, or practicing resilience.

The holidays can be stressful. Pause and take a deep breath, then whisper a prayer and answer this question, “What is the one thing I most want to pursue in this season?”

Pink Tie Sunday: December 26

Join us in PINK THIS SUNDAY, as we remember the little ones who passed from miscarriages, stillborn births, and abortion. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” Jeremiah 1:5

“Lord, if you had been there . . .” asked Mary at the loss of her brother. Perhaps we ask the same question at the loss of a child. God’s Word tells us that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. The mystery of faith in a child is beyond our comprehension. Jesus says, “The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die4.” We put our trust in a merciful, loving God.

It was by Jesus’ wounds that our spiritual illness was healed, and we are all given new life, even to the unborn. It is a Resurrection promise in Jesus to new life with no more pain, suffering, or death.

Join us as remember and praise God for the gift of life.  Pull out your pink clothing—ties, scarves, shirts, sweaters, jewelry, etc—to wear to church this Sunday, Dec. 26th!

“The Antidote

CREATIVE TENSION: Mary very well could have been filled with doubts after the angel told her that she would give birth to a Son. But rather than wallow in the doubt, rather than allow that to poison her faith, she checked out the promise. She went to Elizabeth to see if what the angel said was true. And her faith was rewarded with the truth. She had found an antidote for her doubt.

When the Lies Are Loud, Rehearse Truth’s Song:

A Devotion

This sentiment orbits around me: You are disposable! You don’t matter! You are   insignificant! The noise of my inner fear can be deafening. Yes, I know that God   sees me and values me. I don’t struggle with that at all. My strife has been with   humans devaluing me. I can tell myself that it shouldn’t matter what people think of   me, that I should solely be concerned with how God sees me and knows me, but   that doesn’t reconcile the countless times that in someone else’s decision-making   process, I’ve been overlooked and felt like an afterthought or a pawn.

When we feel vulnerable, invisible, or forgotten, remember that God not only sees   us, but comes alongside us and cares for us. Matt. 6:26 reminds us, Look at the   birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

When lies try to deplete us, there is One who sees us, to remind us of our visibility, our value, and our significance. We need to come back to the truth. We matter. We are seen. We are valued. Rehearse truth’s song. Turn up the volume and allow it to refresh you.

Ongoing Support for Hillcrest Transitional Housing

Timothy recently received a letter of appreciation from Hillcrest for its ongoing support, both in volunteer opportunities and financial gifts. For more than 40 years, Hillcrest has helped families get back on their feet by providing homeless individuals, families, and youth with the life skills and tools needed to live self-sufficient lives and to leave behind the cycle of homelessness forever. The current resident in the apartment sponsored by Timothy continues to do well!
You may remember that about 18 months ago a fire destroyed the apartment building next to the one housing Timothy’s sponsored apartment. Recently, Hillcrest hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new building. This photo shows one of the new rooms in one of the apartments.

“Gaudete!”

CREATIVE TENSION: The Advent/Christmas season is supposed to be a time of joy and rejoicing, but as the days grow darker and the weather turns colder and we look back on a year with maybe a bit of regrets, we need that reminder to rejoice in every situation. Because true joy and rejoicing comes from the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. That is what gives us true, overflowing joy.

No Matter How Lost You Are, You’re Always Welcomed Home: A Devotion

One of my favorite memories as a child is playing hide-and-seek in the corn field across the road. My friend from Chicago was not so sure. As my brother counted, I said, “Follow me,” and took off running down the straight rows, zigzagged across the field to the center, and then waited quietly. Easy peasy.
Except my friend was not with me. The corn stalks were taller than she was, and suddenly she was lost in the center of a corn field, surrounded by giant stalks, blocking the view of the house.

My leadership skills clearly needed some refining. I’d led her into disaster. The problem is, I don’t just get lost in corn fields. I tend to wander off the path often, thinking I can find a better way. God’s way often feels a little too slow, requiring a bit too much patience, and I don’t tend to understand exactly where He’s taking me. So I hack my way through, convinced I’ll figure it out on my own, but I just end up lost.

But just like in the Parable of the Prodigal Son, we are never too lost or too far off the path that we won’t be welcomed home. Luke 15:24 says, “for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. ‘So, they began to celebrate.’” There is a celebration waiting for us, festivities beyond our wildest imaginations. Our Father always knows where we are and is always trembling with excitement to welcome us back home.

TLS 4th Grade Christmas Gift Variation

Upon returning from Thanksgiving break, Kim Brunkhorst’s 4th grade class at TLS discussed all of the blessings that our Heavenly Father has bestowed upon each of them and about the power of GIVING. This led to a powerful, impactful decision!

Instead of exchanging Christmas gifts with each other, the class has chosen to help other people in need. The class chose four tags from Timothy’s Giving Tree in the TLS lobby requesting the following gifts: a person who wishes for a glassware set; a person who wishes for a dishes set; a person who wishes for an adult crochet kit; and a gift card for boy aged 11-18.

Mrs. Brunkhorst then led the class on an Amazon “shopping spree” to purchase these gifts, looking forward to wrapping them when they arrive. The students are praying for the success of this project as they gain a better understanding and appreciation for the benefits of GIVING to others.

We Are Thankful for You!

Shout for joy to the
Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God.
Psalm 100:1-3a
Gratitude can shift our hearts to see God in the present moment. In suffering pain and grief, in dealing with annoyances and inconveniences, we can practice being thankful. This seemingly simple exercise has the power to change our groans to praise and to make us aware of God, who is always with us.
Practicing gratitude can look like writing down a list of things you’re grateful for — the beauty of fall, the laughter of children, the gathering of family — or it can be a list of things God has done in the past that you want to remember again. As one of those working behind the scenes, at Timothy I want to Thank you for being part of this community.

NYG Cookie Walk Fundraiser

Don’t forget to stop by the Cookie Walk in the Family Life Center TOMORROW, Dec. 4, from 10am-1pm, to select various kinds of Christmas cookies for your holiday celebrations! All proceeds will benefit the senior high youth traveling to Houston in July for the 2022 National Youth Gathering. Timothy’s youth appreciate your support!

Timothy Welcomes Newest Stephen Ministers

Timothy’s Care Ministry is blessed to commission four new Stephen Ministers this Sunday during the Wyatt worship service at 10am. Please contact Care Minister Nancy Nowiszewski (nancyn@timothylutheran.com or 816.228.5300 Ext. 8042) if you would like to receive care from any of Timothy’s Stephen Ministers or if you are interested in future training sessions to be a Stephen Minister.

What Is Money?

CREATIVE TENSION: It’s considered impolite to talk about money, but God doesn’t shy away from that taboo topic at all. As a matter of fact, money is one of the most discussed topics in the Bible. It’s good for God’s people to remember what money is: not a master to be served, but a form of stored service. How we use money reflects our priorities, and so it’s good for us, as we make an impact with our gifts this weekend, to ask, “What are we investing in?”

Thanksgiving Food for Your Soul

Can you reminisce about last Thanksgiving and Christmas season? Knee deep in the unknown impacts of the pandemic, many of us still experienced the slowest, most simple holiday season in years. We contemplated how to maintain this simple rhythm. So as the temptation looms to rush and ready ourselves for upcoming festivities, let’s push back against packed calendars filled with unnecessary stress and savor the celebratory moments we are creating.

  1. Feed gratitude.
  2. Feed flexibility. Our best laid plans may not happen.
  3. Feed patience (lots of it).
  4. Feed contentment. It’s difficult to remember the balance of need vs. want. We truly have everything we need.
  5. Feed encouragement. We’re fragile. A blessed word makes hearts soar.
  6. Feed forgiveness. This is the year. Extend forgiveness; experience freedom.
  7. Feed hospitality. Loneliness and isolation thrive. Be that solution for one person.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
When the turkey is gone and the mashed potatoes are cold, all that is left are the shared moments and memories of doing life together sharing Christ’s love.

Impact Sunday

This Sunday, Nov. 21, is Impact Sunday at Timothy. These gifts from your heart can be contributed on Timothy’s website, mailed to the church office, or placed in the offering plate. Please identify your gift as 2021 Impact Sunday. Timothy’s leadership appreciates your help in reducing the current deficit. Thank you!

Gratitude from LUMAA

Thank you, Timothy, for donating a total of 249 items of winter necessities, ranging from coats to caps & gloves to blankets and even a pair of boots, for the recent LUMAA (Lutheran Urban Mission Agency Auxiliary) in-gathering. In addition, monetary donations totaling $73 as well as 26 baby receiving blankets were all packed into a CRV van. Timothy’s generosity is always gratifying and much appreciated!

Ministry Fair at Wyatt

The Ministry Fair at each campus over the past two weeks generated awareness and interest in some of Timothy’s ministries. The Executive Board thanks the volunteers from the various ministries and the congregation for participating. We pray God’s blessings as you share the homeless kits when the opportunity arises.

Timothy Ministry One App

Youth Ministry Thanks Timothy The check has arrived! Your participation in the shoe drive this past summer/fall brought in 1,447 pounds (YES, pounds!) of shoes. While the original goal was not met, we were able to raise $328.80 for youth trips, and even more importantly bless many folks in need of shoes!

LWML Nut & Candy Sale runs through Nov. 28 at each campus. Stop by the tables in either lobby to pick up an order form or order online at church website. Products will be available for pick-up the following Sunday through Dec. 5. Making an Impact

CREATIVE TENSION: As we approach our Impact Sunday, we remember what an impact giving can have. Obviously, it has an impact on the church, but more than that, it’s a way for us to make an impact in other people’s lives because what is given can help facilitate transforming lives through Christ. But giving also has an impact on us as well, helping us to rely on God and trust Him to continue making an impact in us.

God Shows Up in Every Moment:  A Devotion

Okay, here’s what I need to know:  “What do I do when it feels like one partner in a relationship isn’t meeting my expectations, but He hasn’t done anything wrong?”   For the record, I am not talking about my husband, but looking at my relationship with Jesus and His partnership with Timothy Church and our current struggles.

Psalm 117:2 says, “For His lovingkindness is great toward us, and the truth of the Lord is everlasting.”

God’s love for us is neither passive nor shallow. That word, “lovingkindness,” is committed and an eternal love. While Jesus brings perfect love and kindness and mercy to the table, He’s also doing it knowing we’re broken humans who get fussy and frustrated. Jesus isn’t shocked watching us not trust Him. Rather, He shows up, moment after moment, ready to keep moving forward with us to the very end.

There are days we need to walk in faith that God really is close and He really is for our good. But when we reflect on how He has carried us and we see the ways His character is revealed, we can trust He’s here to stay. And we can respond with a life of service and sacrifice.

Cookie Walk

The youth attending the 2022 National Youth Gathering will host a Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10am-1pm in the Family Life Center at RD Mize. More details about the walk will be shared soon, but we need your help for a successful Cookie Walk. Simply put, we need cookies!

If you can make a large patch of cookies to donate to the walk, please call the church office.  Please drop off all cookies at the RD Mize church office by Friday, Dec. 3rd. Please contact Pastor John (johno@timothylutheran.com) with questions.

Ministry Fair at Wyatt

Thank you to those who gathered in the RD Mize lobby last week to connect with Timothy ministries, fellowship with each other, and assemble kits of essential items for the homeless. The same opportunity will occur at Wyatt this coming Sunday.  Please take the kit with you to keep in your car so it’s handy when you encounter someone in the community who would appreciate these items.

Veterans’ Day Program

Timothy Lutheran School hosted its annual Veterans Day celebration on Thursday November 11th.  We had a packed gym of our students along with families and veterans from all 5 branches of the military service in attendance.  We appreciated singing, music, prayers, and moments of reflection. Our youth made cards, posters, and banners which provided the décor for the event.  We are thankful for Timothy Lutheran School which teaches the Gospel so richly but also acknowledges what it means to be a good citizen and honor those who have served our country.

Timothy Ministry One App

Have you downloaded Timothy’s new app yet? Please contact Sandy Gregory in the church office (816.228.5300 Ext. 8035) with questions.  All modules except Check In (allowing for recording attendance at worship) and Discover (Timothy mission and information) are now available.

This Sunday, worshippers will receive a brochure inside the worship bulletin which explains the benefits of utilizing the Giving module. There is also an informative video on the church website (www.timothylutheran.com).
