In Jeremiah’s day and age, the land was filled with people who claimed to speak for God but were really telling people what they wanted to hear. Sound familiar? God’s people have always had to be content with false prophets who try to peddle false hope to them. But God reminds us that our only hope is to turn to Him and His powerful Word, for it is in Him that we find peace and security.
Send the Text. Make the Call: A Devotion
We passed in the hallway and chatted for a few minutes. Something inside made me want to go further, but I did not. Let’s be honest. How often do we want to extend a casual invitation but never follow through?
Now, now take a deep breath. Grace on. Guilt off. We intend to send the text and invite them over, but so often the “woulda, coulda, shoulda’s” create obstacles.
We’ve spent too much time in the last two years being lonely, isolated, and doubting how to move forward. Galatians 6: 2 tells us to, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
So many people are carrying heavy loads in their personal lives. By simply taking a moment to text, make a call or get a cup of coffee, we can help to lift some weight, to bear a little of the burden, and by doing so fulfill the law through love. Many times, showing up with our focused ministry of presence is enough.
Won’t you join us? Send the text. Make the call. Introduce yourself to the neighbors. Apologize. They all matter. And in doing so, Scripture declares that we fulfill the law of Christ.

Support Group Opportunities
DivorceCare: Are you divorced? Separated? You don’t have to go through it alone. Timothy has a support group that will help you during this time of change. We understand how you feel and have a real concern for those experiencing separation and divorce. This DVD-based program features Biblical teaching for those recovering from divorce and separation. Timothy’s group meets weekly in Room 102, RD Mize Campus, on Mondays, from 6:30-8pm, beginning Sept. 12, for 14 sessions. Contact the church office with questions or to register your attendance (816.228.5300).
GriefShare: When a love one dies, the grief that follows can be confusing and overwhelming. Support is available through a program called GriefShare, a DVD-based program that features Biblical teaching on grief and recovery topics. Timothy’s GriefShare group will meet weekly on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 15, for 14 sessions, in the Fireplace Room (302), RD Mize Campus. Contact the church office with questions or to register your attendance (816.228.5300).

Care Ministry Opportunities to Serve
Lutheran Hour Project Connect Tracts: Are you interested in overseeing the tract holders at the RD Mize Campus near the office entrance? This involves ordering new tracts and stocking the holders, as needed. Timothy covers the cost of the tracts which can also be accessed online. Estimated time for serving is 45-60 minutes monthly.
Greeting Cards: Did you know Timothy has a display case in the Fellowship Hall at the RD Mize Campus for purchasing reasonably-priced greeting cards which are purchased by the church or donated by members? As cards are purchased (honor system), you may be just the right person to restock the shelves inside the display case with cards stored in the lower part of the cabinet. Estimated time for serving is 30 minutes monthly. Prayer Shawl Coordinator: This ministry is a blessing to those needing prayers of support. The coordinator will help identify people who would benefit from a prayer shawl by checking weekly prayers, Prayer Chain, and/or asking Sandy Gregory in church office and then coordinating delivery of the prayer shawl to the recipient. Must be willing to make phone calls but will NOT crochet or knit the prayer shawls. Lucy Johnson will be in charge of making the prayer shawls and will work with the coordinator. Estimated time for serving is 30 minutes weekly.
Prayer Chain Coordinator: Timothy is seeking a new coordinator who will email prayer requests to member of the prayer chain. The prayers are received through Timothy’s website and from ministry staff. Individuals may also contact the coordinator directly by email. Coordinator will maintain email list, receive email address changes, and delete names from the prayer chain, as needed. Coordinator will also send a postcard to any members who have been prayed for, using a postcard and stamps provided by the church. Number of prayers sent are reported to Care Coordinator, Sandy Gregory. Estimated time for serving is one hour weekly.
It’s Timmy Burger Time!!
This year, Timothy’s Festival Committee is celebrating its 40th anniversary of gathering in fellowship to support the famous Steakburger traditions. Starting this Sunday, you can sign up in the lobby at either campus or click on the link or QR code provided here. Join the FUN and get your TIMMY BURGER! Timothy Lutheran School Update
The 2022-2023 school year is upon us, and there is so much excitement at our very own Timothy Lutheran School! Currently, total enrollment (full-time K-8, pre-school, and home-schooled) is 175 students! Yes, 175 students will walk through Timothy’s doors to grow in wisdom and knowledge and to hear about the life-giving news of Christ crucified and risen.
TLS welcomes four new teachers, joining our amazing veteran staff to provide a great education and great support to TLS families. Stephanie Hamilton and Melissa Bruening are teaming up as additional pre-school teachers, and Caitlin Bucy is an additional third grade teacher. In January, Tyler Hutton will join the staff as seventh/eighth grade teacher. This year, TLS will expand to offer an enrichment program for students who need extra support or extra challenges.
As you can imagine, with enrollment growing, more space is needed. The “trailer project” on north side of the building is slowly but surely coming along. This trailer will provide more space for all Timothy ministries at Wyatt, including classroom space. We praise God for increased enrollment and a very generous donor to fund the lease of trailers until permanent classrooms can be built!
First day of classes is Tuesday, Aug. 23rd, kicking off with chapel that will introduce this year’s theme, “Making Disciples for Life.” Please join us in praying for our teachers, staff, students, and families as the school year gets going. Thanks for being a part of what is happening at Timothy. Lives are being transformed! Call the school office (816.228.5300 Ext. 8017) to schedule a time to visit this year to see all that God is doing!

CREATIVE TENSION: As our youth return from the National Youth Gathering, we celebrate the experiences that they had and the ways that their faith in God has grown. We remind ourselves that Jesus is indeed in all things, that he is a part of our lives not only when we have “mountaintop experiences” like the Gathering, but also when we gather as a family of faith in our local congregation, and when we serve Him where He has placed us as His people.
LIFE after VBS: A Devotion
In the aftermath of VBS and an exciting Celebration Sunday, with no place to run to this morning, I looked at the news. War, fighting and death were the prevalent topics. COVID and monkeypox grabbed the headlines. What a vast contrast to the week of VBS and the mountain-top experience I shared with 170 children. Shutting off the television, I opened my Bible to John 14:27: Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.
God was inviting me to look at Peace. Maybe God was changing the way I defined peace and change where I looked for it. Living in a prosperous country is no guarantee of peace. But God offers a different kind of peace. Lasting. Unshakable. Perfect. When the whole world fractures or my own life shatters, the peace of Jesus is still available because the person of Jesus never changes.
Dear Jesus, thank You for offering a peace so different from what the world gives. Without You, my heart would be perpetually troubled. Fear would be a constant companion. I acknowledge that I can’t control my circumstances or strive for peace. I surrender my life and heart to You. Amen.
Discovery Class Prayer Request
Lord Jesus, bless Your people as we reach out to our community with Your Good News. We ask that You will bless the Word that we will be proclaimed in the approaching adult membership class starting on Wednesday,September 7. Gather the men and women You have chosen to hear Your saving Gospel. Do not let the evil one hinder them. Prepare this congregation to receive those You will gather around us. Amen.

CREATIVE TENSION: Yes, God is great, God is good. We know we are supposed to say that and believe that. But the truth is it’s easy to forget why we confess that. This past week we spent the whole week reminding ourselves how grand, majestic, and monumental our God really is. Now today we join with our VBS kids being reminded WHY He is just that!
Metamorphosis: A Devotion
I can still hear my granddaughter’s excited voice: “Grandma, come look!” Hovering over a bush, I spotted what had drawn her attention: a butterfly with paper-thin wings of pale yellow outlined in inky black. It felt sacred that this butterfly was letting us all lean in so close. This seemed like such a small thing. God used that butterfly to remind me of the miracle and metamorphosis that happens in us when we depend on Him through trials.
A science teacher explained to me that the most surprising part of the life cycle of a butterfly is that she starts as a caterpillar who cocoons in a chrysalis. This is where the metamorphosis or change happens. If you opened the chrysalis in this middle stage, you would see a goopy, unidentifiable mess. But patience will reveal the butterfly pressing through the walls of the chrysalis and emerge with fully-formed legs, eyes, and wings.
The apostle Paul illuminated this idea in a letter to the Corinthians: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” 2 Corinthians 5:17. We are completely transformed by the new life we experience in Christ.
Whenever I see a butterfly, I am reminded that surprising beauty emerges from that stage in our lies when we are squeezed tight, when we experience challenges, when we lean into grief and loss. That is when the metamorphosis of our heart happens.
VBS Wrap -Up
It has been a most excellent week at Vacation Bible School! Over 170 kiddos, along with countless volunteers (who made everything possible!), filled the building with energy and excitement in a MONUMENTAL way, celebrating God’s greatness in our lives.
Each day focused on a theme and corresponding Bible verse. Take a look . . .
Monday:God loves us no matter what (Psalm 89: 2)
Tuesday:God is with you everywhere (Joshua 1: 9b)
Wednesday:God is in charge (Psalm 147: 5)
Thursday:God is stronger than anything (Romans 8: 38)
Friday:God is surprising (Psalm 66: 5)
It was a joyful week to rally around God and His Word. Nor only that, but we raised money and collected items to bless two local ministries. Yes, indeed, Timothy! Lives are being transformed in Christ!
Please join us this Sunday, July 24, for our VBS Celebration as part of the 10am Wyatt service. Then please come to the VBS Reunion on Friday, Aug. 12th, from 5-7pm at RD Mize Campus to see what all these kiddos have learned. All are welcome!
Timothy Lutheran School’s NEW Book Buddies
Literacy Program
Literacy Program
Would you like to Join Us? Seeking Volunteers!
Timothy Lutheran School will intentionally focus on enhancing our students’ literacy skills. We seek volunteers who would like to increase our students’ skills and be part of our program during the 2022-2023 school year.
A commitment of at least one hour per week is requested. Our volunteers will be paired with a student for the year. Specific skills will be identified for fucus during the scheduled literacy enhancement time in collaboration with the classroom teacher. Books, as well as supplemental materials and activities, will be provided to assist with achieving targeted goals.
Literacy is a proven indicator of lifelong success. Our literacy program will tap into the knowledge and wisdom of experienced adults not only to build children’s reading skills but also to be caring role models.
Training for the program will be provided in August for individuals who indicate interest in this program, so a background in education is not required. A background check for school volunteers is required.
If you are interested in participating in this opportunity to serve Timothy Lutheran School students, please contact Mary Beth Self at marybeths@timothylutheranschool.com or call 816.228.5300. Thank you!

We are working to open our first 24/7 Virtual Center. This center will exist to offer answers and resources to empower the abortion-minded men and women to choose life. We could not fulfill this ministry without the generosity of churches like you. Rejoicing in Christ, Resource Health staff”

CREATIVE TENSION: The point of a living thing is to grow. That is why animals do what they do: to grow bigger and stronger and to live their lives. So what is the point of our living faith? Far too often, we allow it to stagnate and simply sit. But Paul makes it clear that we are to mature in Christ. So what does that mean, and what does it look like?
Am I Grateful or Do I Whine? : A Devotion
I was blessed to go to the KC Zoo with seven of my grandkids last Friday. As we pulled to a stop in the parking lot, my oldest whined, “I’m tired.” My response was less than stellar, but it got me thinking. Am I grateful for the times and people God has placed in my life, or do I whine just like the kids do? How do I practice gratitude?
We all need to try again, to use our words nicely, to say sorry and ask for forgiveness. So many people are talking about practicing gratitude. Gratitude changes our posture, and practicing gratitude means we must slow down our minds and our hearts to remember and recognize what we have to be grateful for. It helps us to make mental and emotional shifts throughout the day when it’s not going well, and it grounds us and gives us a better perspective.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4: 6-7
VBS IS HERE!!
It’s time!! It’s like Christmas, vacation and a sporting event all rolled into one! IT’S VBS!! Yes, that is what is inside my head! IT’S MONUMENTAL!!
What do I love about VBS? The transformation of the Church into a kid-friendly, exciting place? THE MUSIC! Loud and exciting! THE SNACKS, FRIENDS, GAMES!! The time we share how much our Savior is active in our lives! The times He shows his Power and the times He picks us up and cares for us.
Join us each day next week, July 18th through 22nd, beginning in individual classrooms at 8:45 and ending with a crazy closing at noon in the sanctuary. Meet the desert characters and watch Pastor Ryan’s and Pastor Rod’s antics as they share the message of the day. Follow us around as we learn about God’s awesome power through the life of Joseph and how salvation through Christ is found, even in the Old Testament. Make a craft each day to take the message home. IT’S REALLY HERE! My favorite time of year! Sharing and Caring with kids. It is truly monumental! I LOVE VBS!
VBS is for older kids also! Students in grades 6-12 are invited to attend VBS Swim Talks next week! Come hang out at the pool, swim, eat, and spend a little time in God’s Word! Take note of the schedule below. BRING YOUR FRIENDS!!
Check out this year’s VBS Mission Projects

NEXT GENERATION UPDATES PROGRESS!
We praise God that dirt is moving at Wyatt! Just in time to address significant increased enrollment at TLS for the upcoming school year! Timothy’s leadership realizes it’s been a while since communication has been shared with the congregation about the status of the TLS trailer project, but please understand that the Trailer Project Team, led by Gary Flandermeyer, has worked tirelessly and continuously for the past six months to move this project forward, including coordinating the completion of the engineering component, awarding construction and material contracts, and obtaining the construction permit from the City of Blue Springs, all of which was necessary before the start of any construction.
The project includes site preparation and infrastructure systems to support the installation of the first of two 27’x72’ trailer, which is necessary for this upcoming school year. The second similar trailer will be installed next summer. Each trailer will house two 850sq.ft. classrooms with bathrooms.
The construction permit from the City of Blue Springs was received this past Tuesday, July 12th, and the excavation subcontractor mobilized to the site that day to begin layout work. In the coming weeks, you will see construction activity around the Wyatt property for installation of plumbing and electrical feed systems to the first trailer. Currently, the first trailer is expected to be delivered to the site by Aug. 1st. In the coming weeks, watch for periodic updates about progress of this project, and feel free to drive by to see the work as it unfolds. We praise God for His guidance in allowing this important project to move forward and the gift of a gracious Timothy donor to allow it to happen!! Please pray for continued progress of this project.
Timothy’s leadership is also working hard concerning the details for the yard building at Wyatt (Raise the Roof project). As soon as all pertinent information becomes available, leadership will communicate with the congregation. Thanks for your patience and support, and please keep this project in your prayers as well. To God Be the Glory!
Friendship Club Hosts Prom
Timothy’s Friendship Club enjoyed a wonderful prom on June 24 with the theme, All We Need Is Love, and there was a lot of love all around! The Family Life Center was alive with 42 club members, 6 new members, 17 volunteers, and 16 parents/staff. Thanks to Sherry Holt who organized the dinner donated by Timothy ladies and to Terri Simpson for cookies donated by HyVee. Volunteers from the Blue Springs community assisted with painting the parade of hearts for decorations and donated helium tanks for the balloons. A special highlight of the evening was a collection of 225 personal hygiene items as love gifts for Community Services League.
Friendship Club is a huge outreach ministry to young people with different abilities from all over the Greater KC area. Only 2 are Timothy members, with all others from the BS community and neighboring areas such as Buckner, Holden, Independence, Lee’s Summit, Grain Valley, Concordia, KCMO, as well as Olathe and KCK on the Kansas side. Only 4 adult volunteers are Timothy members, with the others coming from all over as well. Friendship Club meets on the 4th Friday of each month in the Family Life Center and always welcome new members to join in the fun! This ministry began on Oct. 23, 2003, and looks forward to celebrating 19 years of giving love, hope, and fun to all the special people in the group. The world screams self-indulgence to us in every way, shape, or form. It encourages us to look out for number one, to make sure our needs and wants are met no matter what the cost is. But for the Christian, we are called on to look beyond ourselves to the needs of others, to keep our sinful self-centeredness under control for the sake of our neighbors. And this is possible only when our spirits are fed and nourished by God’s Spirit through Word and Sacrament.
One Step at a Time: A Devotion
God doesn’t expect me to be perfect. This is great news because I make a lot of mistakes. I say the wrong thing, I act out of selfishness, I tear down others to build myself up. The Gospel isn’t only for those who have it all together. The Gospel is also for those of us who are afraid, feel unsure, and aren’t courageous in the slightest.
Zacchaeus found that out. Living a life where he was known as a sinner because of his profession, he took the brave step of faith, desperate for a glimpse of Jesus. And Jesus responded. Luke 19:9-10 says, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
This story demonstrates that the good news of the Gospel is for everyone, including outcasts and sinners. Today, what if moving one step closer to Jesus looked like doing something out of the ordinary to see Him more clearly? You never know what that step of faith might lead to. There is salvation, beauty, and healing in this story.
National Youth Gathering Is Here! July 9-13 Houston, TX “In All Things”
To our church family, we want to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! It’s been a whirlwind of preparation, fundraising, and anticipation. Now the time has come as 24 youth and 6 adults will hop on a bus at 8am this coming Thursday, July 7th, to head to Houston until we return on the 14th. None of this is anywhere near possible without your love and generosity.
NOW we ask you to pray alongside us. Pray that our kids and adults encounter Jesus, that the Lord deepens the unity we have within our youth, that everyone attending will be kept safe, and that God’s glory will resonate in Houston. We look forward to sharing what God does when we return!
Hillcrest Transitional Housing Updates
Timothy’s Hillcrest apartment is now home to Jordan, who moved in this past Monday! He has settled into his new home and thanks Timothy for making this possible. He was previously homeless, living from his car, and came to Hillcrest with two shirts and couple pairs of pants. The Hillcrest staff also thanks Timothy for making the apartment “look so amazing!” Please keep Jordan in your prayers, and thank you for supporting this ministry!
Speaking of Hillcrest, please mark your calendars for the 22nd Annual Gala & Auction on Wed., Aug. 31,at the North Club Arrowhead Stadium, beginning at 6pm. Reserve your spot at our Timothy table now for just $75 per ticket if purchased through Timothy. Auction items with a minimum value of $50 will be collected through the church office by Aug. 4. To reserve your spot or to ask questions, please contact Nancy Nowiszewski (nancyn@timothylutheran.com).
Sand and Sunsets
It’s been getting so warm, the senior high youth hit the beach . . . kind of! On Tuesday night, 13 senior high kids and 4 adults hit up the sand volleyball court at Young Park for some rowdy action. Not sure who came out on top, but we’re still shaking the sand out of our clothes and hair. A good time was had by all, and Pastor Ryan prayed a blessing over the youth before the night ended. Thank you, Jesus, for our youth and a beautiful night to play!
Ongoing Food Donations
Timothy has collected non-perishable groceries for MANY years, probably one of its longest-running, if not the longest-running, ministries for those in need. The generosity of Timothy’s members to keep this outreach going for so long is much appreciated and one not taken for granted.
The June donations were delivered to Blue Springs Community Services League this week by Bill & Carol Ready. Thank you! The July donations are designated for Hillcrest Transitional Housing.
As food and gas prices have risen recently, all food pantries are seeing more families seeking assistance. Thank you, Timothy, for continuing to keep this ministry as an outreach priority. A box of cereal or a jar of spaghetti sauce helps fill our grocery carts and is so much appreciated.

When someone is said to be faithful, we think of them as being truthful. Trustworthy. We know we can believe what they say and count on them to be at our side when we need them. Sadly, we often struggle with this concept, watching out for number one and living only for ourselves. But God gives us an example of what true faithfulness looks like in Himself, for great is His faithfulness to us.
Bible Study Overwhelm: A Devotion
I’ve really only grown in my knowledge and love for the Word over the past few years, despite spending my entire life in the church. The big reason is because it always seemed so overwhelming to study.
The truth is that studying the Bible can feel daunting. There are many methods of study, but it’s important to recognize why we study the Bible to help motivate us. Studying Scripture reveals who God is, why we need Christ, and teaches us how to live like Christ.
As Christians, we are called to live like Jesus, to pursue a Christ-like life because it’s our actions that point others to Him. What better way to learn how to act like Christ than to study the book that was God-breathed! 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 says, All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Just like close friendships require communication and attention, so does our relationship with the Lord. And it starts with spending time in His Word. I won’t lie to you: it isn’t always easy. Whether we’re busy or we’re struggling to understand the passage we are reading, it can be hard sometimes. But it’s so worth it!

“Goodness” is a hard-to-define concept (unlike the rest of the fruit of the Spirit). Goodness seems to be a catch-all term that describes how the Christian lives his or her life overall. Do we display the goodness of God in our lives? Or do we instead show that sin is in control of our words, actions, and attitudes? Thanks be to God that He cleans us up and gives us His own goodness as a free gift through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Expectations: A Devotion
I pull up to the drive-thru and place my order. I anticipate that when I reach the window, a server will greet me, lean from the window towards my car, and deliver my food to me. We order from the menu, then expect to receive what we asked for. We ask, then we anticipate.
I recently came to understand that I have far less confidence in God’s desire or ability to give me what I ask for. As with the drive-thru, I ask, yet my follow-up indicates that I’m not certain God will provide what has been promised. God has consistently been faithful in my life, opening doors, sending people to help, and guiding me forward. As I reflected on God’s faithfulness, I see how my lack of faith caused me to needlessly labor and suffer. Many times, instead of asking and then anticipating God to deliver, I attempted to forge my way forward. This is like asking at the drive-thru, then getting out of my car, going inside to the kitchen, leaving the kitchen to run next door to the grocery store to pick up extra ingredients, returning to the restaurant, cooking my own food, and then serving it to myself. You see, I am great at ordering from God’s menu but need to get significantly better at expecting God to give me precisely what I asked for.
Jesus taught His disciples that when they are aligned with God’s will, they can ask and confidently anticipate that God will give them what they requested. He said in John 15: 7, “If you abide in me, andmy words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
When we abide in Jesus and align ourselves with God’s will, then our requests will align with God’s vision for our lives. Abide. Ask. Anticipate. It’s just that simple—as simple as the drive-thru.
Timothy’s Caring Support Continues
What a blessing Nancy Nowiszewski’s service as Care Minister has been to Timothy and the community for the past 17 years! Thank you, Nancy, for leading so many ministries and programs that provide love and support to people who struggle with life’s challenges. As she fully retires in August, we praise God for her servant heart and look forward to celebrating her continued service as a “volunteer.” Mark your calendars to attend a retirement potluck luncheon in her honor on August 21st at noon in the Family Life Center. More details soon!
Timothy’s Executive Board is pleased to share that current Member Services Sandy Gregory will serve Timothy as part-time Care Coordinator and part-time Member Services. As this new position develops, the board appreciates the congregation’s support where needed.
Bump City Fun
It’s a rare sight to see tired kids, but we saw it, with our own eyes, on Saturday night, June 4th. Approximately 60-75 Timothy youth met at Bump City to climb, slide, jump, and swing. We mixed it up a little with a few games, such as “The Floor Is Hot Lava,” tag, and even a limbo champ was crowned! Parents had a great evening of chillaxing and chatting while kiddos did their thing. And, yet, many kiddos went home tired. Thanks, Timothy, for supporting our children & youth ministry!
Adam’s Army Results
Thanks to all who donated at the June 5 Adam’s Army Blood Drive. Of the 41 volunteers who came to donate, 36 usable units were collected. If you donate blood throughout the year with the Community Blood Center, please let them know to credit our Timothy account. Just give the code CB3C. A special thank-you to Mary & Jeff Reed for leading this annual blood drive—now totaling 17!!
Live Well Community Fair
Last Saturday, the Live Well Community Fair offered a variety of information and services on living a healthy life as well as fund and food to the 150+ visitors who attended. Special appearances by the 501st Legion (Storm Troopers) plus Jessy & Thomas, the Comfort Dogs, were favorites for photo opportunities. Kids big and small enjoyed the 52’ challenge jump house. Special thanks to many Timothy volunteers who assisted with all of the details for this event!

Thank you, Gary!
Gary asks that Timothy also keeps Frank Eberhart, the pastor of Jesu el Buen, in our prayers, as his cancer has progressed.
Donations during the month of June will be delivered to BS Community Services League. Look for the donation bins in the lobby at each campus! Thank you!

We live in a world that seems designed to rob us of our patience. We have become used to instant gratification, give-it-to-me-NOW sorts of attitudes. And we can get that way when we are waiting for God to act. We may ironically demand patience from God right now and not want to wait. But God teaches us patience by showing patience with us. Our patience can flow out of the gracious patience that He has with us.
In Transition: A Devotion
My daughter recently sold their home. They are in transition with the change in homes, their son moving to a new school and life in general. I’m kind of weird in that I actually like change when God is leading. I think it’s exciting! Even when it’s God’s idea and I’m excited about what He’s doing, transitions are not easy.
Think about good but hard transitions in God’s word. There are many, but one is when Jesus’ followers were waiting for the arrival of the Holy Spirit.
And I [Jesus] will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. John 14: 16-17
God had worked a miracle—the biggest of them all: Jesus took the sins of the world away and conquered death. His followers had seen all the events and watched in astonishment as God lifted Jesus back to heaven, and now His followers had to wait on what Jesus had promised. They were in transition. So they waited and prayed.
It takes time for each of us to catch up with God’s plans, so we need to give ourselves space and time. The waiting in our lives is necessary so we can rely on God’s power and not our own. Know that we each have the power of the Holy Spirit in us no matter the circumstances.

Next Generation Update
Much has occurred since the Feb. 6th Special Voters’ Meeting when Timothy’s Voters’ Assembly approved the lease of two double-wide modular units (trailers) for additional, temporary TLS classroom space. All funding for leasing/ placing the trailers & necessary infrastructure is provided by a very generous Timothy donor. All praise and glory to God as this process addresses increased TLS enrollment.
One of the trailers (28’wide X 72’long, with two classrooms and two restrooms) will be installed directly north of the Wyatt Auditorium in July, with the second installed in July 2023. In addition to the trailer itself, infrastructure construction was involved to provide for electrical power, internet, water and sewer to each trailer.
Four contracts were planned, bid, and awarded: (1) civil engineering services; (2) lease for first trailer; (3) grading and underground piping; and (4) electrical construction to install necessary infrastructure. Drawings & designs were prepared by each contract which are substantially completed and used to support a construction permit application to the City of Blue Springs on May 19th. Currently, all contractors are procuring materials & equipment; construction is expected to begin next week for scheduled mid-August completion, in time for the 2022-2023 school year.
As the Trailer Team Leader, Gary Flandermeyer has relentlessly and meticulously monitored all steps of this process to ensure quality performance and deadline adherence as top priorities. It has not been easy, considering today’s supply shortages and other construction challenges. We praise God for Gary’s dedication and commitment to this project. Please continue to keep this entire process in your prayers.

We live in a world that seems to be the direct opposite of peace. We are surrounded by storms of all kinds that threaten to overwhelm us and drown us. Faced with those challenges, we can get upset when it seems like God isn’t paying attention or even napping. But God offers us a peace that insulates us from the storms of the world, that allows us to know peace that the world can’t give. That peace is rooted in our identity as His children through Christ.
Tears of Sadness: A Devotion
Facebook immediately brought tears to my eyes. On an ordinary day, a picture of my mother-in-law came up. Grief is a path chosen by none, yet eventually discovered by all and doesn’t care about our timetable. We all—every single one of us—will experience brokenness, pain, loss, and sorrow.
I’m convinced one of the most beautiful verses in all of Scripture is found in John 11:35—“Jesus wept.” Those two small words speak a powerful truth: No matter what we’re facing, we aren’t alone. It’s not only a display of kindness; it’s a picture of Jesus’ friendship. He didn’t run from pain or rush through sadness, didn’t say “hurry up” or “get over it.” Jesus came and Jesus cried.
Jesus isn’t disappointed that we’re still sad; He just comes closer to weep with us. He isn’t surprised by our despair or our anger; He gets angry with death, too. He might say, “Peace, be still” and calm the storm, or He might show us how to walk on the waves that threaten to overtake, but no matter what, Hope is not going to let us sink. Our friend Jesus is acquainted with grief and familiar with waves. We have a God who cries. We have a reason to hope.
Secret Talent Hiding in Our Midst
The Sanctuary Choir will sing a special song in both RD Mize services this Sunday, May 22. It is called “I’ve Been Redeemed” and was written and composed by one our own, Laurie Milbrodt.
Laurie is a woman of many talents, and God is using her to care for her family, befriend crazy Christian friends like me, and share her heart and faith through music. She and her daughter Leah have performed several of her original pieces during our Cancer Prayer Services, but this is the first time for Timothy’s choir to take an original and share it with our church family.
James 1: 17 tells us that every gift is from God. We all have different talents and God-given gifts. They are all important and can be used to God’s glory. Worship with us this Sunday and enjoy the talents God has placed in our midst.
In His Service,
Miriam Lindemann

Once again, we might get tripped up over how we define “joy.” We often see that as an emotional state, something that we experience when the outside factors around us line up correctly. We see joy as something that we can’t really control, so when we hear that Christians are to produce joy as part of our faith, we may think we have to fake it until we make it. But joy goes deeper than emotion. ‘JOY’ is the lens through which we look at life, a lens that is given to us because of whom we are in Christ.
Preparing Joyful Hearts
This Sunday, Pastor Ryan will continue the Fruit of the Spirit sermon series as he talks with us about “JOY.” He will encourage us to engage with the daily Scripture readings below in the week ahead. These passages will also be included in this Sunday’s worship bulletin. As you read, you are urged to focus on this question: What does each text teach us about JOY?
Monday, May 16: Psalm 16
Tuesday, May 17: Luke 15: 8-10
Wednesday, May 18: Isaiah 61: 10-11
Thursday, May 19: Luke 1: 39-45
Friday, May 20: John 16:16-24
Saturday, May 21: Deuteronomy 16: 13-15
Happy Joyful Reading!
How to Relax When You Feel Anxious: A Devotion
Anxiety is a part of our lives. I started noticing I was having trouble falling asleep. I whispered my prayer, “Please, God, you know how tired I am. Help me!” The minutes ticked away, hour by hour. I felt so exhausted. Why wasn’t God answering my prayer?
Sometimes we are such strong thinkers, pushing through to take care of others, getting work done, and juggling our responsibilities. We can get stuck in a state of heightened alertness that we don’t realize we are actually very stressed. So I began a new prayer. Instead of praying, Help me sleep or Take away my anxiety, I started asking God, “What does it mean to rest? Teach me how to relax.” One of the first Scripture passages that I asked God to help me better understand was a verse we often hear quoted: Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46: 10.
So I began to do two things to help me relax whenever I feel anxious:
I take action to explore what brings me peace and joy—practical things, such as drinking tea, reading a book, or taking a walk.
I pause to hear Jesus tenderly and lovingly calm my heart with a breath prayer to relax. You can do it, too! Here’s how: Put aside your work and worries for just a moment. Rest in God’s presence. Whisper this simple breath prayer to yourself: Relax. Yep, “be still” literally means relax, loosen your grip. Sometime today, do something that helps you experience what peace and joy feels like for you. If it’s an especially hard day, rest in the thought of Jesus holding you close in His arms. He is with you this very moment, whispering, “I will help you. I love you.”
Sharing Christ’s Love . . . Over a Brew!
When you completed the interest survey last fall, Timothy’s GO Commission noticed you all love breweries, wineries, & coffeehouses, and they are here to deliver! Let’s reach out to our community at TLM and beyond. It’s pretty simple:
Meeting spot: West side of Wyatt Campus parking lot near the playground
Parking is limited at Station 7, so we’re asking people to consider parking at Wyatt Campus and for volunteers to assist in shuttling people to & from Station 7
Remember, this is about reaching out into our community with a missional heart, not sticking with just us TLM people! (which is why GO is planning this & not GATHER). So be sure to invite people who might not otherwise walk through TLM’s doors.
Let’s get social and share the love of Christ with our community! Contact Emily Wilson (emilymwilson515@gmail.com) with questions.
Celebrating a Baptism at TLS Chapel: Transforming Lives through Christ
On Wednesday, May 4, TLS students witnessed Pastor Ryan baptize one of their classmates during weekly Chapel! Gracie Evans, a student in Mary Beth Self’s 7th grade class, was welcomed into Christ’s family through this sacrament. What a blessing!
While teaching lessons in Religion class about Jesus’ baptism & Nicodemus’ asking how to be born again, Mrs. Self observed that Gracie was listening intently. Later, when asked privately if she would like to be baptized, Gracie enthusiastically said, “Yes!”
Please keep Gracie in your prayers and may God bless and keep her in her baptismal grace! To God be the glory!
TLS Observes National Day of Prayer
Last Thursday, students at TLS observed the 2022 National Day of Prayer by learning about its purpose and then praying as a school for their families, school, church, community, state, country, and world! Students lined the hallway outside their classrooms, held hands, listened to Pastor Ryan share about this day, and then followed along as Pastor Ryan led them in prayer. Thanks to TLS teacher Kim Brunkhorst and Pastor Ryan for organizing this meaningful participation in National Day of Prayer!
