Take 10: The King Is Coming”

Throughout human history, God pictured the coming redemptive King through various images of His promise, providence, provision, and protection for His people. We could easily become down and out because of the evil of our world, and quickly give up because of the constant bad news. But hope, peace, joy, and love is the promise of our God for His people. Christ is the King of Glory! The Gospel is our only hope, as the King of glory comes in, with, and through the Gospel, as we were buried with Him in Baptism and raised with Him to a new life!

Devotion: “The Lie You Need to Kick to the Curb Today”

During times of trauma, we sometimes feel we are disposable! No one has to actually say those words, but in the upheaval and grieving we can be left with that feeling. During this time of transition at Timothy, there were times I told myself those words: You are disposable! You don’t matter! You are insignificant! As I look around on Sunday at my church family and listen to the message God has for me, I hear a different message. I matter. I am seen. I am valued. I am heard.

When we feel vulnerable, invisible, or forgotten, remember that God not only sees us, but comes alongside us and cares for us. Matthew 6:26 reminds us:

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”  

When lies try to deplete us, we can ask the One who sees us to remind us of our visibility, our value, and our significance, bringing us back to the truth. Rehearse truth’s song. Turn up the volume. You matter. You are seen. You are valued. You are heard.

LWML Sunday

Timothy’s annual observance of LWML Sunday will be celebrated this Sunday at both campuses. This year’s theme of “The King Is Coming” will be shared in the sermon message and at the display tables in the lobbies. Be sure to stop by to learn about LWML and how you can participate in proclaiming its mission of joyfully sharing Christ, supporting missions, and equipping women to honor God by serving.

Staying in the Boat

I have often wanted to write a devotion about John 21, staying in the boat.

Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.” John 21:7-8

Our faith, at times, asks us to step out into the water, but sometimes we need to stay in the boat and row to shore. There are those who faithfully serve, making sure the fish can be counted, the miracle is acknowledged, and God’s message can be shared.

We at Timothy have many servant hearts, and one of them is Gayl Calvin. She is stepping down from playing organ
more than 60 years in various congregations. During worship this Sunday, we will take a moment to rejoice at this life of service and her dedication to share His Word through the gift of music for so many years.

Veterans Day Program

Lutheran Urban Mission Agency Auxiliary (LUMAA)

The Lutheran Urban Mission Agency Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday, November 15 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 613 South Main, Independence, MO. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the opening service at 9:30 a.m. The speaker will be Lu Ann Ross from Hillcrest Transitional Housing. The Mission of the Month collection is winter necessities for food pantries: men, women and children’s socks, gloves, hats, scarves, new coats, long underwear for men/women and new blankets/quilts (full and queen). Children’s Fall Harvest Party

 All Timothy children and their friends are invited to a fun Harvest Party TONIGHT from 6-8pm at the Wyatt Campus. They will be treated to pizza, games, prizes, and opportunities to make new friends! Plan to attend!

Middle School Falloween

 
Tomorrow, Oct 21, 5:30-8 pm, all middle schoolers and their friends are invited to Falloween at RD Mize Campus. They will be treated to pumpkin carving, dinner, games, and prizes.

TLS Christmas Wonderland Shop

Again this year, the TLS Parent-Teacher League (PTL) is organizing a Christmas Wonderland Shop for TLS students to shop for gifts for their parents.

The congregation is invited to support this project by picking a gift tag from a Christmas tree in each lobby from October 18 through November 19.

The unwrapped gift items may be returned to the bin next to the tree before Nov. 19 so that the Christmas Wonderland Shop can be set up for students to shop the week of Dec. 4th. Thank you for your support!

Christmas Giving Trees

Now is the time to start thinking of families who may need some extra assistance at Christmas. If you know of an individual or family from our congregation or school who would be a candidate for our Giving Tree ministry, please submit their name(s), address and phone number in a sealed envelope and place in Sandy Gregory’s mailbox in the RD Mize Communication Center or contact her at 816.228.5300 (8042). Deadline to submit names is October 30 for the team to coordinate all necessary steps for a successful 2023 Giving Tree ministry.

A Giving Tree will be displayed at each campus starting Wed., Nov. 22nd, for members to choose tags and return the suggested gifts on Sunday, Dec. 10th, for Timothy’s annual Journey to the Manger. Gifts will be distributed to families suggested by Timothy members, Community Services League, Immanuel Lutheran in KC, and Our Redeemer in KC. Thank you for your generous support in the past. We look forward to this year’s gifts of love.

Pancake Breakfast

Everyone in the congregation is invited to a free pancake breakfast on Sunday, Oct. 29, in the lobby before the 10am service. Come early! The normal donuts will also be available. Timothy thanks new members Brad & Kathy Elledge for providing this fellowship opportunity!

GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays

As the holidays approach each year, Timothy’s GriefShare Group offers special help to those who are hurting. The “Surviving the Holidays” session will be Thursday, Nov. 2, 6:30-8pm in the Fireplace Room at RD Mize, led by Lois Warren and Susan Ready. All who grieve the loss of a loved one at any time in their lives are encouraged to attend and bring family and friends.
The event begins with a 35-minute video that will help you feel understood and encouraged. You will be given a Holiday Survival Guide full of tips on how to navigate the season, including coping with painful emotions, handling social events and traditions, and more.

Timothy’s DivorceCare support group invites members and their friends to the annual Surviving the Holidays: DivorceCare session on Monday, Nov. 13, from 6:30-8pm in the Fireplace Room at RD Mize, led by Kathy Wildschuetz and Christine Shaffer. This session will include practical suggestions and encouragement for managing the holidays after separation or divorce. Consolidation Update

The contract between Timothy Lutheran Church and Harvest Baptist Church was signed by leadership from both churches last Friday, Oct. 7, 2023. Closing of the sale will occur between Jan. 2 and Jan. 12, 2024.

Please plan to attend the first of two Town Hall Meetings THIS SUNDAY, Oct. 22, immediately following the 10am worship service in the Wyatt Auditorium.  Leadership and staff will be available to provide updates regarding worship services, auditorium changes, meeting & storage options, and financial impacts upon consolidation. There will be an opportunity for additional questions or further information regarding questions submitted to date. The second Town Hall will be Dec. 3rd after the 10am service as well.

Questions submitted since last week’s issue of Timothy Connects include:
1. Being involved in early meetings about Wyatt, I am wondering what happened to the original talks of a sanctuary.  By “original talks,” current leadership assumes the question refers to time Wyatt was originally built rather than the current phased construction plan in place for expansion. A new sanctuary was in the original plan, and current leadership feels it just changed internally. Over time it was felt the school was a priority, and that’s the direction the congregation supported as Timothy moved forward.

2.  Will there really be a traditional service?  Yes, a traditional service will be one of two offered each Sunday in the Wyatt Auditorium.

3. What time will the services occur? At its meeting on October 9th, after much discussion the Board of Elected Elders approved a contemporary service starting at 9am and a traditional service starting at 10:30am. This plan will be evaluated during the first few months of 2024 as will all plans regarding consolidation.

4.  If some activities are not possible at Wyatt, what is the plan for them? For daytime activities, leadership is in discussions with Pointe of Hope Church on North 7 Highway and possibly another local church. Most evening activities can be accommodated at Wyatt, except GriefShare and DivorceCare (by choice due to confidentiality considerations connected to those ministries) which are also in discussions with Pointe of Hope.

5.  What will happen to the beautiful cross presently on the stage at Wyatt? As of now, a decision about this cross has not been made.

6.  As the school makes adjustments for one building, I’m curious when Mr. Holland will receive his call as principal of Timothy? We are excited to celebrate with him. When and how can the school begin to plan for Ken’s installation? Who makes the decision? Mr. Holland has completed all colloquy requirements to be a LCMS rostered principal. The current Call Committee and Executive Board will plan the details of asking the congregation to approve a call to Ken as the rostered TLS principal.

The congregation is urged to submit questions to expedite the discussion. Those can be submitted on Timothy’s website by clicking on Church, then Next Generation, or by clicking on submission button on congregational email sent on Monday, Oct. 9, at 10am.

As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
Take 10: Prayer”

As we join Jesus on His mission, it’s good for us to keep each other accountable by asking the Take 10 questions. It’s good to encourage one another as we share what God is doing in our lives, how He’s teaching us in His Word, as we talk to our friends and neighbors and do good for those in our lives. But it’s also vitally important that we support one another in prayer so that we may carry the burdens that others may be feeling.

Devotion: “When I feel out of Sync, Maybe I’m Right on Time

To be clear, I love choir, working together for one hour of struggling and accomplishing the sounds of music, both dissident and melodic. But two Wednesdays ago, I was out of sync. Maybe it was because I was worn out that day, or I didn’t prepare enough. Maybe my allergies were clogging my ears, and I just couldn’t hear the rhythm.

One of my favorite artists, Mary Engelbreit, has a piece that features a frazzled-looking lady and a caption that reads, life is just so daily. I relate to that wild-haired statement deep in my soul, wondering if that’s it, that I’m just so buried in the daily, which I usually feel sparkles with ordinary glory. I think about Jesus living His short, full, very real life here on Earth, and I wonder if He saw the glory in the daily. Did He ever struggle with work? Stress out over the dishes? Feel behind on all that He knew needed to be crammed into just a few years?

Then these words in Ecclesiastes come to mind, of seasons and turning and timing, and one phrase leaps out to my heart from them: “I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart…”Ecclesiastes 3:10-11 NIV

We can know there is a place for burdens when our hearts get bogged down, standing right between everything God has made beautiful, with the knowledge of eternity. Every step we take is all in His time, and there’s a grace and relief in that. When time flies, time is His. When it drags on and on, it’s His. Even when it feels off-beat, it’s His.

This may be the first, second, third or more holiday season after the loss of your loved one(s). This special session may help you through the tough emotions the holiday season brings. Due to the nature of Thanksgiving and Christmas, with its focus on family, annual traditions, social events, and “cheer”, the emotions can blindside you. You can lessen the impact by knowing what to expect and being prepared.

Practical tools from the GriefShare “Surviving the Holidays” session will enable you to not only survive the holidays but also face them with some peace and assurance. Consolidation Update

Consolidation Update
Timothy’s leadership will host a Town Hall Meeting on Sunday, Oct. 22, in the Wyatt Auditorium immediately after the 10am service, to share consolidation progress and answer questions. Please plan to attend! The meeting will be recorded for placement on church website, but not live-streamed. Postcards about the Town Hall Meeting were mailed on Friday, Oct. 6. If you did not receive one, feel free to call the church office.

The congregation is urged to submit questions prior to the meeting to expedite the discussion. Those can be submitted on Timothy’s website by clicking on Church, then Next Generation, or by clicking on submission button on congregational email sent on Monday, Oct. 9, at 10am.
To date, the following questions have been submitted:

1.  Will the meeting be live-streamed?  As noted above, the meeting will be recorded but not live-streamed due to lack of personnel for that after the service.

2.  When will Pastor John be back?  Pastor John’s sabbatical concludes on Sunday, Nov. 12. He will return to his office on Monday, Nov. 13.

3.  What items from the sanctuary will be moved to Wyatt? The baby grand piano is scheduled to move to Wyatt on Jan. 3rd. Plans are still developing to move the altar, hanging cross, and banners.

4.  Who is making the decisions on the worship schedule? Will there be any opportunity for input from the congregation? The elders are responsible for organizing the worship at Timothy. They are working with the pastors and staff to create Timothy’s new worship schedule. Please contact Acting Director Tary Krahenbuhl or any of the elected elders to provide input for worship schedule or content. All suggestions will be taken under advisement to create the best possible worship experience for Timothy.

5.  We have heard that the grand piano will be moved to Wyatt. What about the organ? If not, is there a plan in place for purchasing another instrument with a full sound like the current organ? There are no plans to move the current organ to Wyatt, per recommendations from music ministry staff. Currently, there are no plans to purchase another instrument, subject to re-evaluation in the upcoming months.

6. Regarding the next generation, once we have consolidated at Wyatt, will we revisit the current plans to see if they meet our needs? Due to the three+-year pause caused by the pandemic and God’s hand in providing a buyer for RD Mize before starting Phase 1 at Wyatt, the Next Generation process moving forward needs to be re-evaluated. The congregation is urged to participate as strongly as it did in the early months of 2020 when various task forces worked hard to start the process.

7. What kind of research/studies did we perform to choose any updates made? Leadership is not clear what this question specifically references.

8. Will the benches and plaques placed on the RD Mize property be moved to Wyatt?  Yes

9.  How are you keeping children in school safe after the consolidation; consider inside and outside cameras for security?  Upon consolidation, the school day for pre-school & elementary students will operate as it does now with safety & security a high priority. Doors are locked throughout the day with admittance only by assigned keycards or by office staff after reason for visit is approved. The front desk staff will monitor “traffic” in and out of the building while sitting in the hallway just outside the south entrance to the Auditorium. Currently, camera surveillance monitors the main hallway, administrative offices, and school hallway. Cameras need to be installed outdoors. In addition, during the school day (including Before School Care and After School Care), no “church” activities will occur at Wyatt, just as they do not now. Plans for location of church activities are in process, with updates shared at the first Town Hall Meeting with any necessary modifications shared at the second Town Hall Meeting. Once finalized, those plans will be publicized as soon as possible.

2024 Germany & Austria Tour with MO District President Lee Hagan

MO District President Lee Hagan and his wife will host a 2024 tour of Germany and Austria. You are invited to join them on this journey through the German and Austrian alps down the Reformation Road. From the majestic beauty of the German alps surrounding the storybook castle Neuschwanstein and the Eagle’s Nest at Bechtesgaden to Mozart’s Salsburg and the Austrian hills, the tour will explore the breathtaking sights and sounds of this region. As the journey turns north, the group will explore the history of Martin Luther and the Reformation. One of the highlights of the tour will be visiting Wittenberg for the annual festival commemorating Martin and Katie Luther’s wedding. Group events will include a Rhine River dinner cruise, beer-tastings at a Bavarian brewery, and dinner at a Bavarian Biergarten. Other historical sites will include visiting the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz and the J.S. Bach Museum in Eisenach along with the famed Wartburg Castle. As We Gather for Worship This Weekend

“Take 10: Do”

When God calls on us to join Jesus on His mission, it’s not just about talking. It’s also about doing. We are called on to work to make the world better for the people in our lives: our family, friends, neighbors, and community. We are called to shine the light of Jesus through what we do. But the best part is this: Jesus is the One who prepares those good works for us to do in advance. We just follow where He’s leading so that we can do what we are called to do.

Devotion: “Simply Living Out Our Faith”

As I let the antsy teen driver go first at the four-way-stop, I smile, even if no one is around to observe. When we live out our faith, God is glorified.

I’ve grown frustrated and admittedly judgmental toward the absence of civility among people. Social media loves to stir the pot. And yet that doesn’t give any of us permission to be rude or hateful. Quite the contrary! As people created in the image of God, we have the privilege of reflecting His character.

“Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them…. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:29-32

Every interaction with others is an opportunity to love well and bring glory to God. We never know whom might be watching, and our words and actions might just be preaching a message they need to hear.

OASIS Family Night


The next OASIS family night is Oct. 11th. This new program is offered on the second Wednesdays so families can gather together for a free, catered meal from 6-6:30pm in the Family Life Center and then break out into separate education and fellowship activities for both students and parents. Resources will be provided for family devotions at home on the other Wednesdays of each month. LWML KC South Zone Fall Rally


LWML MO District KC South Zone 2023 Fall Rally will be Tuesday, October 24, 2023, with the theme “Christ Our Anchor” based on Hebrews 6:19. Timothy LWML will host this rally. Program: REHOPE – Restoring Survivors of Human Trafficking. Gifts from the Heart: Monetary donations for REHOPE Farms (checks payable to LWML MO District KC South Zone). Registration begins at 9am; opening devotion at 9:30am. Cost is $5 (includes lunch). Called Staff Appreciation Month

The month of October is traditionally celebrated as Clergy Appreciation Month. For many years, Timothy has included all of its called (rostered) employees in this special recognition. In addition to Pastors John and Ryan, TLS teachers Kim Brunkhorst, Beckie Hatcher, Jill Otte, and Mary Beth Self are rostered with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

We praise and thank God for all of Timothy’s staff! Members are encouraged to keep all Timothy staff in your prayers and extend words of thanksgiving, encouragement, and appreciation as you have opportunity. There are some simple “thank-you” note cards at each Information Center if you care to pick one up for a special note to someone.

TLS Christmas Wonderland Shop

Again this year, the TLS Parent-Teacher League (PTL) is organizing a Christmas Wonderland Shop for TLS students to shop for gifts for their parents.

The congregation is invited to support this project by picking a gift tag from a Christmas tree in each lobby from October 18 through November 19.

The unwrapped gift items may be returned to the bin next to the tree before Nov. 19 so that the Christmas Wonderland Shop can be set up for students to shop the week of Dec. 4th. Thank you for your support!

Christmas Giving Trees

Now is the time to start thinking of families who may need some extra assistance at Christmas. If you know of an individual or family from our congregation or school who would be a candidate for our Giving Tree ministry, please submit their name(s), address and phone number in a sealed envelope and place in Sandy Gregory’s mailbox in the RD Mize Communication Center or contact her at 816.228.5300 (8042). Deadline to submit names is October 30 for the team to coordinate all necessary steps for a successful 2023 Giving Tree ministry.

A Giving Tree will be displayed at each campus starting Wed., Nov. 22nd, for members to choose tags and return the suggested gifts on Sunday, Dec. 10th, for Timothy’s annual Journey to the Manger. Gifts will be distributed to families suggested by Timothy members, Community Services League, Immanuel Lutheran in KC, and Our Redeemer in KC. Thank you for your generous support in the past. We look forward to this year’s gifts of love.

Next Generation Update

Timothy’s leadership will host a Town Hall on Sunday, Oct. 22, in the Wyatt auditorium immediately after the 10am service, to share consolidation progress and answer questions.  Look for a postcard in the mail soon. Please plan to attend! The meeting will be recorded for placement on website, but not live streamed.

Please note also that a second Town Hall Meeting will be held on Sunday, Dec 3, in the Wyatt Auditorium immediately after the 10am service, to share additional updates following the first Town Hall. It also will be recorded. The Annual Voters’ Meeting is rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 7, in the Wyatt Auditorium immediately after the 10am service.

As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
Take 10: Conversations”

Sometimes the hardest thing we can do is come alongside a family member, a friend, or a neighbor and talk about their faith. It becomes even harder when those conversations happen with someone who isn’t a Christian. But God calls us to those conversations so that we can ultimately point people back to Jesus and what He can do for them.

Devotion: “Your Treasure Is Meant to Be Shared”

On Good Morning America they were talking about found money. There were people rejoicing over $100 like a treasure that had been lost and was found. It made me smile as I watched them hoot and holler. (They were in Texas)

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Mathew 6:20-21

We carry within us the greatest Love — One who died so we could live, One that compels us to die to ourselves so others can also live. This Love is the strength that carries us when we don’t think we can go another step. He’s the path that shows us where to go when nothing makes sense. God lives within us, and He wants to show Himself to those around us, to the world, through our imperfectness, so others can see Him clearly. His treasure of His love is meant to be shared.

On Monday, September 25, Timothy’s leadership received the initial draft of the purchase agreement from Harvest Baptist Church. Timothy’s attorney and Real Estate Task Force are reviewing it in preparation for a final agreement in place by mid-October.

As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
Take 10: Word”

It’s so important for us to stay connected to God’s Word. The Word has power behind it, bringing about change and transformation in the ways that God wants. We pray that God would make us receptive to what His Word can teach us and do for us so that we may produce good fruit in keeping with our faith.

Devotion: “How Much Longer?”

“How much longer?” the small voice asks from the car seat. I smile at my granddaughter, but after the third time, I realize: This is the very thing I’ve been asking God. Day after day. Prayer after prayer after prayer. I wait and pray. Wait and wonder, “How much longer, God, until You heal what’s broken?”

It isn’t that we don’t trust God’s goodness and sovereignty. We’re strapped in, seat belts buckled, certain that God will bring us all the way Home, but waiting is hard. Waiting is woven throughout Scripture.

Noah didn’t build the ark overnight. Sarah and Abraham longed for a child. The Israelites wandered in circles for forty years.

What we want is a miracle — and instead, we receive just enough strength to carry through the day. One day “how much longer” will be no longer. But for today, we pray “on earth as it is in heaven.” We remember that God will not be rushed, but neither will He be late. We wait and we trust: God really is going to carry us through.

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
 Isaiah 46:4

Timmy Burgers Thanks Everyone!


THANK YOU, TIMOTHY!! The Festival Committee is most appreciative of the outpouring of support for its major outreach and fundraiser event at the Fall Fun Fest last weekend. They report that everything about this year’s effort was the most successful in a long time, everything from prayerful support to willing volunteers to efficient organization.  It was just a lot of fun to fellowship with each other and the community. Timothy thanks the Festival Committee for its phenomenal “down-to-a-science” planning and implementation. To God Be the Glory!

Called Staff Appreciation Month

The month of October is traditionally celebrated as Clergy Appreciation Month. For many years, Timothy has included all of its called (rostered) employees in this special recognition. In addition to Pastors John and Ryan, TLS teachers Kim Brunkhorst, Beckie Hatcher, Jill Otte, and Mary Beth Self are rostered with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

We praise and thank God for all of Timothy’s staff! Members are encouraged to keep all Timothy staff in your prayers and extend words of thanksgiving, encouragement, and appreciation as you have opportunity. There are some simple “thank-you” note cards at each Information Center if you care to pick one up for a special note to someone.

Timothy’s Tithes Appreciated

Timothy continues to support organizations through its commitment to send 10% tithes on a regular basis. Below are excerpts from two thank-you letters received this week.

From Community Services League  —  “Thank you for your recent gift of $1,157.45 to Community Services League. Your support allows us to maintain neighborhood-based social services that are accessible and helpful to families. This year we assisted more than 20,000 individuals in need. We provided direct aid of more than $36M for rent, utility, and mortgage assistance, saving 7,000+ families from eviction. We helped our 500th community member with a disability achieve an employment milestone. The list goes on and on . . . Thank you for your generous support.”

As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
Take 10: How did you SEE God at work in your life this week?”

Sometimes it’s difficult to see how God is already at work around us. Circumstances in life obscure His action or distract us, getting us to focus on the wrong things. But God has the ability to open our eyes to see how He is at work in our lives already, because Jesus is on the loose and He is already at work. May He open our eyes fully to see how He is working in our relationships and neighbors!

Devotion: The God of All Comfort Remembers

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Emails this past week were difficult. Worship in the R.D. Mize sanctuary was challenging. I remember. All the weddings, funerals, baptisms, children’s programs. But God has a plan. I remember, through all the challenges during my faith walk, God has always been there and brought me through with the support of my Timothy faith family. I know He will continue His faithfulness.

Moving forward, there will be times and people who need our comfort. Let’s sit in these words from 2 Corinthians. The Father of mercies and the God of all comfort is with us. He has not forgotten us, and as we are comforted by Him, may we offer the same tenderness to others. Preparing to rejoin our faith family and build a new place of worship is frightening and exciting. Pray for our leaders during this challenging time of transition.

Consolidation  Update

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

To God Be the Glory! The speed with which He is moving through His servants at both Timothy and Harvest Baptist is incredible. God is leading Timothy forward in our vision of transforming lives through Christ at one campus as well as keeping the RD Mize Campus as a worship center for another church to share the Good News of Jesus!

After Timothy’s letter to the congregation last Thursday, Timothy’s Next Generation Real Estate Task Force suggested some revisions to the Letter of Intent from Harvest Baptist to purchase the RD Mize Campus at a fair market value of $3,250,000. Leadership at Harvest agreed to the suggested revisions and directed its attorney to incorporate those revisions into the document. By Monday of this week, Timothy’s leadership received the revised Letter of Intent, again reviewed and agreed upon by the Real Estate Task Force. On Tuesday, September 12th, leadership from both churches signed the final draft of the Letter of Intent. The Real Estate Task Force is preparing a final report for the Executive Board, outlining its work over the past six months. It will be shared with the congregation as well. The next step in this process is receiving a contract from Harvest Baptist on or before October 10, with closing on or before December 8, 2023, both of which are agreeable to Harvest. Even after the closing date, Timothy will continue its normal RD Mize ministries through the end of December, including Advent and Christmas services as scheduled.

Plans to address all aspects of moving to one campus at Wyatt are progressing well. The Board of Elders and worship leaders are developing plans for two worship services at Wyatt starting in January. The Executive Board is collaborating with staff and worship leaders for the move to Wyatt as well as investigating options for meeting and storage spaces. Leadership looks forward to sharing all those details as they are finalized.

We continue to trust God in moving forward: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

We understand that with change comes excitement, anxiety, and grief. We praise and thank God for His guidance throughout this process and ask for the congregation’s continued prayers as this journey moves forward.

OASIS Family Night a Huge Success 

The OASIS Family Fellowship Night was the place to be on Wednesday! Over 60 kids and their families enjoyed an Italian dinner, fellowship with Christian friends, and faith experiences with multi-age small groups. Make plans to attend the next Family Night on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 6-7:30pm. Dear Saints in Blue Springs,
I am grateful for your partnership in this ministry in Taiwan, even as you do God’s work in reaching people in Missouri. Recently, I have been taking missionaries to doctor appointments and train stations, shopping for large items, further studying the Chinese language, and completing my deaconess classes. I look forward to possibly visiting with you next summer when I am Stateside for serving at home. I praise God for you!

As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
Encouraging!

As we join Jesus on His mission, it’s good for us to find encouragement. It can be challenging to share the hope that we have. Part of what we do as the body of Christ is to encourage one another. That’s part of what we do when we engage in the Take-10 Questions. But we also find encouragement when we listen to Christ, the Son whom God loves, and join Him where He is leading us.

Devotion: His Mercies Are New

As I drive down I-70, I am listening to the radio, but, really, I am not listening at all . . . because I am listening to the one thousand voices in my head going on and on about all the things that overwhelm me. The emails left unchecked and the pills I forgot to take. Every trivial matter spirals as I think about the people I’ve let down. The guilt comes uninvited.

I need the fresh reminder of God’s mercy right now; I need the reminder that His love knows no bounds. Right here in my car, with nothing mystical or magnificent happening, I feel God and His presence and the promise of His steadfast mercy.

Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

This passage of Scripture can carry us through. We can be assured of God’s unfailing love which is new every morning and carries us through every night. Though the weight of sin may feel oppressive, His mercies are new every morning, stretching wide and reaching deep to cover us for any reason at any time in any place.

Timothy Receives Letter of Intent to Purchase RD Mize Campus

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

To God be the Glory! For nearly fifteen years, Timothy has had a goal to consolidate to one campus. Through times of recession, COVID 19, and financial struggles, we’ve been faced with one question: “Is now the right time?” Over the past six months, God has made it evident that He is leading Timothy into a new chapter in the life of the church to gather together in transforming lives through Christ. It now appears that in God’s timing He is blessing Timothy’s transition to one campus and retaining the RD Mize campus to share the Good News of Jesus!

Yesterday afternoon (Sept. 5), Timothy’s leadership received a Letter of Intent to purchase the RD Mize Campus from Harvest Baptist Church at a fair market value of $3,250,000. Timothy’s Next Generation Real Estate Task Force and legal counsel are reviewing the letter to send a recommendation to the Executive Board. God is leading Timothy forward in our vision of one campus.

We understand that with change comes excitement, anxiety, and grief. We praise and thank God for his guidance throughout this process and ask for the congregation’s continued prayers as this journey moves forward.

Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Putting our continued trust in God is the way forward. Let us set aside our anxieties, doubts, and fears, and turn it all over to Him.

TOGETHER- JOINING JESUS


A new sermon series following the five questions of Joining Jesus will start THIS SUNDAY, Sept. 10th. To stay intentional and consistent with a mission lifestyle, we also need a little help from our friends during the week. While we support each other by doing “Take-10” during family meals, in existing church groups, or with Jesus-following friends in our neighborhoods, workplaces, or schools, we also invite you to get together and intentionally experience Take-10 together from Tuesday, Sept.12 through Tuesday, Oct. 17.

In our gatherings on these Tuesday evenings, we will together discuss the Five Questions for reflection and conversation about how life on mission with Jesus is going and where it can lead the conversations, encouragement, insight, accountability, and practice we need to further develop our skills for Joining Jesus in everyday life.

This fall, Timothy’s Children’s Ministry is organizing a Family Fellowship Night called OASIS on the second Wednesday of each month from 6-7:30 pm at RD Mize, starting Sept. 13th. This new program is offered as an alternative to CrossWalk classes so that families can gather together for a free, catered meal from 6-6:30pm in the Family Life Center and then break out into separate education and fellowship activities for both students and parents. Resources will be provided for family devotions at home on the other Wednesdays of each month. Timmy Burgers Volunteer Sign Ups Update

Thanks to all who have volunteered for one or more shifts for this year’s Timmy Burger fundraiser!  The current greatest volunteer needs are setting up the booth on Thurs. evening (Sept 14), booth workers from 4 pm to closing on Fri. (Sept 15), and tearing down the booth on Sun. afternoon/evening (Sept. 17). Encourage a friend to work alongside you! Volunteers earn a coupon for a free Timmy burger for each shift worked. Timothy’s Mary Martha Circle Supports
KC Care Organization

As a summer service project, Timothy’s LWML Mary Martha Circle chose to assist Cornerstones of Care in Kansas City, an organization serving children and families who typically experience significant trauma with potential to affect their mental, physical, and behavioral health with long-term and life-altering consequences. They provide youth/family support, foster care/adoption, and education/training.

Sisters in the Mary Martha Circle purchased and delivered items of clothing for boys and young men, such as 150 pairs of socks, 55 pairs of boxer shorts/briefs, pajamas, shorts, shirts, & jeans (it seems they are sometimes slighted compared to shopping for girls!) as well as bath towels/wash cloths, sheets, laundry baskets, and games.

Donna reports it was a pleasure assisting these boys and young men as they concentrate on building brighter futures through the safety, schooling, treatment, and support services provided by Cornerstones of Care. As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
Not Digging the Plan!

So we enter into our 3rd week of asking the question…What do you believe about Jesus? We’ve heard some powerful confessions the past 2 weeks. Yet today it’s not about simply who Jesus is but what He has planned that challenges us most.  With Peter we struggle to believe God’s plan is good. So let’s check our heart and consider what God calls us to.

Patience Via Prime

Who loves waiting for something to happen that is out of your control? Answer: Not me.

God designed the Fruit of the Spirit as a complete set of what the Holy Spirit grows in our lives. I’d like to cherry pick the fruits I want, like love, joy, or kindness, off the Fruit of the Spirit tree and leave patience hanging for someone else.

I don’t enjoy being impatient. I want to pray, “God, take as long as You’d like.” However, once I say “Amen,” I usually expect God to deliver an answer via Amazon Prime in two days or less, preferably overnight shipping.

“But those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings like eagles; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.” Isaiah 40:31
This journey of patience is often where we can have the most impact in our Christian lives. If God instantly gave us what we wanted, we might not stop to look around at what other people need.

God knows that our waiting is hard, but don’t jump ahead just because we’re tired of waiting. Perhaps our prayer today could be: “God, while I’m waiting, please use me to make a difference. Work through me, God, for Your glory and my good. Amen.”

Clearing Wyatt Ditch

Have you noticed the cleared ditch at Wyatt? Last Saturday, a determined group of people “attacked” that project with gusto! Many thanks to Louie Wilbers, Don McGhee, Joe Sauter, Alex Fullerton, Jon Brown, Justin Wulff, Doug Spilker, Bob & Sandy Logan, Dave Madden, Tary Krahenbuhl, and Bruce Wands who volunteered their time for this and other outdoor work at Wyatt. To God Be All the Glory!

Backpacks (And Students) Blessed to Be a Blessing


Last Sunday, students in both services were encouraged to be a blessing to others by remembering what their small gift from the church means in this big world of ours. Each student received a penny (“cent”) with an engraved cross as a reminder that each of them is “sent” into the world to be Christ-like in all of their relationships. Many thanks to the GATHER Commission for providing a very colorful, engaging backdrop for photos of students and their backpacks as they start a new school year.

TOGETHER- JOINING JESUS


A new sermon series following the five questions of Joining Jesus will start on Sept. 10th. To stay intentional and consistent with a mission lifestyle, we also need a little help from our friends during the week. While we support each other by doing “Take-10” during family meals, in existing church groups, or with Jesus-following friends in our neighborhoods, workplaces, or schools, we also invite you to get together and intentionally experience Take-10 together from Tuesday, Sept.12 through Tuesday, Oct. 17.

In our gatherings on these Tuesday evenings, we will together discuss the Five Questions for reflection and conversation about how life on mission with Jesus is going and where it can lead the conversations, encouragement, insight, accountability, and practice we need to further develop our skills for Joining Jesus in everyday life.

As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
A Comforting Confession

Throughout time, the people of God have throughout time made a confession of their faith as to whom God is.  Perhaps no one articulated it quite as well as Peter when he said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” While this bold confession may be one we share, the question is, “What does that really mean and why does that even matter?” Let’s let Jesus unpack that for us this Sunday in worship..

Kind Words

Years ago, I trained for CPR on a practice dummy. It involved putting my mouth to its mouth and breathing into the lungs to raise the chest.  It was a lot harder than I thought. But it was important to know how to use my mouth to bring life.

As Christians, it is important to check in regularly with ourselves regarding how we use our mouths. Kindness is demonstrated through good words. With every breath, we have the opportunity to say words that destroy or words that bring life.

Nobody is perfect. But with how we talk to others, we can show them that the goodness of God is worth discovering and enjoying. We can allow them to have a taste of God’s kindness by how kind we are to them.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

Kindness is contagious and begins with words. We are not alone; the Holy Spirit will speak through us if we simply breathe words of kindness sharing God’s grace and love.

Raise the Roof Update

On Aug.17, Property Board Chair Louie Wilbers and Gary Flandermeyer met with the City of Blue Springs planning and other related city departments to discuss Timothy’s ideas about the storage building at Wyatt. They report this was a good meeting with favorable feedback about the project. Timothy’s next steps include submitting a site admin plan and permit application for their review. Preliminary renderings are included here, with more details available soon. Please keep this part of the Next Generation process in your prayers. Your contributions to fund this project are appreciated, payable to Timothy and designated as “Raise the Roof,” whether by check or on Timothy’s website (click on Give, then Fund). Sabbatical Update

Timothy thanks the congregation for its prayers and support of ministries during Pastor John’s sabbatical. Pastor Ryan will preach most of the weekends, with Pastors Lieb and Rod assisting in this area as well. Pastor Rod will also lead worship at Wyatt every Sunday throughout the sabbatical as well as assist with Joining Jesus-related ministry, funerals, and  worship announcements & slides. Pastor Lieb will assist with Care Ministry with visits and phone calls. Timothy thanks Jon Kraft for leading the Tuesday Morning Adult Bible Study in the Fellowship Hall, starting Sept. 5, until Pastor John returns. Please continue to pray for all of Timothy’s servants. Timothy’s leadership thanks the congregation for serving and volunteering as you see a need.

This new program is offered as an alternative to CrossWalk classes so that families can gather together for a free, catered meal from 6-6:30pm in the Family Life Center and then break out into separate education and fellowship activities for both students and parents. Resources will be provided for family devotions at home on the other Wednesdays of each month. Gospel Quartet Concert Well Attended

Last Sunday afternoon served as a relaxing time for a Southern Gospel Quartet Concert in the sanctuary. Over 100 people were uplifted through the quartet’s talents of singing about our Savior and then enjoyed ice cream and desserts in the Family Life Center. The Senior Adult Ministry and GATHER Commission thank Price Chopper for donating gallons of ice cream and to members who donated brownies and cookies for the ice cream social. To God Be All the Glory!

Timmy Burgers Volunteer Sign Ups

It’s almost Timmy Burger time! Timothy’s Festival Committee needs volunteers in several areas for maximum success in reaching the community with the love of Jesus through its famous burgers during the Fall Fun Fest in downtown BS from Sept 15-17.To date, signups produced 100 volunteers filling shifts toward the annual goal of 300. We still have openings everywhere. Come join us for some Fun and Fellowship.

Table Scraps

You have to feel sorry for the Canaanite woman in today’s Gospel lesson. She had a problem, she hoped Jesus would be able to help her, and she gets called a dog for her troubles. But she doesn’t give up. She has faith that holds on to the things she’s heard about Jesus. And as a result, she winds up asking for table scraps. Because of her trust, Jesus gives her so much more. And He does the same for us, His dearly loved children, giving us not what we deserve, but what He wants to give us out of love.

Everything You Need

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. Psalm 23′:1

As I watch the devastation of the fires in Maui, I see people searching to fill their daily needs. It fills my prayer life, and I praise God for the wealth He has given me.

As Christians, we have everything we need within our reach. Not wealth or social status, not perfect relationships or dream job.  But everything our soul needs is available right here, right now — in Jesus.

Read Psalm 23 and note the words that express our deepest needs today.

Rest; Strength;  Guidance; God’s presence; Protection; Comfort
Blessings; Goodness; Unfailing love; Living with Jesus forever

All of that and more is available to us when we choose to live life with Jesus, our Good Shepherd. God delights in giving His children all that they need. You are His child. Ask Him. He’s listening.

Next Generation Update

God is moving quickly! The meeting last Friday between Harvest Baptist Church and the party interested in purchasing its property was positive. That party consulted its governing body on Monday and confirmed on Tuesday of this week that the sale is favorable to both organizations. Harvest will contact a real estate attorney to write a contract offer to purchase the RD Mize Campus, the amount of necessary time for which is unknown as of now. The congregation will be updated as further developments occur. Please continue to keep this process in your prayers!

Raise the Roof Update

Yesterday (Aug. 17), Property Board Chair Louie Wilbers and Gary Flandermeyer met with the City of Blue Springs planning and other related city departments to discuss Timothy’s ideas about the storage building at Wyatt. They report this was a good meeting with favorable feedback about the project. Timothy’s next steps include submitting a site admin plan and permit application for their review. Preliminary renderings are included here, with more details available soon. Please keep this part of the Next Generation process in your prayers as well. Your contributions to fund this project are appreciated, payable to Timothy and designated as “Raise the Roof,” whether by check or on Timothy’s website (click on Give, then Fund). Back-to-School Prayer Gathering 

Sabbatical Update 

Timothy is blessed with retired pastors in our midst who will assist in several areas of ministry during Pastor John’s three-month sabbatical from Aug. 14 through Nov. 12. Pastors Lieb and Rod have graciously agreed to assist Pastor Ryan with preaching, worship leading, homebound and hospital visits, and funerals. Timothy’s elders are also available to assist as needed. Please continue to pray for all of Timothy’s servants. Timothy’s leadership thanks the congregation for serving and volunteering as you see a need.
Timothy thanks Jon Kraft who will generously volunteer his time to lead the 10 am Tuesday AM Bible Class in the Fellowship Hall, starting Sept. 5th.Topic will be a Life Light study about the 1st and 2nd Samuel, books of the Bible.

Volunteer Opportunity 

Timothy’s Care Ministry is seeking a caring, compassionate individual who has experienced the death of a family member or close friend to serve as a co-facilitator for our GriefShare ministry. GriefShare is a 13-week ministry meeting twice each year, spring and fall, on Thursdays from 6:30-8pm. This fall’s session begins on Sept. 21. All Timothy ladies and friends are invited to share Christ’s love by meeting new friends, reacquainting with “old” friends, and just having fun at several events planned during the next few months. Mark your calendars and plan to attend!

  • A Women’s Book Club meets monthly (except June, July, August & December) on the third Thursday, 6:30pm, at various locations. The upcoming Sept. 21st gathering will be at Novel Place, 1001 SW Highway 7 (just west of Price Chopper South), in a community room.   • Our annual prayer emphasis near the start of Advent will be “A Prayer Evening” as it was last year. Guest speaker will be Jennifer Huecker, who will share thoughts based on the books When God Winks and Holy Moments: A Handbook for the Rest of Your Life.” More details soon.

Celebrating a New School Year

The new school year is fast approaching! We praise God for all students, teachers, and thyeir families and pray all experience a blessed year.

Teacher Dedication Sunday will be THIS SUNDAY, August 20th, during the RD Mize service for all TLS teachers and all teachers everywhere. Thank you for supporting our students’ teachers!

ON Sunday, August 27th, during both services, students of all ages and grades are invited to participate in Timothy’s annual Backpack Blessing, so bring your backpacks and receive a small gift. In addition, after the Wyatt service, worshipers and their friends are invited outside to share a brief blessing and prayer over the second trailer and tours of both trailers, if desired. TLS students will be available as tour guides.

The Gather commission will provide a photo both in the lobby at each campus for families to take photos as the celebrate the start of a new school year. Bring your phones/cameras!
