As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: The Broom Bush’s Shadow

CREATIVE TENSION:   Have you ever wanted a broom bush? Not in your garden, but to just collapse under. After a particularly exciting experience, the prophet Elijah crashed and burned, collapsing under a broom bush and wanting everything to stop. That may sound familiar to us. We have days where we want our own broom bush, too. But, thankfully, God didn’t leave Elijah there. And He doesn’t leave us there either. Instead, He urges us on to be in His presence.

Tudy Dotson Turns 100

Thrivent Workshop for Families:
Parents, Kids and Money Matters

Are you looking for ways your kids can learn healthy money habits, other than your individual instruction and mentoring at home?  Thrivent will host a workshop on Thursday, Aug. 19, at 7pm at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 615 SE Todd George Pkwy, Lee’s Summit. You can reserve your spot by calling 816.894.5830 or visit connect.thrivent.com/james-yanez. If you register by Aug. 12, your child will receive a Thrivent Piggy Bank at the workshop!

The workshop is geared to provide tools for parents to help their kids learn about three important choices they can make with their money: share, save and spend.

  • Reflect on the values you want your children to learn.
  • Use the concept of stewardship to teach your kids how to take care of the resources God has entrusted to them.
  • Explore four tools to make teaching smart money habits easy and fun for everyone.

Feel free to stop by the Information Centers at each campus to pick up a Thrivent flyer about this workshop. Thanks!

Your Freedom is Worth It

“You laugh weird.”

I was ten years old, on the school bus, when a girl told me this. I don’t know if she meant the words to be mean, but the words sunk like a rock. For years I was self-conscious about the way I laughed. I wanted to laugh. As I sit next to my husband and share in his laughter over a silly movie, I enjoy the feeling of laughter. Sometimes it takes doing the very thing you swore you’d never do to feel freedom.

Jesus freed us a long time ago, when He died and took all of our sin onto His very body. But we don’t always live in the freedom He died — and conquered death — to give us. Sometimes, instead, we choose to believe the words people have spoken over us — allowing those words to form our identity, instead of choosing to believe who God says we are.

Whatever words someone spoke over you — seventeen years ago or maybe yesterday — don’t need to have power anymore. Your identity is formed by who God says you are — and you are made in His good image. Jesus has freed you. You are free.

FaithRoots Resumes This Weekend

The Sunday morning FaithRoots ministry resumes this Sunday, Aug. 8, at both campuses! Parents, the kids will be dismissed from the worship service during the offering and remain in FaithRoots until the services ends. Watch for details in Friday’s eNotes about specific locations to pick up your kids after worship. Please note:  Teachers will have child-sized masks available if you wish your children to wear them.

Discover the True Light —  Jesus

At some point, it confuses and distracts us. We face the absence of light. When we can’t see anyone or anything, we feel isolated and alone. Walking proves difficult because we can’t see the path that lies ahead. Although we’re usually safe, our imaginations run wild with the dangerous possibilities that surround us becoming very real.

We all lived in darkness at one point, the darkness of sin. Unable to see and believe in God, we lived with a constant sense of loneliness and separation from our Heavenly Father. Uncertain of where to walk or where to turn, we did things we would probably rather not admit.

As unpleasant as it is, we often prefer to stay in the darkness rather than enter the light. The light exposes who and what we are. We think darkness helps hide the mistakes we don’t want anybody to see. We think if people knew the truth about us, they would judge us. But Jesus tells us it is safe to confess our sins. He promises that He did not come condemn us for our sins, but to save us from them. God makes a bold promise, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”Heb. 8:12

Because Jesus took our punishment, we receive complete forgiveness when we expose our sin to the light—the true Light, Jesus. In fact, God can use our mistakes for good if we are willing to confess them. When people see God doing great things through imperfect people, He looks even greater.

If you are asking, “God, Are You There?” join us in the next Discovery Class-GodConnects and discover the foundations and promises of the true Light—Jesus! Our next class starts Wed., Sept. 8, 6:30-8pm, in the Fireplace Room (302) at RD Mize. Visit www.timothylutheran.com/discovery-class/ for more info.

Let’s Pray:
Lord of the Harvest, we pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit, You will bless the word that will be proclaimed in the approaching adult membership class—Discovery Class—as we help connect people to You. Open the hearts of the men and women who will soon be contacted that they may receive us graciously and be willing to attend the class. Lead us to be bold witnesses of Your love as we are blessed to transform lives through Christ. Amen.

Sharing the Love of Jesus, together,
Pastor Rod Lindemann

As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: “What Really Matters”

CREATIVE TENSION:   The people who sought out Jesus after the feeding of the 5,000 seemed to be doing it for the right reasons. We might even pat them on the back. After all, they were looking for Jesus! They wanted to be with Him! But they were motivated by the wrong reasons. They were looking for Him for another handout. Their priorities were all wrong. Jesus called them back to what really mattered: Him. Rather than offer them more bread, He offered them Himself, the Bread of Life

– Discovery Class –
Refer A Family Member or Friend

We all know someone who is lost and needs to hear the Good News of Jesus as our Savior. The first steps can be the most difficult. God calls each of us to, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Perhaps you know someone who needs to experience God’s love? Take a moment to pray about this person(s) and consider filling out a referral card. We have a team of people ready and willing to reach out and invite them to the upcoming Discovery Class. You can make the difference in a person’s life by helping someone take the first step in following God’s desire to save all.
Please pray and consider filling out the referral information at this link: www.TimothyLutheran.com/Discovery-Class/
Join me in prayer:
Holy Father, we pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit You will bless the Word that will be proclaimed in the approaching adult membership class starting on September 8th. In Your boundless love for the world, You sent Your only Son as Savior. Bless our efforts to reach out to the men and women in our community and give them willing hearts to hear Your Word. Amen.

COVID Update

Following recent CDC guidelines, Timothy’s staff and leadership recommend that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people wear masks while inside Timothy’s facilities. There will be masks available at both Information Centers for those who wish to pick one up. Thank you for your cooperation and please be safe.

Thank You, Otis Turner

Timothy wishes God’s blessings to Communication Services Otis Turner as he begins retirement today. His service to Timothy over the past 16 years has often gone unnoticed due a large amount of behind-the-scenes work to produce communication pieces, such as worship bulletins, funeral bulletins, power point slides for worship, computer issues, newsletters, bulk mailings, to name just a few. Thank you, Otis, and we pray your retirement adventures will be blessed. Pictured below is the Turner family, L-R: daughter Caroline, son Matthew, wife Pat, grandson Bennett, and Otis.

Next Generation Update

NEXT GEN
Members of the Construction Task Force and church leaders met with Mantel Teter Architects President David Evans and Project Manager Skyler Phelps earlier this week to review preliminary drawings and needs prepared by church leaders.  The architects will return on Aug. 17 to share site plan options for review. Please continue to keep the Next Generation process in your prayers

Respond in Grace: A Devotion

I could feel the anger rising. We were having an informal brainstorming session and sharing ideas as a group, but after I shared my idea, another immediately shot it down in a very unkind way. By God’s grace, though, I held my tongue. My mind was racing and, though the conversation was moving along, I tried to stop and pray, Holy Spirit, I am angry. What do I do?

Philippians 2:3-4 came to mind: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of others.” I began to think, What if this person is just saying what they think is best?

Because each of us has experienced hurt and trauma, it can be all too easy to overlay our past experiences onto present realities. We can often assume we know why people did what they did. We can’t control their words and actions, but we can challenge ourselves to gather all the information, have the conversations, and better understand what is motivating the other person.

Let’s ask God to help us not assume the worst of people. We can keep showing grace, even when others don’t show grace to us. Let’s value people, showing understanding, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll be able to connect with others in a way we didn’t think was possible.

2021 VBS Wrap-Up

What a fabulous ministry this year’s VBS was for all involved, even if for only three days! So much engagement by young and old to grow closer to Jesus’ love and strength to pull through all kinds of situations!

  • King Rodnae, Engineer Ryan, and Cabin Fever pumped up everyone’s energy level at openings and closings.
  • Bible Adventure was new this year which was interactive in large groups. The kids enjoyed a cinema experience which reflected their personal relationship with Jesus.
  • Snack time was simpler, allowing more time for outdoor games, including water fun.
  • Monetary donations for Resource Health (formerly Rachel House) totaled $727.50, an outstanding effort that would have certainly surpassed the $1,000 goal for the entire week.
  • Household items, personal hygiene items, & a few pantry items for Hillcrest Transitional Housing were boxed and crammed into a Ford Explorer with only room for the driver to deliver the goods.

We are nearing one week out from when we first learned that one of the VBS kiddos tested positive for COVID. Through it all, leaders and volunteers have been fantastic in getting everything accomplished related to winding down another year of VBS as well as keeping updated on the COVID situation. THANK YOU!

Timothy’s facilities were cleaned, disinfected and prepped each day after VBS and again after we learned about the positive COVID test, so please rest assured that sanitizing and other precautions are in place to protect our Timothy family.

As hard as it has been, decisions have also been made to cancel or postpone youth events for the rest of this current week at least, which provides another layer of protection. Next week’s events will be decided as that time draws closer, so watch for updates.

We also have continued care for the VBS families and volunteers by regularly keeping them updated. Each and every time we hear from a family about a positive COVID test, the kids and leaders in that group (those within 6’ for 15 minutes or more) have been confidentially notified. Families with individuals testing positive are also being contacted this week for prayer and to learn an update.

As a church, we are mandated reporters of COVID cases to Jackson County, and we are in communication with the health department to determine protocols.

Please join us as we continue to pray for those who have been impacted and as VBS taught us:  Jesus’ power is pulling us through this difficult time. Thank you!

Care Support

Timothy provides support for those coping with a loss, whether through death or a divorce. You are encouraged to participate in and spread the word to family and friends about GriefShare and DivorceCare. We know it hurts, and we want to help.

GriefShare begins a new series of 13 sessions on Thursday, Sept. 2, 6:30-8pm, in the Fireplace Room (302), RD Mize Campus. If you’ve lost someone close to you or know someone who has, please call us to find out more information about this weekly support group.

DivorceCare Beginning Monday, Sept. 13, 6:30-8pm in Room 102 at RD Mize, a weekly seminar and support group meets for those who are separated or divorced. If you know someone going through a divorce, make sure they know about DivorceCare. It might just be the best thing you could do to help.

As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: JESUS PULLS US THROUGH

CREATIVE TENSION: We often try to be “Little Engines That Could,” relying on our own strength and abilities to get through whatever life throws at us. But sometimes, our best isn’t enough and we may feel like we’re stuck. Thankfully, Jesus gives us the power we need to pull through the difficult times as long as we rely on His grace and love.

VBS A HUGE SUCCESS . . . Even if only 3 days!

What a tremendous week of growing closer to Jesus! Check out the collage of photos below and look for a total wrap-up of this ministry in next week’s eNotes. Thank you to all of the wonderful, willing volunteers, and a special thanks to the VBS Cabinet for its leadership in planning every year. The congregation and friends are invited to a VBS Celebration on Sunday, July 25. AVBS video during both services, but the kids will not perform. Thank you for sending your kids to Timothy’s VBS, and hope to see you all next year for another exciting week!

Timothy Continues to Sanitize and eMist

Timothy’s leadership wants the congregation to know that eMisting and sanitizing continue daily at both campuses. Everyone’s safety is very important. While masks are not mandated as of now, feel free to wear one and social distance. Thank you for your patience and respect for others.

GodConnects—Discovery Class

Everyone, at some point, asks this question: “God, if You are there, why don’t You show Yourself to me?” It can come at moments of sterile, academic reflection or in times of deep despair. In this confusing world where authority is so elusive, it seems like we cannot connect to God.

In truth, we can’t—but the good news is that God connects with us. Our adult instruction class tells this unique, unequaled story. Wherever you may find yourself, we will help you explore what the Bible says about this remarkably loving God, and how this love gives direction and meaning to your life today and forever.

This class is designed for those who are interested in learning or reviewing the foundations of the Christian faith. Attendance at the class may lead to membership in our church, but there are no obligations. Please visit www.timothylutheran.com/discovery-class/ for information about our next session.

Join us in prayer: Lord Jesus, bless Your people as we reach out to our families, friends, and community with Your Good News. We ask that You will bless the Word that will be proclaimed in the approaching adult membership class starting on Wednesday, September 8th. Gather the men and women You have chosen to hear Your saving Gospel. Do not let the evil one hinder them. Prepare this congregation to receive those You will gather around us. Amen!

Teacher Accepts Divine Call

Last Sunday, the Voters’ Assembly unanimously approved extending a divine call to Beckie Rathke to serve as a LCMS-rostered teacher at Timothy Lutheran School. We praise God that Beckie accepted that call this week, and we look forward to her joining the TLS staff. As the next school year approaches, we look forward to introducing all of the new TLS teachers to the congregation.

Next Generation Update

NEXT GEN
At its meeting on Monday, the Construction Task Force and church leaders reviewed three bids for Master Plan Services for the Wyatt expansion and found all of them to be acceptable. The group determined the best choice to be Mantel & Teter, the original designer of the Wyatt Campus. The next step is to negotiate a contract with M & T, followed by scheduling initial meetings with the project manager. Please continue to keep the Next Generation process in your prayers

Outreach Opportunity

The Lutheran Urban Mission Agency is conducting a drive to send kids (preschool thru high school, both boys & girls) back to school with new socks, undergarments, t-shirts/a-shirts (tank tops), shirts & pants. Timothy’s LWML will participate in this drive and appreciates any donations dropped off in the LUMA bins at both campuses from July 25 through August 22. Additionally, the LUMA food pantry currently needs red pasta sauce & white alfredo sauce which may also be left in the same bins. Contact Lois Domsch (lois.domsch@gmail.com) with questions. Thanks for your support!

How Do You Measure Up?  A Devotion

Sometimes, regardless of my age, when preparing for VBS I still feel as insecure as a teen on the first day of school. Stepping into the role of leader makes me uncomfortable with myself.

Like most of us, we are success-oriented and pride ourselves on exceeding expectations. But we constantly compare ourselves to others, we look at opportunities to succeed also as opportunities to fail, and unfortunately—although we may understand the unconditional nature of God’s love—we believe our value is tied to what we achieve. Here’s what the Bible says about that in Titus 3: 5-6: “he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior.”

My heart knows my identity is in Christ. However, sometimes I live like my identity is rooted in what I do or can produce. Thankfully, God’s definition of success and mine are very different. He reminds us that our value comes from WHOSE we are and God’s love is given, not earned. God’s love is bigger than our successes, our failures, our gifts, or our limitations. We may rank ourselves by our achievements or how we measure up compared to the rest of the world, but God loves us unconditionally based on the righteousness of His Son, Jesus Christ. So we can say yes to the challenges set before us, knowing we are fully loved no matter what.

VBS IS ROCKIN’ & ROLLIN’

Day one (yesterday) of the 2021 Rocky Railway: Jesus’ Power Pulls Us Through VBS was exciting and energizing, with 142 students and anticipating more today! Feel free to stop by RD Mize at 9am any morning this week to join the fun! You won’t want to miss King Rodnae and Cabin Fever as they pump up the kids for a morning of praise to Jesus! And make plans to attend the VBS Celebration Sunday at Wyatt this coming Sunday at 10-am!

Donations of items for Hillcrest Transitional Housing and cash for Resource Health (formerly Rachel House) are off to a great start. It seems the competition between girls and boys for donating the most cash to Resource Health has resulted in the girls ($95.18) out-distancing the boys ($13.57) so far, so we will monitor the race to the total goal of $1,000 as the week progresses. Collecting a total of $108.75 for Day One is super! Thank you!

Middle School and High School Swim Talks are back! High school youth meet Monday & Wednesday, 5:30-7pm. Middle school youth meet Tuesday & Thursday, 5:30-7pm. Check with Pastor Ryan (ryanh@timothylutheran.com) or Ryan Kuecker (kueckerryan@gmail.com) for locations. Bring a snack to combine with either the pizza or BBQ provided, and don’t forget to bring friends!

Worship Service Volunteers Needed

There is an increasing need for more volunteers to serve in current worship services as well as if additional services can resume.  If you can help in any of the following areas, please call the church office. The more available volunteers, the more “teams” can be developed to spread out the time commitment. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • Musicians
  • Sound techs
  • Ushers
  • Donuts & Coffee
  • Greeters

A Message from Rev. Dr. R. Lee Hagan
President, MO District

“For this upcoming academic year, 48 men and women from our state will receive educational scholarships from the Missouri District to help defray tuition costs at our colleges and seminaries. These beneficiaries were selected because they have declared their intention to prepare for church work vocations. Praise God for raising up this next generation of leaders!

The scholarships were all made possible because of strategic decisions and generosity that happened many years ago when donors established an endowment to aid students from Missouri. These donors were forward thinking—making plans and preparations for the spiritual care of generations they would never meet this side of Heaven. That type of planning is a true testament to their faith in our Lord . . . and worth some reflection.

The LCMS is currently experiencing a shortage of church workers—pastors, deaconesses, DCEs, and teachers. The good news is that together we can help support those who are preparing to serve our congregations and schools in the future. Encouraging men and women to enter church work vocations and alleviating the financial burden that comes with higher education are two strategic decisions that can be made now so that an impact will be felt later. It’s the very same thought process those generous donors had when establishing the student aid endowment years ago.

For this reason, the Missouri District is launching Tomorrow’s Teachers &Preachers—a campaign dedicated to building awareness of church work vocations and an effort to strengthen our scholarship endowment so that even more financial assistance can be provided to those students on the path to ministry. Today, I would like to invite your congregation to be involved in the effort.

Sunday, August 29, is the day we’re encouraging congregations to celebrate Tomorrow’s Teachers & Preachers by collecting an offering that will be added to the Missouri District Church Worker Student Aid Endowment. We invite everyone to remember current and future church workers in your prayers and thank God for the many ways He is and will be using these leaders to care for His flock. May God use these gifts for His glory.

This year we celebrate the 48 students who will one day be workers in the harvest field. By God’s grace, and with His guidance, we will take steps today so that the number of students entering church work will continue to rise. Thank you for your forward-thinking ways and caring for generations to come.

Peace in Christ,
Rev. Dr. R. Lee Hagan
President, Missouri District”

PLEASE NOTE:  Timothy will collect a free-will offering on Sunday, August 29, at both campuses in support of this initiative. You may also contribute prior to Aug. 29 by using an offering envelope & designating Tomorrow’s Teachers & Preachers on the “Other” line or donating online on the church , also choosing the “Other” category and specifying Tomorrow’s Teachers & Preachers. We praise God that Timothy support future church workers just as we did for our own recent church worker graduate, Jake Bellinghausen. Thank you!

As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: “Shepherds and Sheep”

CREATIVE TENSION:   Nobody likes being called a sheep. That term has come to be considered incredibly insulting, because it implies that a person lacks critical thinking skills or is easily duped into believing something false. And yet, as much as that term may rankle, it can be an accurate description of the way we behave. Like the people that the prophet Jeremiah described, we wind up following the wrong shepherds all the time, those who claim to have our best interests at heart but are really trying to bring us hurt and harm. But thankfully, God sent Jesus to be our Good Shepherd, who lays down His life for the sheep so that we can safely be a part of His flock.

VBS Is Here!

Seen Fully Right, in the Midst of It:  A Devotion

I can picture the paragraph in my seventh-grade yearbook. The message from my friend made a rounded square. After the expected, “I hope you have a great summer,” she wrote, “I knew you were cool the day you told so-and-so to shut up.”

I read it, feeling smug over being described as cool and regretful as I remembered the cost of my quick words. It would be easy to shrug this little incident off to the dark hole of junior high school years, but the thing is, I still remember it. Snippets of that memory after all this time: my friend’s face after the words came out of my mouth. Even at that age, I felt it deep down. It was the way I tried to move myself into a place of power and remove myself from being the friend I always had been.

The prophet Isaiah’s description of Jesus in Isaiah 53 both sobers me and gives me hope. Isaiah described Jesus as a tender shoot surrounded by hard ground and so unattractive that people would look away from him. He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. Isaiah 53:2

What I’ve needed most is a place where the One that was worshipped could look like Isaiah’s description and be the One we all bowed down to. What I’ve always needed to know is that there’s a place for someone who comes in last, for the ones who are passed over, for the one who is still struggling, for the girl who was mean in an attempt to prove herself strong. I see my imperfections—but find Jesus standing there, arms wide, reminding me that weakness is the place where we are all made strong.

I find Jesus in the mess of our family relationships, I find Him at the well of my need when I try to go it alone again, I find Him in the person I least expect:  my junior high school friend who later told me she had already forgiven me. I find Him, when I reach down deep, trying to get under the surface of my meanness, telling me that I am seen fully right in the midst of it and met with love.

VBS Excitement Continues to Build

Excitement is definitely building as VBS Week approaches!  Look for a transformed lobby at RD Mize when you arrive for worship this Sunday. It’s not too late to register kids in classes or to volunteer as a helper, so go to the church website NOW! Adopt-a-Student envelopes for the VBS ministry are available at the table in the lobbies. Thank you for your contributions of time, talents, and treasures for this vital ministry!

The VBS Family Kickoff is this Sunday, July 18, from 4-6pm in the Family Life Center and outdoors in parking lot and grassy areas. This overlaps with the Youth Shoe Collection Drive intentionally so you can tell your friends to stay after dropping off their donated shoes!

Indoor fun includes VBS registration, t-shirt pick-up, face painting, and balloon animals.  Outdoor fun includes purchasing food/snacks from food trucks (Ate 1 Six Bar-B-Que, Deez Nachos, and Rolling in the Dough KC), followed by a fire truck arriving at 5:30 to spray the kids before the “pastor splash” (so dress appropriately!). Kids are encouraged to bring their own water squirters. They will also enjoy GIANT slip & slides to add to the biggest “pastor splash” yet!

The Rocky Railway: Jesus’ Power Pulls Us Through VBS Week starts Monday morning at 8:45am, so plan on attending each day next week until noon.  Exciting music from Cabin Fever and other music leaders will reverberate throughout the sanctuary. Bible storytelling, crafts, and snacks/games will add to the celebration of growing in Jesus! Don’t miss out! Sign up now on the church website!

Middle and Senior High Youth will enjoy Swim Talks (swimming, snacks, & devotion) once again on Monday through Thursday evenings next week from 5:30-7pm at various members’ pools.  Contact Ryan Kuecker (kueckerryan@gmail.com) or Pastor Ryan (ryanh@timothylutheran.com) where to show up each night.  New this year:  either pizza or barbecue provided (with youth still bringing a snack to share, please)! Don’t miss it!  Bring your friends!

Urgent Need for Volunteers

Can you offer assistance on a team of volunteers to ensure that the Coffee & Donut ministry continues at RD Mize?  With several people/families volunteering, no one person/family would be responsible for every weekend.  Please contact the church office for details. Thank you!

If you have a servant heart to help with indoor light housekeeping/cleaning or outdoor weeding of flower beds at RD Mize, please contact the church office. Thanks!

On Sunday mornings, if you and/or your family can serve as greeters before and after services at both campuses, please contact Bob Logan for RD Mize (blogan1516@gmail.com) or Mary Taggart for Wyatt (octobermom810@gmail.com). Thanks!

Community Drop-Off for Shoes

Timothy is urged to invite their friends and neighbors to drop off new or gently worn shoes of all styles and sizes to the Youth Ministry Shoe Collection Drive on July 18, 25, and Aug. 1 from 5-6:30pm on the north side of the Family Life Center at RD Mize.

The shoes will be donated to people in need in third-world countries. In turn, Timothy’s youth group earns money for anticipated trips in 2021-2022.  The goal is to gather 2,500 pairs of shoes, so clean your closets and spread the word!

The youth welcome help from their parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, or anyone in sorting, collecting, and bagging the shoes. You can sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c044faea62aa2f58-tlcyouth.  Stop by the table in the lobbies this Sunday or next Sunday to pick up a flyer to distribute to family and friends. Shoe donations are also accepted at the tables before/after services at both campuses.

Hand Bell Choir

After two years of leading the Hand Bell Choir at Timothy, Ruth Sunderman is stepping down as director in order to take advantage of an opportunity to pursue a Master’s Degree out of state. We thank Ruth for her years of dedication and service to Timothy in many areas and wish her God’s blessings in her new endeavors.

If you are interested in leading the Hand Bell Choir (mostly youth but also several adults/parents), please contact the church office. Ruth has a full 2-3 octave choir in place, plus sheet music, gloves, etc. In short, all the new director needs is to show up! Thank you for considering to serve in this ministry!  Contact Miriam Lindemann (miriaml@timothylutheran.com) with questions.

Facility Reservations

As various areas of both campuses continue to open up, please remember that gatherings/functions of any and all Timothy ministries/activities/events or reservations for personal events need to be included and kept current on the church calendar, EVEN IF MEETING OFFSITE.  The church office and other employees often receive calls as to locations and times of various activities. If that info is not on the church calendar, and if the employees do not happen to personally know the information, it is challenging to answer callers’ questions. This information is also necessary to avoid scheduling conflicts for the various areas at each campus. Thank you very much!

As We Gather For Worship This Weekend

THEME: Marching Orders

Jesus wasn’t the only one who was on a mission during His earthly ministry. At various points, He sent out His disciples to spread the Good News that the kingdom of God was near. This mission meant that Jesus and His disciples couldn’t just hang out at home. They had to go! We are under similar marching orders. And while ours may not match up completely with the instructions that Jesus gave His disciples then, we can learn a lot about the urgency that drives us forward.

A Message from Pastor Bellinghausen

“To all the saints at Timothy,

Thank you so much for your support over these last four years and for the incredible outpouring of love you’ve given me during my Ordination. The gifts I received are wonderfully well-timed, considering the expenses of moving to New York and starting a new life there. Actually, you all have been so generous that I think I can afford to celebrate a little, too! I just wanted to send this little note to thank you for every gift left for me last Sunday, and everyone who has been a part of my family and my life here at Timothy. You all are the reason that I am looking forward to the ministry because I know that God works through even the smallest of words or gestures to touch hearts and to transform lives. Thank you all so much!

God Bless,
Pastor Jake Bellinghausen”

SPECIAL NOTE:  Timothy welcomes PASTOR Jake Bellinghausen as guest preacher this Sunday, July 4th, before he heads to Grace Lutheran Church in Vestal, New York, early next week. Please join your brothers and sisters in Christ on Sunday as we look forward to his message about “Marching Orders.” See you Sunday!

A Message from the Reed Family

“To Our Timothy Family: Thank you so much for supporting the Adam’s Army Blood Drive again this year. It means a great deal to all of us to be able to honor Adam’s memory in a way that also helps others. We appreciate all you do to keep the drive going! This year we collected 43 pints, which is especially important because of the current blood shortage in the KC area. This will undoubtedly be a blessing to others! With much love, Jeff and Mary Reed & family.”

Greeter Ministry Volunteers

The Sunday Morning Greeter Ministry is ready to officially resume! Is this an area in which you could serve? Could your entire family be available on Sundays that fit your schedule to greet worshippers as they arrive? Please contact Mary Taggart (octobermom810@gmail.com) to serve at Wyatt and/or Bob Logan (blogan1516@gmail.com) to serve at RD Mize. Thank you!

Successful Lutherans for Life Diaper Drive

Thank you, Timothy, for once again generously supporting the annual Lutherans for Life Diaper Drive and to LWML Elizabeth Circle for organizing and delivering the diapers to Blue Springs Impact Ministries. This year, Elizabeth Circle chair Kaye Gray dropped off a total of 1,366 diapers; 2,196 wipes; and 53 pull-ups for Impact Ministries to distribute to the community.  A tremendous blessing to many needing this help!

God Is the Hero: A Devotion

I used to keep a mental highlight reel of my worst offenses. Although I confessed those sins to God and asked for His forgiveness, I couldn’t seem to forgive myself. Did I believe my sins were so enormous and unique that they were beyond His ability to forgive? In spite of the magnitude of God’s mercy and of the sins I know He’d forgiven, why did I act like He couldn’t handle mine?  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

We see divine forgiveness in the story of King David, who took what wasn’t his in Bathsheba and then orchestrated her husband’s death by sending him to the front of the fiercest battle. David did not recognize the scope of his sin until it was exposed to him by the prophet Nathan. David repented and then followed the Lord the rest of his days, serving and honoring Him. David’s story comforts me. We can dwell on our sins, but surely God prefers we take Jesus’s advice to “go, and sin no more” (John 8:11). God’s grace and capacity for forgiveness are beyond comprehension. When we give in to guilt and focus too much on our role as the villain in our own life story, we forget that God is the hero who has redeemed us.

Adam’s Army Blood Drive Follow-Up

Thank you, Timothy, for once again supporting the Adam’s Army Annual Blood Drive! A total of 43 usable pints (including four first-time donors—awesome!) was donated which was greatly appreciated by the Community Blood Center, as shared yesterday in an email message to Mary Reed and Nancy Nowiszewski:  “I want to thank you for all your continued support by hosting a drive in memory of Adam. We are privileged to honor his life by receiving donations to save other lives in our community. We had an amazing turnout during these different times, and EVERY unit counts as we are in a deficit right now. It is dedicated blood drives like yours that have helped us get through this pandemic, so for that, we are forever grateful. Thank you, Dawn Eblen (Donor Recruitment Account Manager)

New Volunteer Work Day Opportunity

Children’s Ministry Supplies

Even though it’s still summer, the days & weeks are flying by! Starting another school year is right around the corner, so it won’t be long before local stores advertise school supplies sales.

Timothy’s in-person FaithRoots and CrossWalk classes are gearing up to resume in early August, and Children’s Ministry staff and volunteers appreciate donations. While donations of all types of supplies are appreciated, the following are especially helpful:  glue sticks, markers, crayons, mini-staplers, staples, rubber bands, sanitizers, and 8 oz. bottled water.

Starting this Sunday, July 4, and running through Sunday, Aug. 8, you can drop off donations in bins clearly marked Children’s Ministry Supplies at both campuses. It will all be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

Are you looking for a new home for some of your shoes? Timothy’s Youth Ministry has connected with a fundraiser organization to collect new or gently used (free of holes, rips, tears, & excessive wear) shoes of all sizes and shapes. Proceeds will benefit Timothy’s Youth Group trips for 2021-2022.

Collection period will be for 2 months (July 11-Sept. 12) in lobbies of both campuses. Stop by the tables at both campuses on July 11, 18, & 25 to learn more details, drop off shoes, and to volunteer (both students & adults) to help with a community drop-off opportunity at Timothy on July 18, 25, & Aug. 1 (see below). After July 25, you can drop off shoes in the bins at both campuses (no tables set up).

A Community Shoe Drive will occur on July 18, 25, & Aug. 1 from  5-6:30pm at RD Mize, so spread the word among your family, friends, neighbors, etc about this opportunity. Youth and youth leaders will collect bag of shoes from the donors’ cars. Your support is greatly appreciated!
