As we continue to talk about love, we expand our focus to how we love one another. Because God loves us, we love Him. And more than that, we love each other. God’s love for us prompts us to love one another. We remember that God’s love is to flow from us to others, with no boundaries or borders or exceptions.
A Love Beyond the Pink and Red Hearts: A Devotion
I am writing this on Valentine’s Day and looking forward to an evening with my husband. Valentine’s Day can stir up so many memories, both good and bad, hopeful and disappointing, meaningful and forgettable. In reality, no human can fill the love gap in our hearts. All of us are broken, with imperfections, flaws, and shortcomings. But the One who can truly fill us, the One who has always wanted us, is God.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! 1 John 3:1
Friends, we belong to Love Himself. Delight and rejoice today in the truth that we are fully, unconditionally, and eternally loved by a man—by a God—who gave His life for us. What we have longed for all along, we already have in Him.
Timothy’s Hillcrest Apartment Resident Update
Residents April and her son Hunter are ready to move and so appreciate the opportunity to have lived in the Timothy-sponsored apartment at Hillcrest. Her successful transition to a home of her own will occur within a few days once the inspection of her new Section 8 home is complete.
Timothy members Fran & Kay Lieb recently provided a $250 Thrivent Action Team donation to help April stock her cabinets and drawers in her own home. Pictured are some of the items bought when the Liebs and April went shopping. Thank you, Fran and Kay, for showing the love of Jesus to April and Hunter!
We praise God for Timothy’s commitment to helping families “get back on their feet” by sponsoring a Hillcrest Transitional Housing apartment. If you are interested in joining Timothy’s Hillcrest Team, please contact Dan Sbisa at dan.sbisa@gmail.com.
LWML Ash Wednesday Ham Dinner, 5-7pm, Family Life Center, RD Mize; proceeds to mites (10%), National Youth Gathering fundraising (45%), and 2022 Live Well Community Fair (45%)
Lenten Non-Dinner Free-Will Offering opportunities:
March 9: Timmy Boys for CrossWalk program in Children’s Ministry
March 16: Give Commission for 2022 Live Well Community Fair
March 23: Pairs & Spares for National Youth Gathering fundraising
March 30: School Ministry for TLS Scholarship Fund
The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. During this season of sorrowful reflection, it is particularly appropriate that we ponder God’s Word as we consider all that our Lord Jesus does for us in his life, suffering, death, and burial.
Our current life of social distancing, masks, and isolation has been challenging in numerous ways. It is an ever-present reminder that we live in a fallen state with God. Distance from others reminds us of the importance of relationship and community. We are sustained by the faithful presence of God for us even as we journey through challenging paths.
So that we might grow together, we invite you to join us this Lent to read and reflect as we take the LENT JOURNEY. A daily reading devotional reflection will be posted. As you reflect, we pray that you draw nearer to God by connecting with Him, sustaining and strengthening in faith while walking with Jesus. You may also share comments and thoughts as we take the Lent Journey in fellowship with one another.
If you would like to receive a daily email containing the devotion, you can subscribe to Timothy’s email list dedicated solely to these Lenten devotions at www.timothylutheran.com/godconnect-devotions
Blessings as we prepare for the season of Lent.
Pastor Rod Lindemann
National Youth Gathering Pi Day
Thank you, Timothy, for your generous support of Timothy’s youth on their way to Houston in July for the 2022 National Youth Gathering. Last week’s BBQ ribs fundraiser sold 120 slabs of yummy ribs for a profit of approximately $1,500. Thank you!
As announced in worship services last Sunday, another opportunity, Adopt-a-NYG, has started. It’s simple: make a donation to Timothy earmarked as “Adopt-a-NYG” before Pi day (that’s March 14). For every $1,000 in donations, one of the youth attending the NYG will get hit in the face with a whipped cream pie. If initial goal ($15,000) reaches $20,000, special “pie targets” will join the pie-in-the-face line-up. The pie-throwing event will be videotaped and shared on Timothy’s Facebook page and elsewhere. Thank you for your generosity in supporting all NYG fundraisers!
Next Generation Update
The Phase 1 program approved at the Jan. 16 Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting is moving forward with plans to Transform Lives through Christ through expansion of ministries and facilities. Leadership is monitoring the budget stabilizing process and will provide specific data at the end of the first quarter. In the meantime, we praise God that general contributions for January 2022 were $20,000 greater than general contributions for January 2021. Thank you!
The February sermon series reminds us that God wants our all for His glory. We serve God by serving each other with our time, talents, and treasures as well as our whole hearts, minds, soul, and bodies. With all that we are and have, we live out our faith and live out our love for Him. Thank you to all who volunteer their time and talents in Timothy’s ministries and those who have already made contributions to the 2022 First Fruits goal of $200,000. We look forward to First Fruits Sunday on Feb. 27th. Thank you!
Since the Feb. 6 Special Voters’ Assembly meeting, leaders have solicited and received bids for the approved mobile units and civil engineering services. Upon review of the bids, contracts for both will be awarded within a few days. The Wyatt Campus acreage is generating interest as senior adult housing.
At its monthly meeting this week, the Executive Board launched the Raise the (Storage) Roof opportunity in accordance with the Phase 1 Program steps and dependency factors in moving forward, as approved at the Jan. 16 Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting. Timothy praises God for a very generous donor’s commitment to fund the trailer project, and the board is currently researching options for constructing the storage outbuilding by June for much-needed storage not currently available at Wyatt and necessary before Voters are asked to approve the sale of the RD Mize Campus. The board appreciates the congregation’s prayerful and financial support. Donors can contribute to Raise the Roof on the church website or placing in offering plate with envelopes clearly marked “Raise the Roof.” Leadership looks forward to providing frequent updates regarding all of the Next Generation details.
These are busy, exciting times at Timothy as we discern God’s will for moving forward in ways to transform more lives through Christ. Thank you for your support!
Girls in grades 3-5 (can also include energetic 2nd graders)

Please keep your submission between 200-250 words.
We continue our look at God’s love this month by reminding ourselves that we are called on to love the Lord. This is done, not because we’re trying to win God’s heart or to form a relationship with Him, but because He has already brought us into a relationship with Him through Christ. So He calls us to respond to His love with love of our own. We love God and remember what He’s done for us, loving Him before all other things.
We Can All Bring Soup: A Devotion
What is it about Soup? Chopping ingredients, simmering them on the stove, and then sharing the soup with someone you love. For years, I have been the person who has had grand intentions. I want to be that person who will do whatever they need, whenever they need it. But more times than I’d like to remember, my grand plans turned into good intentions that never saw reality.
Sometimes, when life is at its hardest, we can’t manage a grandiose gesture. But most of the time, we can all bring soup. Of course, your soup may look different than mine. For some, it’s fixing a computer, cleaning a house, or raking leaves. In James 2:15-17, we are not asked to take on all of another’s burden but to meet the needs we see in front of us.
If a brother or sister is poorly clothes and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also, faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
We all have something we can give that will not necessarily fix someone else’s life situation but will still yield valuable results. When we present a humble offering, we give something practical and immediate. It’s just a simple gesture that goes a long way to bless someone and ease their struggle.
Timothy Cares for You
It is a blessing to greet more and more of our Timothy family and friends in worship services again. Timothy’s staff and leadership cannot stress enough the importance of noting your worship attendance to help connect with members and meet their spiritual and fellowship needs.
Starting this Sunday, Feb. 13, worshippers can “check in” to worship using the Timothy Church app on their phones! There will be a brief video during announcements at each campus to explain this quick & easy feature, and it is also posted on the church website for your convenience.
When you arrive at church, go to the Timothy app on your phone and choose “Giving.” Then click on the “Special” tab where you will see a picture and the words “Click Here to Check In”. After clicking on that message, you will see “Attendee 1.” First and last names are required, but the email field is optional. Below that is another button to “Add Another Attendee” which can be used as many times as necessary to check in your family attending that service. Below that you will also see an option to “Donate” where you can easily contribute to Timothy’s various ministries.
Worshippers may also continue to complete the attendance cards/slips as always and use the offering envelopes to place in offering plate. Prayer requests may also be written on the attendance cards/slips as always and placed in offering plate. Please use either method of registering your attendance each Sunday you are in worship. Thank you!
Please contact church office (816.228.5300) if you need assistance installing the church app on your phone.
You can also now access Timothy’s membership directory on the app. Click on “People.” If you are a member of any of Timothy’s “groups,” that will pop up. Click on “Directory” to locate the alphabetized church membership directory. To exit the directory or any of the other app features, click on the 4-square image in upper right corner.

God Is Love
February holds Valentine’s Day right in the middle of it, so it’s a good time for us to turn our minds to love. People are already thinking about it, so it’s good for us to remember what the source and standard for love is. It’s not found in a Hollywood romcom. It’s not found in a Hallmark card. Instead, the source and standard is God, who loves us with an impossible, incredible love, one that prompted Jesus’ death and resurrection. We love because God is love.
You Are Beautiful: A Devotion
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. I Peter 3:4
I was in that place where women go to get their cut and colored, to cover the roots and dye the grays. A woman came and sat in the empty chair next to me. She mumbled, “Her hair is so nice. And just look at her over there—all you ladies are so beautiful, just beautiful.”
Here were these women gathered together, all bearing bare faces and bare beauty. It’s where they sit, vulnerable, at the hands of another. It’s where they expose the true texture of their hair—all the thickness and the thinning out, all the bald spots and every ringlet that’s been called bad. I smiled looking around at all the other women. In my mind, I heard: Everyone here has beautiful hair. Everyone here is just beautiful . . .
God looks at each one of us and sees and loves everything about us—the width of our hips, the height of our body, the texture of our hair. God cannot help but stand and point and shout and tell us that we are beautiful. We do not have to primp and perfect ourselves to be accepted and loved by God. We can come and sit, with all our color and culture, all our hair texture and taste in style that makes us who we are. Without looking around to compare, without looking around to compete, we can come and be. Just beautiful.
Scout Sunday
Timothy’s Cub Pack 175 and Scout Troop 175 will be recognized at the 10am Wyatt service THIS SUNDAY, Feb. 6. We thank Timothy members Tary Krahenbuhl, Scott & Carter Honig, and Gary & Dalton Bodenhausen for participating in the worship service.
Lenten Season Updates
There will be 2 worship services (with Holy Communion) at RD Mize (4pm & 6:30pm) on Ash Wednesday, March 2nd. Timothy’s LWML will serve the traditional Ham Dinner in the Family Life Center between the services.
The Wednesday Lenten services on March 9, 16, 23, 30, and April 6 will occur at 5:30pm at RD Mize (one service only). There will be no in-person Lenten Dinners on those dates. Instead, the Lenten Non-Dinner Free-Will Offering format will be offered again, patterning this success after last year’s efforts. Each week, a different ministry group at Timothy will “host” these “non-dinners” by greeting worshippers and accepting donations for the group’s designated ministry each at a table in the RD Mize lobby.
Please contact Diane Mayfield (dianem@timothylutheran.com) if your ministry would like to reserve a table on March 23, 30, or April 6 for the congregation to support your specified fund with free-will offerings. The table can also be available for worshippers on the Sunday following the Wednesday Lenten service. The “Timmy Boys” will host the free-will offering on March 9, and the GIVE Commission will host the free-will offering on March 16, with donations earmarked for expenses regarding the 2022 Live Well Community Event in June.

Christ was all things to the Apostle Paul, and Paul shares his confession and prayer with the church at Colossae. This is a fitting theme for National Lutheran Schools Week because Lutheran schools praise and share Christ in the sanctuary, classroom, playground, athletic court, stage, faculty lounge, office, and in every place where God’s children gather. That’s good for us to remember, too. We are called to see Christ in all things, in every part of our lives.
“2022 Is a Second Chance”
Something about a second chance. It’s almost overwhelming how grateful I am for a second (or third or twenty-third or I’ve-lost-count) chance. And I’m not just talking about a day to out a calendar or to-do list. Those things are great, but the second chances that fill me with wonder and move me to on-my-knees gratitude are the ones we get from God Himself.
Our God is a God of second chances. He’s the One who gave do-overs to Adam and Eve, Moses, David and so many more. He’s the One who urges us to give one another second chances by forgiving one another, and most importantly, He’s the One who took the punishment for our sins so we can spend eternity with Him—the ultimate second chance!
When we are afraid that we’ve missed our chance, that we’ve messed up too much, that we’ve waited too long, know that God will never give up. He is here to give us that second chance and Hi9s mercies are never-ending.
Yet I call this to mind, and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations: 3:21-23
Appreciative Mission Agencies
Thank you, Timothy, for so generously supporting Lutheran Urban Mission Agency (LUMA) and Lutheran Urban Mission Agency Auxiliary (LUMAA). Recently, LUMA acknowledged our faithful gifts totaling $3,399.08 in 2021 which supported the agency’s grants to five churches (Timothy being one of them for the 2021 Live Well Community Event) to engage their parish communities, served 1,179 people at their food pantry, supplied 19,600 diapers and 2,800 pull-ups through the Happy Bottoms program, supplied undergarments, socks & t-shirts to 42 children, and the list goes on.
Timothy collected over 1,000 school supply items, $190 in monetary donations, and 26 baby receiving blankets this month for the LUMAA in-gathering. When there’s a need, Timothy responds, always has, always will. Thank you!
Timothy Supports Haiti
Pastor Rod reports that Pastor Chad Starfeldt from Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Greeville, WI, sends the following message: “Thank you sooo much for all the support of Haiti and First Lutheran Church in Jacmel. As you may know, it is very bad in Haiti right now. The prices are rising like crazy for people who are already poor. There are gangs and kidnappings. We praise the Lord that the 17 missionaries got out of captivity from the gangs safely. Your support continues to help Pastor Markey and First Lutheran in Jacmel finish their sanctuary and support their ministry.

What kind of things are worth your time, your energy, and your efforts? These are the things we often say are important. Today we tune into one of the most important things for God, this thing called “life.” From Genesis through Revelation life is something our Lord commits an abundance of His time, energy, and effort to. Which means life IS special, every single life from embryo to elderly, whether healthy or hurting, whether from a surprised pregnancy or facing a terminal diagnoses. So let’s talk LIFE because it is important!
“Life Sunday: God Chose You”
Choice is a divine gift to humankind. That means choice isn’t a right. And death isn’t a decision. It’s everyone’s inevitable destiny. You can’t “choice” your way out of death. We won’t keep our own deaths from happening by making anyone else’s death happen. Thanks be to God Jesus displaces freedom of choice and replaces it with freedom from choice. The choice we need is not a choice we make but choice we are. What saves, what gives life, is not choosing but being chosen. The choice we can’t make, the one that matters most, is the one we don’t have to. God chose you, and that changes everything.
No matter who has left you alone, the Almighty Maker chose you. No matter what makes you afraid, the Lord God chose you. No matter why you feel ashamed, the Heavenly Father chose you. God chose you into existence. Your body proves it. You are a privilege. God chose you into forgiveness. Jesus’ body proclaims it. He is a gift. God chose you into making a difference. Every neighbor portrays it. They ar your invitation. You’re not an accident or an afterthought, even in sufferings or difficulties. You’re special. No human life is a joke or a mistake, not even in surprise pregnancies or terminal diagnoses. Each one’s precious, from fertilization to forever. None of us are hand-me-down or half-hearted, not embryos, not impaired persons, not elderly ones. We’re all priceless, whatever our ages, abilities, and appearances. God chose you to embody and to enact the sanctity of human lives. Christians advocate this kind of choice.
Join Pastor Rod for worship this Sunday to hear God’s Word on abortion and assisted suicide. God Chose You . . . “You do not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go an bear fruit.” John 15:16
“Take Your Time and Take It Slow”
As many of you may have noticed, I sprained my ankle and have been not so patiently dealing with it. The frustration of going up stairs, walking down a hallway or simply getting ready for the day had forced me to slow down and take my time. I had to reinvent how I moved about in work and play.
This is true for any of us walking through a new season. In a way, we must reinvent ourselves as we maneuver lives that look different from before. We must resist the urge to rush towards panic and refuse to move through this season alone. In the quiet of the morning or the still of the evening or the calm before the storm of the carpool line, we can take time to sit in the presence of Jesus. Consider a Scripture that reflects God’s promises: This is what the Lord says — he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters . . .Isaiah 43:16-17 (NIV)
There’s no obstacle change brings that God does not bring a way through. There’s no change we encounter that God is not master over. There’s no season we experience that He doesn’t provide us with endurance. Take your time with Him and take it slow.

Next Generation Update
A quorum of 58 members registered attendance at the Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting last Sunday. The 2022 Development Plan, including a PowerPoint presentation and accompanying printed handout, was shared with the assembly. Printed copies of both are available at the Information Centers at both campuses and on the church website. The congregation is urged to review the information and email Diane Mayfield (dianem@timothylutheran.com) by Feb. 1 with comments and questions. The congregation was reminded that a stabilized budget throughout 2022 is imperative in moving forward with much of the expansion plan.
The congregation will convene again for a Special Voters’ Assembly Meeting on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 11:30am to vote on two motions from the Executive Board regarding expansion at the Wyatt Campus:
“The Executive Board moves to lease three modular trailers and install necessary infrastructure for Wyatt classroom space, youth activities, and meeting/office space for 2022-2023 (with first trailer installed in 2022, second trailer installed in 2023, third trailer as needed) at an approximate cost of $300,000 plus monthly operating expenses.”
SPECIAL NOTE:Following the meeting, a generous donor met with church leadership to commit to funding the trailer capital costs, infrastructure support costs, and annual rental of trailers for five years (2022-2027).
“The Executive Board moves to construct a yard storage building at Wyatt at an approximate cost of $300,000.”
SPECIAL NOTE:This fundraising project, called “Raise-the-Roof,” will house outdoor equipment now moved back and forth between both campuses. More details soon.
The assembly approved the following resolution: “BE IT RESOLVED that the congregation of Timothy Lutheran Church empowers the Executive Board to accept a real estate offer of no less than $3.00 per square foot for the sale of 6.60 Wyatt acreage along MO Highway 7. SPECIAL NOTE: The March 2020 market summary valued the current value of this property between $3.00 and $3.50 per square foot.

Even though Christmas was just a few weeks ago, we might still have gifts on the brain. Maybe we’re still enjoying the presents we found under the tree. Maybe we’re making plans to exchange them for something better. But it’s good for us to remember that God gives us gifts, ones that come from the Spirit, that enable us to serve and empower that service. These special gifts are given to each of us so that we can serve God by serving each other. So as we recognize our gifts, may God help our love for others to overflow so we can be a blessing to the people around us.
“That Time the Gospel Showed Up: A Devotion”
It was right there, with fluorescent lights shining over the Christmas music playing through the speakers. I could hear two voices. A niece and an aunt? A daughter and her mother? I’ll never forget what the older woman firmly—and yet kindly—said. “Now, remember, this is a gift. All you have to do is receive it.”
Tears prick my eyes even now, writing such a simple sentence. It’s more than the generosity of the words or the thoughtful reminder. It’s the Gospel, right there in the front of the store. Perhaps God said the same to us, as heaven touched earth, and the glory of God was a baby placed in a manger as angels sang in the skies above.
We’re in between Christmas and Easter now, and it won’t be long before we turn our attention to the reminder of Lent and the joy of celebrating a stone that was rolled away as death died once and for all. But here, as a new year begins to unfold, I’m sticking with the truth of a simple sentence that has the Gospel written all over it. Now, remember, this is a gift. All you have to do is receive it.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Romans 1: 16
A SONG WAS HEARD!!
We just finished Christmas. I didn’t get to worship in person due to COVID, but the songs and music played through my computer. The feeling of the gift of song which was sung by our choirs, our children and our soloists came through loud and clear. The psalmist said it best, Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Psalm 150: 6.
THANKS TO EVERYONE for bringing Praise to the Lord of creation, the Lord of salvation. Little Dresses for Africa
Several LWML ladies gathered on Jan. 8th to learn how to sew “Little Dresses for Africa.” Using gently-used pillow cases and a few sewing notions, the ladies made little dresses for girls in remote villages of Africa. Sewn by volunteers around the world, these little dresses give hope to little girls and remind them that they are worthy. As relationships form, projects are completed through clean water, education and community.
Thanks to Timothy LWML members, pictured left to right, Susan Ready (standing), Kim Duffy, Shirrell Routon, Lois Domsch, and Sandy Galvin (standing) for sharing their talents in this project on Jan. 8th. Since there are no current plans to organize group sewing sessions for this ministry, anyone is welcome to participate individually in your own homes. Contact Susan Ready (sready2@comcast.net or 816.229.7688)) if you are interested.

When we own something, we have a desire to label it as ours. Maybe this is done with markers on the bottom of a doll’s foot. Or it could be done with a label maker. Or by putting up signs to make sure our ownership is clear. But we mark our territory and declare that something is ours. God does the same thing for us, calling us by name, saying that we belong to Him. And the way He marks us and makes us His is through the miracle of water and the Word, Holy Baptism.
“The Goodness of Our Creative Callings: A Devotion”
In bearing God’s image, humans share God’s creative impulse. When God made the world, He put His creativity on display, breathing to life a colorful diversity in all things. Every plant, creature, and human is a testament to God, our Creator and King, who delights in us for whom we are and the ways we reflect His image in the world. After each day of creation in Genesis 1, we read that God surveyed all that He created and declared, “It is good.” God created for the purpose of beauty, goodness, and truth, and we can, too. In our skills and abilities and talents, God has planted the seeds for us to co-create good and beautiful things as a form of worship to God and for His glory.
Through our crafted creations, whether they be in word, object, or aesthetic, we have the ability to further God’s goodness in the world. This is how we create for both our own joy and the joy of the world. This year, let’s return back to our first creative loves. May we awaken to curiosity and delight, wonder and imagination, and join God in the cultivation of goodness, beauty, and truth as a way of worship to Him.
Psalm 8: 1-2 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

Have you ever lost sight of something precious? If so, you probably can imagine the fear, anxiety, and even confusion when Joseph and Mary lost the Savior of the world. This Sunday, we are going to take a look at this unique text that takes place during Jesus’ childhood, and we are going to wrestle with the question, “Do we lose sight of Jesus, too?”

CREATIVE TENSION (December 24): Christmas is a time when people give gifts to each other. Sometimes those gifts are trivial, but sometimes, they can change a person’s life for the better. That is what God does for us. He sends us His love in the person of Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem. And this love changes us and changes the world. It’s a gift that comes with a call, a call to us to love each other the way God first loves us.
“The Contradiction”
CREATIVE TENSION (December 25): In the Christmas epistle from Hebrews, we see this powerful picture of who Jesus is: greater than the angels, the one who speaks to us in these last days. It’s a contradiction, though, to hear these words on Christmas, when we remember how Jesus became one of us, taking on frail human flesh and becoming a baby. He does this to lift us up, fallen creatures that we are, and to make us God’s children. Christmas is a miracle of contradictions.
“Pink Tie Sunday – The Loss of a Child”
CREATIVE TENSION (December 26): “Lord, if you had been here…” asked Mary at the loss of her brother. Perhaps we ask the same question at the loss of a child. God’s Word tells us that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. The mystery of faith in a child is beyond our comprehension. Jesus says, “The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” We put our trust in a merciful loving God. It is by Jesus’ wounds our spiritual illness is healed, and we are given new life, even to the unborn. It is a Resurrection promise in Jesus to new life with no more pain, suffering or death.
What’s the One Thing That Matters Most to You Now? A Devotion
I watch the saltwater taffy machine, stretching, squishing, and twisting as the color reaches the end of the candy. Suddenly, I feel like I’m being stretched and compressed as I think through my list of these last few days before Christmas. My anxiety immediately skyrockets, and I dive into getting things done.
The Apostle Paul said, “I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (Philippians 3: 13-14) It can seem to us like Paul did a lot of things in his lifetime, but he really just did one thing in many different ways.
How would you fill in the blank in Paul’s declaration, “I focus on this one thing . . .”? You might answer with words about loving well, serving faithfully, living with excellence, or practicing resilience.
The holidays can be stressful. Pause and take a deep breath, then whisper a prayer and answer this question, “What is the one thing I most want to pursue in this season?”

Pink Tie Sunday: December 26
Join us in PINK THIS SUNDAY, as we remember the little ones who passed from miscarriages, stillborn births, and abortion. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” Jeremiah 1:5
“Lord, if you had been there . . .” asked Mary at the loss of her brother. Perhaps we ask the same question at the loss of a child. God’s Word tells us that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. The mystery of faith in a child is beyond our comprehension. Jesus says, “The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die4.” We put our trust in a merciful, loving God.
It was by Jesus’ wounds that our spiritual illness was healed, and we are all given new life, even to the unborn. It is a Resurrection promise in Jesus to new life with no more pain, suffering, or death.
Join us as remember and praise God for the gift of life. Pull out your pink clothing—ties, scarves, shirts, sweaters, jewelry, etc—to wear to church this Sunday, Dec. 26th!

CREATIVE TENSION: Mary very well could have been filled with doubts after the angel told her that she would give birth to a Son. But rather than wallow in the doubt, rather than allow that to poison her faith, she checked out the promise. She went to Elizabeth to see if what the angel said was true. And her faith was rewarded with the truth. She had found an antidote for her doubt.
When the Lies Are Loud, Rehearse Truth’s Song:
A Devotion
This sentiment orbits around me: You are disposable! You don’t matter! You are insignificant! The noise of my inner fear can be deafening. Yes, I know that God sees me and values me. I don’t struggle with that at all. My strife has been with humans devaluing me. I can tell myself that it shouldn’t matter what people think of me, that I should solely be concerned with how God sees me and knows me, but that doesn’t reconcile the countless times that in someone else’s decision-making process, I’ve been overlooked and felt like an afterthought or a pawn.
When we feel vulnerable, invisible, or forgotten, remember that God not only sees us, but comes alongside us and cares for us. Matt. 6:26 reminds us, Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
When lies try to deplete us, there is One who sees us, to remind us of our visibility, our value, and our significance. We need to come back to the truth. We matter. We are seen. We are valued. Rehearse truth’s song. Turn up the volume and allow it to refresh you.

Thank you to Timothy’s combined choir members for the outstanding production of the musical We All Bow Down last Sunday at the Wyatt 10am service! Timothy Lutheran School Christmas Program
Timothy’s third Advent service on Dec. 15 was provided by all students at TLS. Over 400 hundred family members and friends gathered in the Wyatt Auditorium to hear the students proclaim Jesus’ birth as the light of world! Thanks to the students and staff for performing Unto Us and urging all of us to “Go Tell It on the Mountain” that Jesus is Lord over all and the best Christmas gift ever!
Pink Tie Sunday: December 26
Join us in PINK on Sunday, Dec. 26th, as we remember the little ones who passed from miscarriages, stillborn births, and abortion. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” Jeremiah 1: 5
“Lord, if you had been there . . . “ asked Mary at the loss of her brother. Perhaps we ask the same question at the loss of a child. God’s Word tells us that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. The mystery of faith in a child is beyond our comprehension. Jesus says, “The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” We put our trust in a merciful, loving God.
It was by Jesus’ wounds that our spiritual illness was healed, and we are all given new life, even to the unborn. It is a Resurrection promise in Jesus to new life with no more pain, suffering, or death.
Join us as we remember and praise God for the gift of life.
Pull out your pink clothing—ties, scarves, shirts, sweaters, etc—to wear to church on December 26th!
Ongoing Support for Hillcrest Transitional Housing
Timothy recently received a letter of appreciation from Hillcrest for its ongoing support, both in volunteer opportunities and financial gifts. For more than 40 years, Hillcrest has helped families get back on their feet by providing homeless individuals, families, and youth with the life skills and tools needed to live self-sufficient lives and to leave behind the cycle of homelessness forever. The current resident in the apartment sponsored by Timothy continues to do well!
You may remember that about 18 months ago a fire destroyed the apartment building next to the one housing Timothy’s sponsored apartment. Recently, Hillcrest hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new building. This photo shows one of the new rooms in one of the apartments.
