As We Gather for Worship This Weekend
A Comforting Confession

Throughout time, the people of God have throughout time made a confession of their faith as to whom God is.  Perhaps no one articulated it quite as well as Peter when he said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” While this bold confession may be one we share, the question is, “What does that really mean and why does that even matter?” Let’s let Jesus unpack that for us this Sunday in worship..

Kind Words

Years ago, I trained for CPR on a practice dummy. It involved putting my mouth to its mouth and breathing into the lungs to raise the chest.  It was a lot harder than I thought. But it was important to know how to use my mouth to bring life.

As Christians, it is important to check in regularly with ourselves regarding how we use our mouths. Kindness is demonstrated through good words. With every breath, we have the opportunity to say words that destroy or words that bring life.

Nobody is perfect. But with how we talk to others, we can show them that the goodness of God is worth discovering and enjoying. We can allow them to have a taste of God’s kindness by how kind we are to them.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

Kindness is contagious and begins with words. We are not alone; the Holy Spirit will speak through us if we simply breathe words of kindness sharing God’s grace and love.

Raise the Roof Update

On Aug.17, Property Board Chair Louie Wilbers and Gary Flandermeyer met with the City of Blue Springs planning and other related city departments to discuss Timothy’s ideas about the storage building at Wyatt. They report this was a good meeting with favorable feedback about the project. Timothy’s next steps include submitting a site admin plan and permit application for their review. Preliminary renderings are included here, with more details available soon. Please keep this part of the Next Generation process in your prayers. Your contributions to fund this project are appreciated, payable to Timothy and designated as “Raise the Roof,” whether by check or on Timothy’s website (click on Give, then Fund). Thank you very much!

TOGETHER- JOINING JESUS

On September 10th, we will start a new sermon series following the five questions of Joining Jesus. To stay intentional and consistent with a mission lifestyle, we also need a little help from our friends during the week. While we support each other by doing “Take-10” during family meals, in existing church groups, or with Jesus-following friends in our neighborhoods, workplaces, or schools, we also invite you to get together and intentionally experience Take-10 together from Tuesday Sept.12 through Tuesday, Oct. 17..

In our gatherings on these Tuesday evenings, we will together discuss the Five Questions for reflection and conversation about how life on mission with Jesus is going and where it can lead the conversations, encouragement, insight, accountability, and practice we need to further develop our skills for Joining Jesus in everyday life.

Mark your calendars and plan to gather TOGETHER for this six-week opportunity as we encourage one another. You can contact Pastor Rod with any questions at RodL@TimothyLutheran.com
