“Open Our Eyes!”

CREATIVE TENSION: Bartimaeus had just one wish: to see. When he heard that Jesus was approaching, he called out to Him to ask for healing. We, too, need that healing touch because far too often, we go through the world blind to the realities of what is going on around us. So, like Bartimaeus, we pray for Jesus to have mercy on us and open our eyes, too.

The Value of the Land in the Graveyard 

Some years ago, I read a story in a book called Die Empty by Todd Henry. In the book, the author recalls a story in which his friend asked this question at a meeting: “What do you think is the most valuable land in the world?” Several people made their guesses: Manhattan. The gold mines of South Africa. The oil fields of the Middle East. But the friend said that all those answers were wrong. He said that the most valuable land in the world is the graveyard. Because in the graveyard are buried all the unwritten novels, businesses that never launched, unreconciled relationships, and all of the other things that people thought, “I’ll get around to that tomorrow.”

There’s a brand-new week right around the corner, and some of us have a pocketful of dreams and plans, but something might try to stop us from taking the next step. Maybe it’s fear of failure, possible rejection, time, or some other uncertainty. As a church we feel that too, So many questions, what’s coming next, are we ready…. But what if we each decided that this was the week we to take one small step toward progress? It could be a way of saying, “This is important. Our dreams are important. God’s call is still alive and well at Timothy.”

You may think you’re too old or too young, that what you have to give is insignificant, that people aren’t listening, and there are no blueprints for how to build what we feel led to build. But God is working, and the author of Hebrews has some encouragement for us, by offering a way to move forward with perseverance.
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

These verses were a rousing call to early Christians to persevere. The call relates to our faith, of course, but it’s also a reminder to keep moving forward with the hopes and dreams that God has placed inside of us. It’s time to be a part of that dream again.

Timothy Celebrates Senior Adult Ministry


Timothy’s Senior Adult Ministry will be celebrated at both campuses this weekend! Take a minute to thank our seniors for their commitment to Timothy for many years as well as the many ways they continue to serve today and will continue to serve in the future. Timothy’s rich heritage is due in large part to these faithful servants, and we thank God for each and every one of them.

Timothy’s youth ministry is thanking Timothy’s senior adults this Sunday at both campuses by providing cupcakes and homemade posters with heartfelt messages, so all seniors are encouraged to stop by the table after the service to enjoy the accolades and yummy cupcakes.

Younger kids (Pre-K-1st grade) learned about the Three Men in the Fiery Furnace.
Take Home Point: Trust God’s power. Cool!
Read the Event: The Three Men in the Fiery Furnace from an early reading Bible or read/summarize the event from Daniel 3.
Prayer Power:  Think of times when God has used His power to help your child or family. Say a prayer together, thanking God for His powerful help.

Older kids (2nd-5th grades) learned about Good King Hezekiah.
Take Home Point:  Who’s on your side? We’re on God’s side.
Read the Event: Read from a Bible storybook about Hezekiah in 2 Chron. 29:1-31 or 2 Chron. 29:3-6, 35-36, or 2 Chron. 32: 20-22.
Prayer Power:  Thank God that He has chosen us and given His Son, Jesus. Thank God that He gives us victory as we face battles. Ask Him to help remind us that we are on His side.

New Opportunity:  Donor Match Program


Check out this exciting opportunity! Timothy’s church management system is offering a Donor Match Program to encourage new recurring donors.

Every first gift between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, 2021, from a new recurring donor will be matched up to a maximum of $1,000.  To be eligible for the matching gift, more than one installment must be set up. Timothy will receive the matching gift in the first quarter of 2022.

Once the giving module is released on the new church app, this will be very easy to set up and link to your checking account or debit/credit card. Please note that the giving module on the new church app will not be released before Nov. 1. Thank you for considering this easy, generous opportunity!

Hillcrest Transitional Housing Update


Timothy’s apartment has new residents! Dan Sbisa reports that April and her two-year-old son, Hunter, moved into the apartment this past Sunday afternoon. They had been living in a motel recently, and Hillcrest will be a huge help to them.

Thank you to Daryl & Becky Fowler for cleaning and stocking the apartment with groceries prior to Sunday. They were also able to meet April and Hunter who are very excited for this opportunity.

Thank you, Timothy, for your support of this ministry. We pray that April and Hunter will “transform their lives through Christ.”

Intentional, Missional Community

We’ve all been feeling it, haven’t we? The need for connection and community?

This pandemic has shown many of us how God created us to be in relationship with others. But it has been a hard task for the past year-and-a-half.

Timothy’s GO Commission wants to help reduce those barriers that keep us from being together and reaching out into the community.

On November 7th, you’ll be asked to complete a survey (the simple, fun kind!). Do any of these sound like a good time to you?

Greetings from Pastor Bellinghausen

To all the Saints at Timothy,

It has been just over three months since I left you all to serve the Church in Vestal, NY. And by the grace of God, I have already had the pleasure of baptizing two infants and welcoming multiple people into the congregation. While there have certainly been hard moments as well, God has greatly blessed me in this place, and I trust that He is working all things for the good of those who love Him.

You all are often on my heart and in my prayers. As we face various challenges and opportunities, my time at the seminary and, of course, my experiences with you, have shaped my thoughts and words. I am very hopeful for my time at Grace Lutheran Church and for the work that God will accomplish in this place. I want to thank you all again for all the kindness and support that you’ve shown me throughout the years.

I am well settled here and getting to know the community more every day. And I think fondly of you all. I hope to visit you next summer. While there are many things that make a trip home difficult, I think we all know that my mother won’t let me wait any longer than that. May God bless you all as we look forward to Reformation Day and the start of Advent.
